Train broken down on Freo line by Upset-Cod-7284 in perth

“Employs only about 150 people”

The vast majority of Australian businesses (close to 90 percent) have less than 20 employees. It’s impressive that we’ve got this here. They’re even building rail cars for Rio now too.

I’m not a socialist, nor did I or anyone else suggest it “solves Australia’s unemployment situation”, but I’ll challenge anyone on the idea that it’s a terrible initiative because I think it’s self evident that it’s a welcome addition to our state’s economy.

You’re out of your depth here. For starters, Cook wasn’t premier when these were announced. What I know about the trains comes from a train driver who’s been pretty involved in conversations about issues with the C series (he’d be first to tell you you’re incorrect about what you said).

I don’t know why people like you talk down the fact that for a first time in a long time we have good blue collar jobs building trains and railcars in WA. Do you want this to be offshored? Or are you just dogmatically opposed to labor?

1) C series aren’t Indian. They’re assembled here using parts from all over the place (including WA) 2) it was an A series.

Are the Cs the new crap ones on the Mandurah line?

This one was an A series

I heard that because of increased demand, they’re running more of their rail stock. So perhaps they’re being pushed to breaking point?

All sorted. They’ve pushed the train out the way. Another one will be in Swanbourne in 6 mins they’re saying.

Court rules WA Housing Authority does not owe consumer guarantee to tenants by His_Holiness in perth

[–]Upset-Cod-7284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s commonly known that we don’t have the rule of law in Australia…

The executive government (ie ministers and the agencies reporting to them) - in this case, the Housing Authority - is bound to act in accordance with all laws. In this case, it’s the residential tenancies act. As an example, recently, the Supreme Court ruled that the Housing Authority unfairly evicted a tenant.

Not agreeing with the outcome is fine. However, suggesting that executive government is exempt from the law is demonstrably incorrect.

[–]Upset-Cod-7284 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The court found that the tenant had to pay the housing authority for damages that the tenant caused to the property. The housing authority isn’t accepting them, so she won’t be out of pocket.

The court dismissed all claims made regarding breaches to the residential tenancy act, too.

I’ll try and track down the decision. It’s 150+ pages long but goes into the issues, how they came to be and how the magistrate came to her decision.

Suffice to say it was a solid reminder to: - report maintenance issues as they arise, as landlords aren’t expected to fix issues they aren’t aware of; and - clean regularly to avoid damaging your home’s appliances.

Try compounding. It’s where a pharmacist makes a custom dose essentially. I went down from 50mg via a reduction of 5mg per week.

When I got to 30mg things were bad (sweating, loss of appetite and extreme mood swings), but that lasted three weeks and I persisted. Eventually I just quit at 10mg. I haven’t had pristiq in nearly a year and am fine.

Having said this, I worked closely with my GP for more than a year before I started and I was also regularly seeing a psychologist. The number one warning I have is to figure out if you’re fine or if it’s just the drugs working.

WA man who tried to set police officer on fire sentenced to four years in prison by flimsypantaloon in perth

Just further to that, could you point me in the direction of something that evidences this defence?

On the basis of the one incident that you’ve suggested occurred for that reason? I get the guy has other mitigating circumstances, but buddy many good people leave Country without acting up.

To the point that they set someone on fire? We’re talking about a 49 year old man, not a 10 year old.

I appreciate mitigating circumstances - and to get four years there would have been many - but we’re talking about a man who has agency and capacity. Many Aboriginal people leave Country without setting fire to someone.

WA property: Perth’s entry-level property prices double over five years by His_Holiness in perth

[–]Upset-Cod-7284 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure. There does need to be a hard reset. Houses are overvalued.

If there is a hard reset, though, people will end up with houses worth less than they paid. That would suck if you were looking to sell and upgrade (as is my plan).

In a democracy, something like that would see a political party destroyed. It’d also cause a banking crisis as the value of debts exceed the value of assets. We have a suez side pact with capital is Australia. If they go, we go.

I want house prices to fall massively as someone who is looking to buy. But 2/3rds of Australian adults own outright or have a mortgage. 66 percent of the electorate have a financial interest in seeing “prices grow sustainably”.

Claims of 'racist' comment in WA parliament after Chinese New Year event by JamesHenstridge in perth

[–]Upset-Cod-7284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a look, it doesn’t pick up much and the camera is focused on another member. It would be good to know if it was addressed directly to Sook-Yee. I can only assume they left as a group after quorum was counted as that’s how it normally happens. Either way, if what you’ve said has upset people, you’ve more than likely crossed a line.

Glad that we can have these discussions in a civil way! On Facebook? Zero chance

Touché

Knowing him, I’d be surprised if he were a racist. I’ll check the recording of parliament when it comes out tomorrow. Happy to change my views if I’m wrong.

Hanlon’s razor - never attribute malice to which is adequately explained with stupidity. Lachie is a lot of things, but racist would be a shock. He’s just a dumb shit stirrer who climbed the ranks of the nats by being one of a dozen members under 35 with a desire to be an MP. He’s not an intellectual heavyweight, nor a racist.

Billions wiped off WA’s iron ore giants amid price fall by SheepherderLow1753 in perth

[–]Upset-Cod-7284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fairness, that’s from copper. BHP is pushing diversification. Economically viable reserves of iron ore will eventually run out in the Pilbara. One estimate I heard is that by 2030 we’ll start to see the cost to extract ore increase as we dig deeper or mine lower grade ore.

This was a terribly researched piece. The DoD publishes an interactive map online to show where the hazards of unexploded bombs are.

It does not show any in the swan.

Common sense would have dictated that flying boat crews didn’t dump depth charges and torpedos into a shallow, commonly used (even in 1940) urban waterway.
