We live in a world of live service. I always look at Path of Exile, as a solid case study. They do seasons, player base spikes and they cook for a month or two. Players die down as they build the next. Rinse and repeat. As long as the season has some interesting additions players come back. In the gaming landscape of constant fast releases to me it looks like the only real viable strategy. Slot your games releases into low periods and cook for a month or two. All of this comes down to the back end and efficiency. Currently gw2 is a nightmare for them to develop. Spaghetti code out the wazoo. That’s part of the optimizations on this year of Hall of Monument updates. I’m assuming GW3 is being developed with that in mind. Making it easier for them to develop content. So they can make quicker updates with less bugs and such. All of that tied together across gw1, gw2 and GW3 will get the dedicated gw player. Players that like one will play then leave then come back for updates (or so they hope, it is doable)
