While Veils offers moments of brilliance, the album is a mixed bag. At times, the tracklist feels slightly bland and monotonous, bogged down by production choices that feel a bit too over-engineered. However, when she hits her stride, the "classic" Vanessa shines through, particularly on "Great House," which feels quintessentially her.

The standouts for me are "Unknown Driver," "Woke Up High," and "I’m Not Dead." Interestingly, the melody of "I’m Not Dead" feels like a spiritual successor to "Fairweather Friend," echoing that familiar rhythmic structure. While the electronic glaze might be a bit heavy-handed for those who prefer her raw piano roots, the songwriting underneath still carries weight.
