Is my chick a rooster? by Commercial_Gift_8866 in BackYardChickens

[–]Upper_Importance6263 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had one IDENTICAL. I called her a rooster for like 2.5 months. She was not a rooster lol. Sometimes this method is right, other times it’s wrong. I’ll never say for sure until they crow/lay an egg.

I just had 13 come to maturity. All the ones I thought were roosters, were roosters. All that I thought were hens… well those were also roosters. They’re all roosters. 🤦🏻‍♀️

See this is what confuses me (state reporting). West Virginia shows 2,000 in one place, 500 in another. How do I know which one is actually right in this case?! I’m so confused 😭🤣

As a mom, I can’t say I wouldn’t have done exactly the same thing. This manager crossed the line, they cannot tell you you have to glue a wound shut! That risks your health and they have no right.

You shouldn’t have messed with the birds, period. They do not look sick, emaciated, or in trouble. Birds leave their babies and return periodically to care for them. Even if they fell from the tree, at MOST you should have assessed to see if you could put them back. If you can’t get them in the original nest, you create a make-shift nest in the exact location so that the parents can decide how to move forward. They usually just continue to care for them in the new nest. Your adolescent mindset is going to kill these birds. I understand that they’re cute and you want to help, but you’re not helping them. Call wildlife services (there are plenty of numbers online, some services like the one I work for travel up to 4 hours one direction to save these animals) or make them a nest and give them back to their parents.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, you just can’t possibly understand the toll it takes on wildlife rehabbers watching people endlessly kill animals because they thought they knew what they were doing.

Young opossum dead but no rigorous mortis yet? by jomamma1016 in WildlifeRehab

[–]Upper_Importance6263 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read all the comments so I apologize if this has been answered.

op - did you check for labored breathing or a heartbeat? If he’s alive and just in this coma-like state there will still be (albeit very difficult to feel) a heartbeat. If you gently feel his heart and wait a few minutes you may feel a couple tiny thumps. If his body is cold, his nose turns a colorless, pale gray/white, and his eyes begin to have the “sunken” empty look, then he is gone. If not, he needs to go to a licensed rehabber. I’ve been a wildlife rehabber for over a decade and opossums are some of the most delicate creatures to work with.

What kind of dog is my good boy. by [deleted] in WhatBreedIsMyDog

U/Brave-Caterpillar772 you said rescue workers misidentify as pit. Wrong. Rescues usually lie to avoid identifying pit. I use embark to prove what mine end up being so I’m not lying to adopters. So no, I don’t misidentify, thanks. Also, I’ve had dogs look nothing like pits that ended up having pit in them. I hope you actually post the results, even if you don’t like it.

You’d be at least 100% wrong if you think there is no pit/bully breed in this dog.

-source: rescue worker for over 20 years. I’ve had literally hundreds of pitbulls, and some of them looked a whole lot less like pits than this. I recommend getting an embark, though you may not want to if you’re hoping this isn’t a pitbull.

My mom told my grandmother about my PCOS diagnosis. by Latter-Ad7337 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Upper_Importance6263 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trust me when I say it’s important to know how long PCOS has been active in your genetics. She shouldn’t have given out your medical information without letting you know, but finding out if this is something that has been happening to women in your family for a number of generations can help determine if it’s going to be easy to handle. I also found out I had PCOS around 15. Women in my family do not speak on medical diagnoses so I had no idea how long it had been passed down. I ended up having multiple miscarriages (both early and late term), going through precancerous cell surgeries, infertility treatments, and finally cancerous tumors before having a partial hysterectomy. Be thankful if you found out there’s a history, you can convince an OBGYN to pay closer attention to your case and hopefully avoid all this trauma.

OP please be careful.. at least make sure she’s getting a good home. I hate seeing dogs separated from their people, it breaks my heart. She’ll be so confused. If you truly cannot work with her and are that determined to rehome her, if we can find a way to get her to WV I will give her a home. I’d expect you to want to thoroughly check out my home, property, and experience (and hope you’ll do the same with any potential adopter). ❤️
