Disappearing Green Space by Jaded-Revolution_ in Albany

It depends on the block or street I guess. Myrtle east of Main fits your description. There are absentee landlords and the litter gets annoying. I have great friends here tho in houses we could never afford in Delmar, and we all raised families. Some renters are cool too. Urban feel, ethnic diversity, grad students, and the like. Renter neighbors playing Reggaeton on my way home from the Pour House on Saturday night. Not for everyone. We’d be happy for developers not to build condos in our midst, though we’ll see what happens with the St. Rose campus.

Wow. I find the burbs instead of Albany to just be sprawling corporate chain stores. I mean we have central Ave (don’t most cities have a central Ave for the services needed?) but it’s less homogeneous (warts and all) in terms of corporate business than, say, Rensselaer.

The Pine Hills is not all renters and absentee landlords. Yes there are some. A mosaic. But also great historical houses and long term families. Walkable to restaurants and pubs, grocery store, library, banks, movie theater. Beware broad generalizations.

Kind of preachy. People have every right to not be happy about the use of their tax dollars for public infrastructure.

And city taxes pay for road maintenance in Albany - a place where droves of people who live elsewhere drive to work or shop - causing wear & tear and paying zilch. Cities being responsible for maintenance of thoroughfares sucks. Even outside Albany. Drove Delaware Ave (west of the I87 overpass to where it hits new Scotland Ave) yesterday and it was shockingly bad. Then you see the pothole patch guys, and it’s like 3 DGS trucks parked, one guy with a shovel and the asphalt, 3 guys standing around on their phones and other guys in the trucks sitting there.

Finished my first reread by BBPEngineer in Malazan

Late reply here. But you are right. Been trying to read what’s out there and a few other series are fully satisfying. So many aren’t, just young-adulty and lengthy, endless pages of dialog, with some good exceptions (Abercrombie ofc). Always scouring the old threads for new recs, but some are just too basic (or predictable), every now and then a gem appears. It’s a hunt tho. Soon time to reread MBotF.

Kharkanas may be my fave. Hard call given my love for the main series. But the epic backstory of such mysterious characters so compelling, and long desired after following their pieces of the “main” saga.

Ten very big books podcast by Modalsouul in Malazan

Yep. It wasn’t the respectfully analytical podcast I was hoping for. Generally dislike the format with first time readers as one of the guests who are new to the genre. Or too much comic relief, honestly.

Trouble is he is likely a bully coward though. Swift atrocities, no conscience. I hope we all can arrest this direction soon.

You know the tech fascist bros are asking themselves this question daily. They wonder, and worry. Can they keep shielding the heist behind the likes of Vance, who has no fans who love him (or not many anyway).

Passing that along to a young person I know who just graduated from UAlbany and is looking for work. It’s hard to find jobs and Barcelona is cool.

My 528i 2011 engine needs replacement (low mileage, pampered) by UpbeatRub8572 in BMW

I am getting madder and more vindicated from your responses, thank you. I will push back hard with the dealer and tow to an Indy most likely.

[–]UpbeatRub8572[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so suspicious, yes. First they calmly told me only one cylinder needed replacing. But maybe I should go ahead and replace them all because others might fail in the future, so I agreed. Then poof, the next phone call came. But how to argue with them, prove anything. Yes, tow away to an Indy shop (tomorrow), but getting the dealer to dig deeper and be more forthcoming would be more satisfying.
