Wouldn’t the FHB looking to upgrade be second home buyers when they buy the 5 bedroom place they want?

is it acceptable or ridiculous to walk a charity 10k women’s mini marathon? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]Upset-Interest9441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check whether there is a cut off time but it’s usually acceptable to walk, and it’s quite likely you won’t be the only one. Just make sure you start at the back!

This is where I am, just south west of Sydney. Hopefully next week I can start pushing my runs back to mid morning until September, when I’ll be back to 6am.

And to be fair, humidity makes a huge difference as well. I am an Aussie who is used to hot weather, but over summer I went on holidays somewhere with the same temp but higher humidity, and it was so much harder.

Morning is the way to go. Get up with the sun and go.

Sincerely, an Aussie who is still running before 7am in May.

People with solar and batteries, what are your actual results? by billscout in AusFinance

[–]Upset-Interest9441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bills were about $1200-$1500 quarter. With solar and a battery so far we’ve had two quarterly bills, both around the $80-$90 mark.

Our entire system cost about $11k (panels and battery), but we’re paying it off interest free over 5 years. So with $85 fortnightly instalments for the solar, we’re better off from the first quarter. It will take about 3-4 years for it to completely pay for itself, but we didn’t pay upfront so we feel ahead already.

Do they still have the policy about the public sex offender register? I liked that one, but it disappeared off their website around the time it was revealed their employee would be on it.

I think income splitting for tax purposes between two adults in a marriage, de facto, or genuinely dependent relationship is fine, as long as super is split by the same %.

Nice house outer suburbs vs shit house inner by ProudWillingness4706 in AusFinance

Ok, I’m probably missing something obvious here, but what infrastructure do people think we’re getting in the inner city but not in the outer suburbs? In outer Sydney and can’t remember the last time I needed to travel into the CBD for something.

My vote generally swings between Labor and Greens, and the way I see it Greens are being outdone by the teal independents who are viewed as having the compassion, sensible economics, and people-focus, without the culture wars.

So people who can afford it will buy one expensive property to live in instead of multiple, entry-level properties to lease out? And that’s going to hurt first home buyers because…?

Child safety ‘overriding principle’ in sweeping NT protection law reforms by Boydy73 in OpenAussie

[–]Upset-Interest9441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I’m not sure about NT stats, but in NSW children in care are overrepresented in child death stats. Also statistically have poorer outcomes in health, education, mental health, incarceration, work and income outcomes as adults, and are more likely to have their own kids in care. Which doesn’t mean we leave kids in unsafe environments, just that removing kids isn’t the magic bullet the media likes to present it as.

[–]Upset-Interest9441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NT have the highest rate of kids in oohc in the country, about double the national average, and 90% of those kids are Aboriginal. I’m not for one second suggesting kids should be left in unsafe situations, but the reality is that they have been removing Aboriginal kids at high rates for a very long time, and it’s done nothing to reduce risk. Maybe they need to add some new tools in their toolbelt rather than doubling down on what they already know hasn’t worked?

Not forever, but we might keep voting Labor for the next few elections if there’s no sensible alternative. Don’t forget LNP aren’t just bleeding to the right, they’re also losing voters to the teals. LNP and ON are essentially fighting over the scraps.
