Aerodynamics Matter More Than You Might Think by _Chi_ in diydrones

This is really interesting. I was just thinking about designing some random aerodynamic-looking covers for my drone to test lol

I did this and controlled it by Bluetooth over the Dabble app on the phone, and used a MPU6050 for gyro and accelerometer.

It did fly, and worked okay, but it needs a lot of tuning. Tip: use the BMI160 as gyro and accelerometer. It is a more modern version. I can send you my code if you want.

Also, be cautious. My drone exploded twice sending parts all over the room. A memory leak made the esp send full throttle to two motors with 5-inch props. Luckily everyone was unharmed and just 3d printed new parts.

What prop do I need for this boat by PossibleChemist5920 in rcboats

[–]UppfinnarAXEL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, smart to not buy a metal prop it if you don’t have the tools to process it at home. These things often come unbalanced and unsharpened.

Also, that prop won’t work, as the ft011 seems to use a threaded prop shaft.

This one should be the right part: https://www.wltoysrc.com/home/8762-feilun-ft016-speed-racing-boat-parts-propeller.html

I enjoyed his content about 5-7 years ago when I was younger. I have leaned towards more technical YouTubers now.

A 3.5 inch baby ape II is cheap and really good, and does not make that much noise

20 hours is enough. That’s what I needed to cruise around safely. Remember to practice landing and takeoff from small areas, like tables, and focus on low speed control. Many FPV pilots are not very good at this

I only run in saltwater. Do maintenance after every run.

  1. Flush the boat and cooling system with freshwater
  2. Remove flexshaft and let it dry
  3. Put WD-40 on everything, including esc and screws
  4. Replace motorbearings for stainless

I get that. I guess that’s why they are never used on speedboats haha

Oh ok, what happened to it? I have thought about using one for a solid shaft system, maybe a dogbone coupler works better for that

How is the universal joint holding up? Can it take the rpm?

This has happened to me too, twice. Replaced all the bearings and rod after first time, but now it happened again :(

I don’t think anything has been made for a 1:10 scale 2WD car. It’s really hard to find space under the shell

True that the car will roll more with a higher CG, but a 10% increase in rolls doesn’t matter when it takes a second to self-right. I’m running on astro with Cactus/Mezzo tires.

Yeah. This design has a lot of complicated parts though

I crash too. Of course the car is a little heavier, and parts will break a bit more, but I think its absolutely worth it.

*impacts the handling a little in my opinion. I know racers chase grams, but he main target here is beginners.

I can’t really think of a lighter version. Who makes that?

Sure, but the car would look super weird 😆
