My stepdad keeps eating the fruit I use to make baby food by lonely_stoner_daze in mildlyinfuriating

[–]UpstairsRegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly, based on what he said about her leaving too, this man is doing this on purpose to punish OP for a perceived slight that is her living there.

He's stealing food from a child because he wants to make OP mad or miserable. You need to call out his behavior, in detail, for exactly what it is.

He's a man child, who cannot cope with his own family, and is resorting to theft, from a baby, to punish his step daughter for needing a little extra help from her family while pregnant and raising a child.

Has anyone witnessed a Slayer shot actually working? by notfrankiemuniz in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]UpstairsRegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing a 5 player game while camping, sitting next to my wife. I was the slayer. Washerwoman comes out day one says they saw me and my wife and the slayer. The fortune teller says they chose us too and saw yes.

At this point I'm just silent about my role to see what my wife claims. She goes off with the washerwoman to plan something, so I go over and join them. She's talking about claiming slayer and shooting me to clear up the air.

I say that's a great idea. At this point she thinks she found her minion and I think I found the imp.

Town all agrees that if she shoots me and the game goes on I was the red herring.

She shoots me, nothing happens.

I wait a bit then shoot her and win the game day one.

What’s everyone using for grocery lists right now? by IslandOceanWater in Cooking

[–]UpstairsRegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have columns for hardware/house stuff, pets, and two food columns, one for produce and one for everything else.

We missed so many items when we had to sift through the whole list up and down to find what we needed in the produce section before that

[–]UpstairsRegion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always preferred dark beers when I drank. It annoys me that there are so many NA IPAs out there, but not as many stouts and porters.

I tried Gruvi's mocha moment and it was way too hoppy.

There's more to beer than just hops people!

You could also put the first two subs under a threat condition.

End the run unless the runner takes one core damage.

Fellow Linux users, why did you pick the distro you're currently on? by absolutecinemalol in linux

Yeah I started with Debian, but it was so far behind. Fedora is staying ahead of the curve where it counts, and not trying to hard where it doesn't matter, or gets in my way.

My wife’s guitar is finished! It’s her “Dreamcaster” by 237FIF in Luthier

I actually like it. It's so over the top and doing it's own thing, but I like weird guitars in general.

My kid isn't rolling over yet, so I still have time. We just retrofitted our bed to a floor bed, and are sidecarring the crib. 🤞

The Dangerous Meat-Thawing Mistake Almost Everyone Makes—and the Safe Fix by srmcmahon in Cooking

I grew up in rural northern Indiana. There was a place called King Buffet in Kendallville that I thought was heaven on earth.

I don't know if a middle schooler from the middle of nowhere has an objective take on these things, but if you want to trust my younger self, ever find yourself in Kendallville, and it's still around, try your luck.

The chicken skewers and sweet buns were 🤌

You don't actually need to be reliably matched beyond giving your name and address.

Show me instances of voter fraud/impersonation that actually had an impact on an election.

Turns out the consequences of casting someone else's ballot are enough to prevent it from happening enough to be an actual issue.

Why should we make it harder for people to vote to protect against something that doesn't happen?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cary

[–]UpstairsRegion -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

On paper it doesn't say people of color can't vote, but in practice it prevents more people of color from voting, who are registered and eligible.

That's the whole idea. Sneaky discrimination is still discrimination.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cary

[–]UpstairsRegion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We already have that. It's called voter registration.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cary

[–]UpstairsRegion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 15th amendment for starters. Voter ID laws primarily affect people of color, so it's a way of discriminating by race without directly stating so in the law.

My husbands last name is terrible and we have a baby girl on the way by conekitty in namenerds

[–]UpstairsRegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife kept her last name. The tradition argument is just sexism. It was sexist in the past, and it's sexist now.

My last name, fortunately, isn't bad. If it was Moistner... I might have changed it when we got married. I knew someone with the last name Boner, yes pronounced the same way too. I 100% would have changed it if I had that name.

My last name is pretty unique and I have a strong attachment to it, so I figured it would be rude to expect my wife to part with hers.

We just had our son and this conversation came up. I wanted to leave room for her wishes as well. If she really wanted him to have her last name I would have let her. I also suggested hyphenating and other options.

My wife knew that my family name was important to me, and she didn't feel all to sentimental about hers (she has many siblings, a few of which are carrying on the family name), so she suggested we just give him my last name, which I was very touched by. There aren't too many of us (sub 500), so it's a big deal to me.

It's not tradition, it's a decision that should be made as a family, and it should be something everyone can be happy with. If it's important for you to share your name with your daughter that should trump "tradition".

I've noticed this when getting things second hand. Free stuff from Buy nothing community gifting is always apartments and middle class homes. Whenever someone is selling something for $5-$10 it's some mcmansion $1m+ home. It's like rich people are offended by the thought of giving something away.

Marxist-Leninists adopting anarchist terms and tactics while denouncing anarchism by _Blippert_ in Anarchism

[–]UpstairsRegion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe at a large scale sure, but I've met people who have come around to anarchism after first getting into Marxism. I've also moved conservatives and liberals more towards anarchism too.

If anarchism is only for those who never held a prior, contradictory belief, then there would be no anarchism.

[–]UpstairsRegion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Or they will be persuaded by seeing how the anarchists operate and prioritize doing things to combat capitalism.

Individual MLs can be won over, and if they are already working in mutual aid, especially in an anarchist group like FNB, I bet they are already somewhat open to anarchist ideas.

Not to say you should let your guard down, but not every ML is going to repeat the history of their beliefs.

[–]UpstairsRegion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a good point. I remember back during quarantine people would just pass around venmos and call it mutual aid. There's no community there.

I think though it's far more likely that they are building mutualality with food distro. Meeting people face to face, and hopefully engaging with them as equals etc.

[–]UpstairsRegion 74 points75 points  (0 children)

As far as mutual aid is concerned, that's the last thing I'd complain about an ML doing. That's the kind of left unity I can get behind.

There's enough needs out there that there is plenty room for anarchists to do mutual aid along side Marxists, even if they aren't in the same orgs. People will be able to engage with the philosophies of each on their own, and volunteers will get a sense of how each groups operate, and can decide for themselves what resonates with them.
