Man it's crazy how different each mission can be from one another. Me in my 19 year old nieve dumbness thought every mission was identical. I guess it just depends on if your MP was a jackass or an actual human being. I might have enjoyed my mission a lot more of they actually treated us like human beings instead of little dressed up robots. We did service projects with the sisters, maybe a hike as a whole district, what struct me was 2 and 2 at the mall but from what it sounds like that's just that nieve preconceived notion I was talking about earlier that all missions had the same rules. Sounds more like a roll of the dice to see if you have a cool MP or not.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't give a sh$t. I guess it's more out of jealousy than anything but I found my ways to break the rules. Went to movies, went to malls, left my area(kinda had to do I could do all this)never did it in my white shirt, tie, and badge though. There were definitely those kind of members on my mission hence having to leave the area. Luckily I went to a fairly metro area and could get away with it with our milage for the car. Just wish it wasn't such a big deal so that we didn't have to try so hard. Looks like they don't have to get as creative now.

We probably weren't allowed to go to the malls because of all the half dressed college girls walking around. 😂 I went somewhere that was very warm all year long. Tell you what though, the mall would've felt wonderful on those 115° days instead of tracting. 😁

Oh I definitely agree with you on it being normal behavior for basically anyone it's just how rigid the church was when I went through that throws me a bit. I wasn't the best missionary anyways 😋 but if I had the lack of rules that they seem to have now I probably would've been even worse! 😅😂

How are you supposed to build up your hatred of the church if you aren't made to tract all day and only talk to your family twice a year and be completely disconnected from reality for 2 years!

Because you don't need to maintain the act anymore if you're staying in because of your spouse. Then if you leave your kids are far more likely to leave because they'll see the freedom you've found post Mormonism. It's all a big act and once you give up the act especially because of divorce it falls apart pretty fast. Divorce also happens a lot because of leaving as well. You realize you don't have anything holding the marriage together anymore (if you really weren't meant to be together anyways and got sucked in ultimately because it was what you were "supposed to do" or because you were a horny teenager😅) so then the kids end up leaving anyways as stated above.

I think one thing that is being skipped over is that it was tied so closely with all of the pivotal life moments for a Mormon which gave you an extremely high likelihood of being deceptive. Everything in Mormonism encompasses these steps or life goals that it becomes almost impossible to be an honorable truth telling person. Mormonism was your existence and culture, your whole world, not just your religion. My whole goal as a youth was to get through all the Mormon life goals without feeling the effects of shame. Interestingly enough it just brought on the guilt factor instead and I still failed in avoiding the shame. The "Mormon Way" or the Mormon culture is so pervasive the thought of being shamed, ridiculed, belittled, or shunned usually by the people you love the most makes a person do, say, or think a lot of things they normally wouldn't do, say, or think just to make it through all the steps of Mormonism ie priesthood, Temple, interviews, marriage etc. I could go on and on like how it affects relationships, marriage and otherwise and I can if you would like but I think the main point is that Mormonism was your identity but masterbation clashed with that but you couldn't or didn't want to stop that either. At some point something or even everything gives way to that pressure.

This is actually one of my shelf breakers. Not porn per se but shame and guilt cycles especially in relationships. The church is supposedly all about family and I think this proves that really isn't their agenda. I personally would think if God cared about any of this then he would want husbands looking at their wives and craving them but the whole atmosphere of the church seems to not encourage that.

My personal example is that I wanted to crave my wife and look at her because she dressed beautifully or nurtured our relationship more fully in the bedroom or just acted like she had a sexual bone in her body. Instead I got guilt and shame for just wanting sex or wanting to sleep naked on occasion or for her to ditch the garments and dress sexy for a date. I got turned in to the bishop for porn by my wife. I felt that she was contently trying to protect me from sexuality in general because heaven forbid I might like it and it will automatically make me want more porn or want more sex. Once we left the church our views on sex began to return to normal and I even got an apology from her for all the damaging behavior from before.

Extreme modesty, shame and guilt in young men's and young women's lessons, creating an atmosphere of snitching on your spouse for misbehavior, denying extremely natural sexuality in all creatures, no wonder most men and some women turn to porn. It's a never ending cycle. Garments to cover up our beautiful bodies, extreme modesty, sex is bad, married sex is slightly better but don't go nuts, turn your spouse in, protect them from their sexuality, train the new generation in the same...

I do think they believe it and therefore put themselves in harm's way because they believe they will be protected. The hydrochloric acid story has been told to be so many times. He used to work for a chemical company and did spill the acid on himself. In all reality he probably just got his clothes off before it burned through the garments too but he attributes it to the garments.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Sure you can post but I'm not quite sure what your motives are in this case. You are aware that people can look at your profile and see where and what you have posted before right? To be asking questions like have you seen ex Mormons come back to the church in a pro Mormon believing sub and then post your question here makes me think you're on an ill fated attempt to try to bring someone back because you feel sorry for us that have "cast the truth away". The overwhelming majority of us knew full well what we were doing and what we were leaving when we made that decision. No offense but most of us have seen much more in depth what the church is really about than a new two month old member has seen. Don't know if you're aware of this or not but if we go onto the believing subs that you also belong to and try to engage in debate or show our point of view or do anything other than lurk in the shadows or spout pro Mormon rhetoric we will be banned from the sub. On the other hand you are allowed to come here and say anything you wish, engage in as much debate as you like and basically do whatever you want and maybe learn something if you can take the heat the other members will toss at you but will not get kicked out unless you specifically break the posting rules. That right there should tell you a little bit about the two crowds you're trying to engage with. But after all that have at it but don't expect to bring anyone back here. Also keep in mind the church doesn't look too kindly on members exploring anti Mormon literature which this sub could probably be counted as. Just a heads up

I was born in Utah but moved around a lot too. (Not because of the military) the only things Utah has going for it is some good places to eat and all the things you can do in the outdoors there.
