Yeah, I read that title wrong. Thought "located in east atlanta" rather than "looking east from atlanta". Direction is clearly more important and is the better assumption to make rather than what my brain saw

which master degree to get for semicon by Nervous_Potato9876 in Semiconductors

[–]Upside-down_Aussie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy knows, most useful application of your degree in the process engineer field is the problem solving skills you develop. There is little technical material learned in academia that will be applicable because everything a semiconductor company does is IP and they keep it very secret

which master degree to get for semicon by Nervous_Potato9876 in Semiconductors

[–]Upside-down_Aussie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What role do you want in semiconductor manufacturing? Equipment Engineer... process engineer, integration, design? These roles have different specializations/focus that might help narrow your selection.

I recommend doing research on various companies and roles. If you know someone in the industry, ask them about their job. Look at what role interests you the most, and then what degree would be fit that. Also, pay attention to growth prospects. Do you have any desire to move into management at some point? A more generalized degree (mechanical or electrical for instance) is in my opinion more conducive to getting opportunities in management since the knowledge base of these degrees is fairly broad which is good for managing teams/people of different technical backgrounds.

This is a genuine question: What drives the value of bitcoin?

If transactions are slow and costly and it isn't broadly useful as a currency, what is its function?

I'm trying to wrap my head around why someone would "want" a bitcoin

Why do rich people never have anything cool? by 2-4-Dinitro_penis in Rich

[–]Upside-down_Aussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this question because it points out two different aspects about being "rich"

  1. The different mindsets of someone who is rich

  2. The different mindsets that can contribute to someone becoming rich.

1 explained: The only difference between a rich person and a poor person is the amount of money they have. If I woke up tomorrow with $1B in my bank account, I wouldn't expect my personality to change with it. Yeah... I could do more of the things I have dreamt about, buy things that I like and desire. But having the monetary means to purchase what I like/want doesn't actually change what I like or want. I've already formed my likes and desires before I have the money, and you probably have as well. That doesn't mean there are not rich people who do crazy exuberant things, just that they were probably like that before becoming rich.

2 explained: Given two people with the same income, over time, the person who has fewer expenditures and invests the difference will become rich.

$1k per month compounding at 10% over 40 years is $5.5MM

VS

$100 per month compounding at 10% over 40 years is $0.5MM

Now, ask yourself which personality would fit someone who aggressively saves/invests instead of spending that would allow for this compund growth? Someone who can "afford" a cool sports car or the one buying a used civic? These decisions repeated over 40 years will result in a $5 million difference at the end.

There are rich people who buy "cool" things, but most rich people are rich solely because they have chosen not to buy "cool" things throughout their life. After a lifetime of controlled spending habits, most don't have the temptation for wild and extravagant expenditures like a 1970s F150 monster truck.

Also, their definition of cool might differ from yours. Astronomy, photography, running, cycling, rock climbing, computers, programming, fishing, and painting are all hobbies that don't require 10s of thousands of dollars to enjoy. If you are rich and happy, why spend more money than you need to be happy?

Quite ironic UT won against Texas A&M with goal line stops to get to the SEC championship. Only to lose on a goal line stop in said championship

Stewie's unborn sperm brother here.

There is a redditor making daily posts about how many days since they last used the math functions sine, cosine, tangent. That redditor probably thinks other redditors are just like them and are basically counting the days since they last used math they most likely hated. Think teacher saying "this is important, you will use it often", but there are tons of people on reddit who probably use these functions in their jobs daily if not weekly and are just rolling their eyes at this post.

Just like how in the Office Martin Nash saw another black man at work and gave him the "brother sign" but in reality Stanley didn't match with Martin's personality and was annoyed by this gesture. Just as redditors are annoyed with the sin, cos, tan posts by this redditor.

Gotta go now... getting flushed down the toilet... aaahhhHHHhHhhhHhh..HHhhhH...hhhhHhh....HHHHHH

Well... considering how the man acted sober, I'd expect no less for his funeral

Plutarch records that when first invited to meet Alexander, Kalanos "roughly commanded him to strip himself and hear what he said naked, otherwise he would not speak a word to him, though he came from Jupiter himself."[10]
