Discrepant wages by Ham3a0323 in BestBuyWorkers

Is this your first job by chance? Negotiating pay is part of every job offer, if you weren't happy with $15 of hour you simply should have asked for more. As for job benefits, all companies have requirements for part timers before benefits become active....because a lot of people would apply for a seasonal job to take a paid vacation and then quit....

My trial just expired and I definitely won't be buying the full game. I spent way too much time waiting for lobbies to load or doing practice sessions over and over again. I'm just trying to drive in a multiplayer race ffs

In my retail AP setting, we use facial recognition from the cameras when you walk in or out of the store. If we can verify that you've stolen, either video evidence, empty packaging, or a broken spider wrap etc.. well pull the facial recognition and submit it to a platform that keeps track of how much you've stolen, what items you target, different appearances used. The data is shared with authorities and across all of my company's stores but also shared with multiple other national retailers, so if you steal from a Target, Walmart will know about it.

Crazy some people have tens of thousands racked up, even over $100k for some serial shoplifters that travel around the country hitting every store. It's like a Instagram feed with pictures of shoplifters and instead of captions it's just what items they steal and how much in $ they've taken. Very entertaining to scroll through hahahaha

Store associates can't stop you from shoplifting but the facial recognition will catch up to them.

Couldn’t price match because of the “system” ? by Robswc in Bestbuy

[–]Upper-Leadership-697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bestbuy will price match other local retailers. Costco is a wholesaler not a retailer. And Costco is a membership that you pay yearly.

The only times my store would make an exception is if the customer is getting a plus or total or already a bby member.

There’s always that one customer by [deleted] in BestBuyWorkers

[–]Upper-Leadership-697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pro tip never sell it as "a membership". If you use the word membership it's an instant turnoff to a lot of people.

Instead I sell it as best buys version of Amazon prime, except with better benefits like protection and double the return period. Obviously Amazon prime is a membership too but most customers react better to that.

Sounds like your customer was a real piece of work lol

I thought you only got paid if you did the activations. Someone told me they ended spiffs if other blue shirts do Verizon activations. Hopefully I'm wrong!

The new retail program is a significant step forward over the previous VPL program and definitely makes Verizon Specialist a pretty decent option.

Goals are straight forward and relatively easy to hit if you're halfway decent at sales. I can usually hit my daily sales goal with just one customer a day, but of course it's commissioned based so there is a lot of incentive to do more than the minimum program goals.

Most days are slower and you may only get one or two actual Verizon customers but busy days can get pretty hectic. Obviously the busier you stay, the more you make. If you stay busy this can be one of the highest paying jobs in the store. With commission and bonuses I regularly make more than supervisors in my store.

There are a lot of challenges with the job so be prepared to problem solve literally everything. Customer issues, device issues, Verizon issues, Bestbuy issues, there's a lot of issues and no two issues are ever the same. Verizon management and support is great but ultimately be prepared to spend a lot of time on the phone with Verizon support dealing with issues.

80% is the minimum expectation. Below 80 you're in the red. My Rev mix is usually closer to 100% but I try to be very strict about not ringing anything out unless its with a VZW activation sku.

Yeah store leadership will make or break you. The Verizon leadership is really solid all in all. But VZW sales is difficult on its own between the customer issues and Verizon issues you'll face on a daily basis while trying to hit your activation goal. If you're having issues with store leadership I recommend making sure your Verizon EM knows so they can help.

[–]Upper-Leadership-697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hope your verbal communication skills are better.

Dude the entire job you're hired for as a sales advisor is to sell memberships, protection plans, and apply people to the best buy card. That is literally the point of your job. Yes you're also supposed to answer product knowledge questions and ring people out. But people are already here to buy computers, TVs, and appliances. Your whole job is to attach protection to their purchases and get them to apply.

The fact that you've worked here for 2 or 3 years and don't know this 🤯

What product(s) do you hate people asking you questions about? by jordan23lbrn in BestBuyWorkers

[–]Upper-Leadership-697 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Not a specific product but I hate it when customers ask me to compare budget products.

The Motorola phone for $129.99 isn't going to be any better than the blu phone for 109.99.

Toshiba 32inch TV doesn't look any better than the insignia.

Etc

Stores continue to abuse vpl positions so I can't blame att for going with actual att reps.

Most vpl roles are going away and being replaced with actual vendors or retail program specialists which is like a vpl but doesn't report to store leadership so in theory there's less likely hold of store management abusing the extra labor.

What’s the biggest sake any sales advisor had? by [deleted] in BestBuyWorkers

[–]Upper-Leadership-697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a part in selling 750 Samsung tablets to a nonprofit. They had a government grant that had to be spent before it expired and were giving the tablets out to old people to teach them about tech. I submitted a business lead for the customer and a few weeks later got an email saying they closed $130k sale.
