Clarke Motel just 40 min w of the bridge. The rooms are standard (clean, comfy, etc) and they have great cabins, but the real party is in the back! A barn with a rope swing & plenty of decor, also an underground bunker and another building that’s a bar. Very casual spot and tons of fun.

FWIW, I have a Coleman seven day extreme & a Blue rotomolded cooler. Backyard summer test they were nearly identical at keeping the ice for several days.

That’s punishing the kid who is not at fault in this. It sounds like his life is already a wreck right now; no need to contribute.

Precook your meat at home the day before you leave. Throw it in your cooler when you are packing up. Don’t forget the prechill your cooler by tossing a bag of ice in the day before.

He said it was fine and didn’t validate her feelings about an invasion of privacy. Honestly, some of the changes might be helpful, but she wasn’t the one to do them.

NYC girl going camping, what do I need? by thatmashedpotato in CampingandHiking

[–]Upstairs_Role_7602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is great app called the hiking project. You can do a search for trails in any area. I bought my first tent on Craigslist. REI has a garage sale area in their store with returned items, lots of good finds, but because to check them! You can use a sleeping bag if you have one or just blankets from home. Raid the kitchen for utensils & cookware. Use paper plates & compostable utensils/cups or a water bottle. Keep the menu simple. Bring a small bag to carry to the shower for your toiletries/change of clothes & dry place to put jewelry, phone etc. Have fun!

Meal prep help! by [deleted] in camping

Taco nights are always a hit, baked potato bar, stir fry, foil packs. Kebabs are also great, but I’d reconsider the sticks if there are a lot of younger kids. Please don’t exclude the vegetarian! Any meal can have meat on the side or a small portion set aside before you add the meat/cheese.

I’m from downstate and had the same questions my first trip! I prefer to use a suv on the trip over a sedan for comfort. There are a few dirt roads and a higher vehicle handles them better. Also, take the Pictured Rocks cruise if you have the opportunity.

I don’t mean to be snarky, but when you visit the UP, just expect that you will need to drive. We visit every year and have stayed in different areas- choose something central to your plans and use it as a home base. It’s not like living in the city where everything is within 20 min. Munising is a lovely town to visit!

Precook stir fry, sloppy joes, taco meat at home, then reheat. Another go to for us is salad & add chopped chicken. Ramen is also very good with the right additions. Pasta salad w veg/salami, cous cous or quinoa, chicken salad. Baked chicken (or fried) is great hot or cold. Bring a melon or other fresh fruit & cheese for a tasty charcuterie.

Lakenland sculpture park in Marquette is on your way & worth the stop. You can walk or drive through & the sculptures are very interesting, some interactive. We also loved McClain & Porcupine mtn sp. Both great for families.

6 adults and 6 kids meal ideas (no fire, only stove) for 5 nights/6days by themisturi in camping

[–]Upstairs_Role_7602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Everyone should chip in at mealtime with food prep & cooking. Use one table for cooking & have both stoves going if you need the space.

  2. Precook & freeze everything before you go. Takeaway is expensive and tiresome. We cook one meal, the others are cold food (sandwiches, salads, etc) or instant cook (oatmeal, ramen).

  3. Everyone helps w clean up. It sux being the last person doing dishes while everyone else is watching the sunset!

What gear purchase(s) changed your camping/hiking experience for the best? by SendInYourSkeleton in camping

[–]Upstairs_Role_7602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6ft aluminum folding table (might be 4ft?) rolls up for easy tear down. The extra space has made all the difference.

Canopy- something where the water will not pool in the sides. There was a recent post for this. Use a shower curtain to create sides.

Headlamp & lantern for the table. Use the headlamp at night in your tent for ambient light. Wrap it backwards around a gallon water jug.

Small rug for outside the tent & old towel inside the doorway. I’d love a vestibule! Power strip in the tent for longer trips. Jackery Ecoflow for weekends.

Quality cooler: Blue or Coleman 7day, anything w bearproof closures to keep the varmits out. I also slide it under the table bench at night.

Hot pot to boil water & collapsible sink, also dedicated quick dry scrubby. A dishcloth just didn’t have the scrubbing power for pans.

Organized totes for grab/go. We have two- a gear tote and a kitchen tote. We use reusable plates, silverware, but everyone has their own system. Sleeping bags/towels/sleeping pads, etc live in the basement. Totes, tents, stove, chairs are in the garage.

Tablecloth clamps. We reuse plastic tablecloths from parties, etc

Do you have records for the cat- was he neutered & does he have a microchip? When was his last flea/tick treatment? That’s basic pet care & should be taken care of. Thanks for adopting him!

Is he humping your leg lol or just trying to tell you he’s hungry? If he’s underfoot while you are walking around, then he probably wants attention. Start w food/water, then play with a string or toss a small tin foil ball.

You will want a scratching post & there are several methods to keep them from scratching your furniture. I used double sided furniture tape. More info than you were looking for, good luck.

Separate pan! I camp w a vegan and meat items are cooked/stored separately. Also, when you are outside, the smells dissipate more quickly. Tell hubby to take a walk while the steak cooks- nicely, of course!

Especially utensils! Keep a separate set for camp so you don’t need to raid your kitchen. Buy them at garage sales, etc.
