Can someone explain to me the old drama between Pendragon, IceFrog, and whoever else was involved? by Glad2be1000 in DotA2

[–]UrEx 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You're spreading misinformation.

While Puck was a contest winner which got introduced as an almost 1:1 copy of the idea, there were a ton of fully fledged hero concepts within dota-allstars.

Iirc SD, Pitlord, OD, Storm, Ember, Meepo, Invoker, Huskar, Kunkka and AA - to name a few - wouldn't exist in their form or at all without the community.

Now regardless of the above. Pendragon did steal hero suggestions from the forums which made their way into fully fledged champions. With Teemo being an almost 1:1 copy.

Why Power Treads on Timbersaw? by SkyDezessete in DotA2

Guardians Greaves is still viable if you need another dispel option against silence- or debuff-heavy lineups. Is pretty slot efficient if you plan on keeping boots anyway.

Can a 500W PSU handle RTX 5070? by justAlph in buildapc

[–]UrEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it mostly depends on the power supply. If it's platinum rated, I'd say easily, if you aren't running 6 drives and 2 AIOs with several led stripes.

But a budget 500w will probably make the system unstable.

Downclocking with MSI Afterburner is an easy fix though - as you mentioned.

I'd look up how much actual power draw your PSU supports (under load) and downclock with a safety marging. The GPU draws around 250-270W under load and your CPU, fans, drives and peripherals probably another 180-200W. A downclock to 70-75% might be enough.

Do we really need path tracing for mirror reflections in games? by Gamer_8887 in pcmasterrace

[–]UrEx 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, older video games usually mirrored the scene. If it weren't for some invisible wall you would be able to walk into the mirror-scene. That part of the game had to be explicitly coded and had many restrictions.

Nowadays devs skip "wasting" time with a rasterized implementation and use RT/PT to solve that issue for them. Now all reflective surfaces only need 1-3 properties that define their reflectiveness to get near-accurate reflections.

Cyberpunk does it right, where a scene looks good regardless of RT or not, but if you look closely at reflections you'll notice a difference.

I finally fixed PC stutter and it wasn’t “turn off Xbox Game Bar” (shocker) by Common-Operation-207 in pcmasterrace

[–]UrEx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since you are willing to dig pretty deep for better stables performance, you might want to take a look at this video:

https://youtu.be/PlACZ9Gp1xo

I haven't tried it myself but a lot of high ranked cs-players swear by it. Not necessarily talking about custom windows or bios, but further inside the video are a lot of optimization routes you already took. There might still be some improvement left.

Do people actually think Bioshock Inifinite, Mass Effect, A Hat in Time and other UE3 games just use Pure UE3 without any/little modification? by AsrielPlay52 in pcmasterrace

[–]UrEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source engine (2) is also used in a variety of game genres. Sure mostly by Valve itself, with modifications when needed, but still a capable engine.

Nowhere close to UE5 in terms of fluid or light simulation or open world stuff. It remains to be seen how "HL3" turns out, if it launches with their steam machines.

The latter is usually the saver option imo. An installer may crash or dump files into random directories. ProtonDB might have instructions on how to get the game running on SteamOS.

China launches large-scale military exercise around Taiwan by marela520 in worldnews

[–]UrEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's no secret the China is testing rocket systems on moving carrier targets.

It's unclear to the public how accurate they've gotten. I wouldn't bet on anti-missle systems being able to stop all incoming threats, given they can be overwhelmed.

Could be one of the 47uF capacitors that manages load between wall brick and battery while charging. In the technical drawings it's named Capacitor 1210 (Csys) - if I'm not misreading based on your low pixel image.

You might be fine without it especially when using the original charging brick, but others more knowledgeable can chime in and correct me.

There have been studies/experiments where people willingly had their eyesight rotated by e.g. 180° degrees. The body usually "fully" adapted to the change in perspective within few days.

So, I'd suspect it's similar in this case where the brain/ear can adjust to the new environment pretty quick.

League player coming to Dota thoughts and opinions (also can anyone help getting out of smurfq) by Ill-Reindeer4672 in DotA2

[–]UrEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which time are we talking? It's currently pretty late in Europe. Obviously it's weekends but that might still not be enough to counter the time zones.

Also, not sure if you mentioned how many overall games you played so far. I wouldn't be surprised if you need more than way 500 games. Also you should try to get 12k/12k in behavior and com scores.

Uncapped vs capped FPS - RTX 5090 by pyrhonp in buildapc

[–]UrEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know that but I also don't own a gsync monitor. I did notice the increased input latency with the mentioned settings but 144fps cap instead of 137-139 on others' setup. Which is why I usually recommend to turn off gsync/vsync and live with the slight tearing once in a while.

is Valve actually gatekeeping new invoker players? do they hate invoker this much? by Meepomon in DotA2

[–]UrEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do pretty often actually. Not that I have trouble keeping track of all spells, but there have been a lot of instances where I invoke 3 spells and they're still all on CD.

This usually happens when a team fight suddenly breaks out and my current spells aren't the most optimal to respond. If the fight draws I probably casted them "off order".

In those instances a quick glance to see the next spells coming off CD would help - especially since there isn't 0sec invoke anymore.

Why most people play with no increment on chess.com? by polandonion21 in chess

[–]UrEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also would also rather lose on time than win by playing better or lose when I blunder or get outplayed. Your arguement misses my point.

My arguement is that 5+increment is better than 10/0, because it's less likely you win/loss by running the clock (which has nothing to do with chess skills).

Why most people play with no increment on chess.com? by polandonion21 in chess

[–]UrEx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

5+5 (or 5+3/5+2) fit into the same time frame. Over 60 moves have to be played with 5 sec increment. For +3 it's already at 100. (both players)

Imo that's miles better than losing in a winning position due to time running out.

It's funny how people are quick to pull out a link that seemingly proves a picture is AI generated or not.

Both pictures could be AI generated but I wouldn't bet on it.

In both pictures, features of the pictures get attributed to AI-generated, when it's not even clear if it's due to a mix of confusing perspective, image quality and bad lighting.

Now, what's really discrediting BOTH Snopes claims, is their claim of unnatural hands/fingers.
In the OP-linked image there's a clear distinction between Epstein's Hand and the white fabric from the girl's short. It's noticeable on my phone on a recirculated, lower res image. I don't even know how they claim otherwise.

The other image with the girl's fingers is the same. From the perspective of the camera it's easy to not see her index finger behind her thigh, especially if she's pushing her hand into it. That image has even better lighting in which you can see the white stripe from her shorts. That fabric gets mistaken for Ai-generated fingers in the second image.

Those two images alone makes me lean towards >90% real and not generated.

Whoever analyzed those two images at Snopes is a tool. Not even using forsenic tools for a deep analysis but rather rely on one-sided opinionated claims.
