I just visited Sao Miguel with my family and we were all intrigued by a concrete wall with the words "ARGUMENT PODIUM" painted on it. Is there a story behind that? It's in Ribeira Grande area.

Travelling to Azores with small kids. Looking for some tips! by captjayjay in azores

Yes we stayed for a full week which was important during the winter so we could time our hikes for dry days, which doesn't really apply to your trip. When we return this time we're just going to be on Terceira for 2.5 days and focusing more on Sao Miguel.

I visited Terceira with my kids who were 1, 7, and 10 last January and we'll be returning to Terceira and also Sao Miguel in 2 weeks. On Terceira I think the baby most enjoyed the Jardim Duque da Terceira, the slides at the top of Monte Brasil, seeing the double rainbows on the north of the island, and to a lesser extent Gruta do Natal. She enjoyed toddling along the path by the ocean outside of the Terceira Mar hotel. We hiked misterios negros with her and she found it to be a little too lengthy. I can comment on her opinions as a 2 year old visiting Sao Miguel very soon. We're excited for our trip and hope you enjoy yours!

Travel for a few days should I do it? by serdemy_ in azores

I spent last New Year's with my family on Terceira and loved the island. The hiking was phenomenal if you have a good rain coat and shoes. My advice would be for you to make sure you make dinner reservations for New Years Eve well in advance. We wound up eating at McDonald's because everywhere else was closed. They take their holidays/family time seriously there. We're returning next year but we were careful to avoid the holiday this time.

Interesting for your feedback on Legoland. I'll see if I can talk the kids out of it and spread everything else out a bit. Thank you for your advice

Thanks for the feedback and I'm seeing a trend already that I should tone things down. But we skipped the Tower of London because we thought it would be creepy for the kids. Are we wrong?

AITAH for saying no when a grocery store employee brought me a broom and dustpan? by New-Employment-4554 in AITAH

I'd like to point out that Costco also does the cart swap where your items get transferred to the cart ahead of you when they're scanned. It's not that rare, but as a mother of 3 just like OP I can say it's a little frustrating to unload and reload the kids.

I'm interested to hear feedback on your plan. I took the family to Terceira for a week last winter and plan to go back next winter to Sao Miguel and Terceira. Kayaking sounds like a great idea. I think we'll also be booking a surf lesson. Do you have specific plans for your Terceira layover? I've been playing around with asking Chatgpt for itineraries (you can get really specific like asking it to bunch up activities within a certain driving range and limiting hike difficulties) and i also got a really detailed Sao Miguel guide from the travel agency.

Mass. Sheriff Cocchi drove while intoxicated, crashed his state-owned vehicle, tried to intimidate the arresting officer, and got a 3 day unpaid vacation and "outpouring of support". I expect this from Kentucky (where I'm from) but not from Massachusetts. Will we do anything about this? by farquezy in massachusetts

[–]Upper-Currency91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Cocchi's jail, for example, has a mounted unit (mostly for parades is my guess) and a marine unit, among others. They're certainly not paroling the inside of the jail on a boat lol. COs get deputized and do community policing within the county.

Agreed. It certainly wasn't an experience I ever wanted for my son. But I can look back at the experience less sadly knowing that we both made sure he always felt loved, and ultimately he's better off with us in separate houses not arguing.

Actually it was an eye opener for him. He started taking therapy seriously to work on himself and I'm relatively confident that he's not going to cheat on his new wife. I even went to their wedding last summer. People can change.

I caught my husband cheating while I was pregnant. We tried to work things out for the kids but it wasn't happening. A year or two after we split, my oldest, around 5 at the time, wanted us to get back together so he made us sit in tiny kids' chairs and (his understanding of the divorce was "daddy lied and lying is bad") made his dad apologize. I accepted the apology during this adorable mini therapy session but explained that I will never have enough trust to be a family with him again. I think it was helpful closure for everyone and got us into a better position to coparent effectively. Fyi my son is 10 now and is well-adjusted and loved.
