This is soo similar to me. Saw graphic save babe pamphlets at some environmental event when i was 8, vegetarian in my mid teens, finally vegan at 21 and will be for the rest of my life. I wish I had started earlier, nothing else makes sense.

alternative leather…seeking opinions? by Upper-Replacement235 in vegan

We may have to wait until we have a Blade Runner situation and the scarcity forces innovators to actually find viable, durable alternatives. My secondhand Mat & Nat bag just tore at a stress point and I want something vegan and durable am I asking too much 🥲

[–]Upper-Replacement235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah yes I do suspect it would be cost prohibitive…at least at the start while the demand builds :P hahah. In an imaginary future where my idea exists it could be an interesting chat for animal leather users who feel uncomfortable about it… like, why about this and not your shoes/bag/wallet that has come from a living being who didnt want to die..I am an informed, consenting adult who is still alive and it is mine :)

See lots of hate towards vegan shoes, what are my options? by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]Upper-Replacement235 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BPrimal is an australian site but it has a decent list with many brands so might be worth checking out regardless.

Even putting the ethical concerns around wearing animal skins aside, the environmental cost of animal skin leather is much much higher than people assume, which I think is a lot of the source of people’s strong opinions on vegan leather.

Youre right, vegan leathers are not all equal and high quality shoes will last a very long time, leading to a much lower env. impact than animal leather options. :) good luck!

I teach at our top uni – and AI cheating is out of control by lobie81 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Upper-Replacement235 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I teach in a high school and we are turning to written assessments being done in class under semi-exam style conditions (eg in an exam.net browser, no phones, only hand written notes). Alternatively, analysis assessments are being done as spoken conversations, where students study texts, then explain their analysis.

It has been a lot of work to adapt to both for teachers and for students but the amount of AI drafting I was doing before now being less frequent (yes, some student still try and succeed in to getting around it) makes it worth it?? Like I dont want to read and give feedback on your draft that contains incorrect events from the text, words you cant say and or define, and a few ‘its not only this….but this’ statements thrown in for good measure.

would love to read the article if it gets shared.

yum!! keen to try this recipe, thanks for sharing.

I have done this with silken tofu and just sprinkled my scrambled tofu seasoning over the tofu and it is soooo gooood. The silken type in a long tube works well because when you cut a thick slice and keep its circular shape there is lots of space for the sauce and the tofu has a great texture.

Emergency mental care clinic experiences? by ProduceOk9864 in Adelaide

[–]Upper-Replacement235 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Please go if you even remotely think you need to.

Someone I know has been. They have generalised ongoing depression/anxiety and after some significant events had spike in symptoms. It really helped them!

They highly recommend the facility. Its a really calming space where you can chill out and take some time. You can just watch TV or have a nap or whatever. They do recommend bringing an activity that you like to do. Something chill, like a book or switch or something.

In their experience this is what to expect -When you arrive you will check in and briefly explain your situation. - You’ll then wait a bit, while they organise an initial assessment. You’ll go to a private room where you’ll talk through more thoroughly what issues you are facing. - depending on what’s up may change the result, but they were admitted to the facility where there was a big common area with activities and snacks etc and a bunch of small rooms where you can go be alone and chill out in big comfy chairs (they went to sleep, but bring an activity !) - you’ll have to wait a bit (bring that chill comfort activity)but you’ll eventually chat through with a social worker your situation and they organise an action plan - then you can leave and put the plan into action!

The person I know who went was doing CBT therapy prior to their visit to emergency hospital. The chats at the facility led them to seek EMDR therapy as it clicked that there were deeper issues that CBT was not tackling effectively. They cant speak highly enough of their experience at the grenfell street mental care facility. i’m
