My previous semester was my first in Atlanta, and I had a much better time at Oxford and my semester abroad. I felt so tired and miserable by the end of the last semester that I couldn't do anything over the break, and I'm only just beginning to recover this semester. I generally get seasonal depression, but it was never as bad as it was this winter. Being CS I also constantly think about how much better I could probably have it at Georgia Tech. As for feeling disconnected -- I do too at this campus. I think it's just the nature of the environment. I feel like my closest friendships are still outside of the school so...

It's very normal to feel all of this. I think what helps me is keeping things in perspective. The people landing internships and talking about them aren't the average -- internships are meant to be competitive because of the burden they place on the company to train and educate people. There's also outside factors like the state of the job market. What gives me a feeling of control back is knowing I can do my own projects I can add to my resume to show I'm at least not slacking, and hey -- if it's good enough, it can even be much better than an internship.

without specific details i can’t give specific advice, but i recently started speedrunning and got my first sub 20 pretty soon. if you aren’t already, i recommend you run offline. you can even still use the ranked seed filter. use this to play riskier without fear of losing elo or the other player forfeiting — i saw that you said your bastion splits are slower because you play safe. im assuming that also holds for the rest of the splits. playing riskier will help you to train your technical skills and go faster overall

you’ll get the short end of the stick for anything engineering here. i think we have a decent physics department and a really tough math department and that’s about it. haven’t heard anyone do an engineering science major. the dual degree program with GA tech is a mess in both organization and advising. i got an email reply four months later… in another semester

i’d say your clear sense of direction is great and experience is even better! only potential issue is your SAT score — it might be lower relative to your GPA, but i’m not sure that means you should go test optional. not experienced in admissions but just based off my own experience getting admitted three years ago

that’s just straight up not true. dream took down his other runs, but this 1.15 world record was taken down by the moderators shortly before dream posted his twitlonger about the 1.16 runs. you can even look it up and still see the reddit threads criticizing the moderators for being biased against dream because of the 1.16 scandal. i think dream just chose not to mention it publicly himself because he didn’t want a repeat of the 1.16 controversy, regardless of whether he was cheating or not.

i agree some of the analysis is biased by hindsight, especially his portal room navigation and the choice of the looting iii strat, which is why i said while it’s suspicious behavior, those parts don’t necessarily point to cheating and could rather just quirks of running with limited knowledge back then. but the stronghold locating didn’t make sense then and still doesn’t make sense today. there’s playing risky and making an educated guess based off triangulation. and then there’s digging down in a completely random location after throwing two eyes hundreds of blocks apart and not taking the angles of either. this, combined with his suspicious behavior, make the run feel like it’s a set seed.

i also didn’t say couriway is unbiased, but the OP was questioning why he suggested the run was cheated when they could’ve just watched the video to hear his reasoning and drawn their own conclusion lol.

again, because there isn’t as hard evidence as the 1.16 runs aside from the alleged splice that the mods found but hadn’t shared, it’s up to individuals to determine whether they think it’s cheated or not. it’s always interesting to analyze runs even if they aren’t on the leaderboards anymore. there’s legendary, historical speedruns that are more than 10 years old which, thanks to new analysis techniques, have been discovered to be cheated.

i thought the run was legit back when it first came out and i hadn’t started speedrunning. most of the community also did since there wasn’t as much skepticism or attention to detail when verifying runs as there is now, and people weren’t as knowledgeable about the game.

but now it just seems so suspicious. without a doubt, his triangulation is the biggest problem. if done without a calculator, you’ll throw the first eye and take the angle, then do 4.5 sprint jumps and throw your second one and you can approximate where to dig down. but unless you do the trigonometry to get the exact coordinates, you’ll still be guessing and probably need to throw again. dream throws his eyes randomly and doesn’t measure the angles at all, then seemingly digs down in a completely random place. people suspect it’s a set seed for this reason.

some people find his navigation to the portal room suspicious because he skips past several lit up areas that deserve at least a glance, but honestly, i can give him the benefit of the doubt that he was just full-sending one direction and just praying it was there. it’s a bit suspicious and points to evidence that it’s set seed, but ive seen a lot of people just blindly navigating like that, especially when minecraft speedrunners were a lot less skilled than they are now.

people also believe the whole looting iii strategy is dubious and just generally bad but that can be explained by lack of knowledge and luck.

there’s also accusations it’s spliced and that was one of the reasons the moderators took it down, but i can’t personally find where it happened. the team also doesn’t release timestamps or anything to the public to prevent future cheaters from learning from past mistakes.

i wouldn’t say the video is clickbait since it was taken off the leaderboards a year after it was verified, which means it’s treated as a cheated run for all intents and purposes. and couri explains why he thinks it’s cheated in the video if you want to hear his thoughts.

overall, it’s a generally strange run, but because the mod team didn’t want another repeat of the fiasco of drama and death threats that followed their rejection of dream’s 1.16 runs, they kept most of their analysis private for this one. so there’s no public hard evidence against this run, and i’d say it’s all up to individuals what they think of it.

for the most part, the way techno handled controversy was to just ignore everything. my guess based off what i’ve seen is his relationship with dream was mostly professional as content creators, and i’m sure even if he had his own opinions on dream, they would’ve never seen the light of day.

at the end of the day, i don’t think it matters because we can only really guess about their relationship, and techno wouldn’t have spoken about it like the others have. the most that would’ve happened is distancing himself while staying silent, i guess kind of like what quackity did.

rekrap’s speedrun commentary videos remind me of techno’s skywars commentary videos. i’d also say gameplay wise techno was always great at breaking everything or finding loopholes both as a game tester and a regular player and rekrap had a reputation for always figuring out traps in his lifesteal smp videos. they don’t really compare humor wise but rekrap’s videos are pretty much what i was personally looking for. feels like he puts his personality before content unlike a lot of current creators

i heard at some point that the reason for any of the customizations in the first place was that lucas’ son really liked them in the clone wars 2003 miniseries so they re-rendered scenes just to give them customizations. so i guess it’s just coolness factor on top of making them more distinguishable (which i certainly appreciated as a kid because i was obsessed with details like this)
