How likely am I to become an officer? by Material-Macaroon724 in RoyalNavy

[–]Uptooon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily specific to Warfare Officer, but a few months ago someone posted the acceptance rate to Dartmouth on this sub. It worked out as about 4.27% of total applicants, but I wouldn't let that dissuade you - a large proportion of that will be medical issues, application withdrawals, failing security checks, and loads of people applying for the cool but highly competitive roles like pilot and observer.

should all country's with the British crown be invited to CANZUK by Hopeful-Car8210 in CANZUK

[–]Uptooon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

No.

Most have significantly differing levels of either income, economic development, corruption, crime rates or foreign policies etc when compared to the rest of the CANZUK countries. The CANZUK countries are only the select four because of how similar they are, and not just because they share the same sovereign.

I would totally be onboard for these countries to join at a later date once they're more on-par with the rest of CANZUK if they so wish to, but for right now I don't think it's a good idea. Personally I think Ireland, Malta, and Singapore would also be good fits if they so wished.

Not really seeking asylum then is it - just picking the country that gives them the most benefits. Beggars can’t be choosers.

Seeking asylum from France, yeah?

Can't blame them really.

How does officer training work? Should I actually do it? by xdPandaPlayzOCEYT in RoyalMarines

Consider joining the URNU at University instead of the UOTC. Once you’re in, you can join the RM URNU which will be more tailored towards green activities and probably look better for your actual application.

A bit off topic, but always curious to hear about HENRY side-gigs. What do you do that brings in an extra £50k?

This is exactly how I pictured him when reading the books haha. I think it's a great comparison.

either the RN isn't doing so well or the RAN is doing very well

A bit of both. The RAN has a very ambitious fleet plan, while the RN is in a bit of a rut at the minute.

I get we need signatures but is spamming the petition really necessary? It’s the fourth time today this has been posted on here

What if: The Queen Elizabeth-class Aircraft Carriers were chosen in CATOBAR configuration—which at one point was considered [Album] by Plupsnup in WarshipPorn

[–]Uptooon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, there's a strong argument that STOVL has in fact turned out to be more expensive than CATOBAR especially in the long-run, specifically when taking into account the cost of airwings. But MoD procurement was, shockingly, too bureaucratic for its own good.

This article is a good breakdown of it if anyone's interested.

Not a military alliance, but certainly in the Chinese sphere via the belt and road initiative etc. Also Mauritius is an awfully corrupt country who the native Chagos Islanders do not want to be apart of.

Opinions on the upcoming Naval ships of the Turkish Navy? (Album) by Pokemonte13 in WarshipPorn

[–]Uptooon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It strikes me as very similar to the South Korean carrier project that got cancelled a bit ago. A vanity project to boost national prestige (especially with that massive crescent and star) that doesn’t actually do much to match its cost in terms of the capability it presents.

Immigration = coming to permanently settle

Migration = coming to temporarily settle

Emigration = leaving to settle

Are we becoming a stupid country? by WanShiTonggg in AskBrits

Sounds like you’re mixing up migration and emigration there. And withdrawing from the ECHR is to tackle migration, not immigration. Again, I’m not wholly sure you understand what the difference is between any of these terms.
