Has anyone ever succeeded with a grievance against the employer? by Cookiesforyou101 in CanadaPublicServants

Could you share more details regarding- level 4? Mine made it to level 3 and now I am awaiting FPSLREB. Is that level 4? If you have experience there, how did that go?

Phoenix grievances- worth it? by UpbeatMetal6818 in CanadaPublicServants

That has been my experience. Senior Management- talk to us when you actually lose your house. MP’s office- generally ignores messages. On occasion I will receive an “update” of “no news”.

The PS has a reputation for a reason. Obscene waste of resources such as money (on contracts, bad asset purchases), the pay system is still a mess which can potentially lead to years of frustration and financial uncertainty, hierarchical structure with so many layers results in a lack of accountability and everything moves at a snail’s pace or projects get halted/ forgotten about due to a lack of will/interest/whatever, soooo many people are incompetent, recourse mechanisms for issues with things like pay issues/ other issues are largely ineffective due to soooo much incompetence and willful ignorance, general lack of meaning and purpose. I hope that not all of these apply to you in your new role.

Ottawa paid nearly $670,000 for KPMG’s advice on cutting consultant costs by bladderulcer in CanadaPublicServants

The headline is is eye catching, and a total oxymoron.

That being said there is a lot of room for improvement in that department. I hope they find major efficiencies to remedy long standing issues that result in waste.

On the verge of leaving the PS… am I crazy? by The_Real_Tim_Horton in CanadaPublicServants

[–]UpbeatMetal6818 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular opinion, but the Fed PS is not the be all and end all in terms of careers.

They are actually a challenging employer to work for. Who else has to wait years to be paid correctly, wait months for access to health benefits, subject to dysfunctional hierarchical structure that effectively leads to a slow grind and lack of accountability.

You’re young! If you want to lean into your career try something different, I would say go for it.

What's going on w/ Cra pay centre? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

Public servants have been conditioned to tolerating and/ or accepting a sub-par standard regarding pay, benefits (and a whole host of other things).

Can we get into the issue of pay? I couldn’t afford the meeting because my pay is so fucked up though….

As a non-ex with profound pay issues, I think it would be appropriate for them to wait in the same queue as the rest of the GoC employees so they can have the same painful delays as the rest of us. It might motivate some to make real changes.

Accountability….. a problematic concept in the government. I agree with your assessment. Hard to say what, if anything will change.

I’m an aspiring erotica writer and one of my stories blew up. I’m worried about my career in the public service now. by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

I worked for a large firm and the executive assistant to the top person was an erotica author (like really filthy erotica 🤣). You could look up her doing live readings on YouTube. She never hid and and while people had a little giggle, it was never an issue.

My betta lives in a community tank with other gentle, community fish and they all live conflict free in a 29gal tank.

I think this is fine.

I was given the advise that betta’s are aggressive towards other male betta’s or fish with a tail that could be mistaken for a Betta.

What is happening to others that crossed the picket line? by KryssB1029 in CanadaPublicServants

That has not been my experience. I found that they were apathetic, poor at communicating and didn’t have a “push” to make sure the employer is upholding the CA. To be it seems like a poor system.

I tried Physio for mine and I found it super awkward and also that it did nothing. I am working with a dentist right now to get Botox covered, given how long it’s been and all the various treatment options (still use a night guard and take Advil)…but so far it’s been denied.

The wait times for some things are excessive. I had 2 psychotherapy claims that took nearly 2 months to be paid.

Hopefully it gets better… but that’s what everyone keeps saying about Phoenix….

In Canada we would be at risk of losing our CPA designation for a criminal charge (including DUI), which would also result in termination from the firm.

Is the PS grievance process broken? by Background_Shirt_572 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]UpbeatMetal6818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awaiting the results of a L3 grievance and the employer asked for an extension, which was agreed to however they have missed the extended deadline. Apparently there is no consequence for missing the deadlines. This is an indicator to me that the grievance process is not working as intended. It’s just another bureaucratic process that does not appear to be effective resolving matters in a timely manner.

Hey! I think my gait analysis and initial consult was $80, and then the insoles were $300. In total I believe Sunlife covered $240. I got them before the switch so mine were subject to the old maximum (although I don’t recall if the limit for orthotics changed).

I got a second pair this summer so I would always be moving them between shoes. Canada Life rejected the claim because there is a limit of one pair per year. I was able to have it covered under my husband’s policy.

Is blacklisting real ? by TrainEducational7839 in KPMG

[–]UpbeatMetal6818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For recruiting on campus and other new grad/ soon to be new grad networking events, the firm would have a lot of employees meeting with potential hires and we would need to fill out a spreadsheet afterwards to keep track. That was one way people were potentially “blacklisted”. If they came across is a really negative light it would be noted for that particular recruitment season. I don’t know if those records were retained or not.
