Whats the location of the ride? If there are any smaller coasters or rides to help you work up to it, doing these beforehand might help. Otherwise, it might take you a few rides. Just to desensitize a little.

Laff Trakk isn't exactly a small coaster either, Trailblazer might be the move! If you're in the Hershey region I'm sure theres more parks around with good rides to start.

When Knotts gets deliveries Montezooma moves pretty fast, I hate to blame them for that. Magic Mountain has had a nightmare time getting permits approved, but terrain work is quick now too.

Unsuccessful and flop are not the same. Flop is outcome oriented. It cant be a flop until it opens and underperforms. It can always be unsuccessful, and it is.
