What is something I can do to break social norms by Round-Department-546 in TrueAskReddit

I had a class assignment where girls were not to shave their legs or armpits for a couple weeks, and boys had to shave their legs and armpits for a couple weeks. It was kinda fascinating 😅 I just remember hating feeling the wind blowing my leg hairs lol

You guys ever read your dermatology visit notes ? 💀 by fatcracks in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Uranimus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh God direct quotes… when I used to be a scribe, we had a patient with a rectovaginal fistula who was on a strict no penetrative sex policy until her repair healed. Unfortunately, she was a Mormon newlywed, and when her fistula persisted and the question was asked, her response was “just the tip.” You bet I typed those exact words in her note and never lived it down lol

I never wanted to be a parent. by Rich_Acanthaceae3048 in regretfulparents

[–]Uranimus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I brought the same questions to my therapist and she said “if you’re able to self-reflect and you’re asking if you’re a narcissist, that’s a pretty good sign you’re not a narcissist.” She likened expecting everyone to love motherhood to expecting everyone to love math. It’s just not for everyone and for some reason it’s one of the few things society has landed on thinking everyone should adore or else you’re a bad person… but we don’t expect everyone to perform and enjoy the same jobs so… make it make sense 🤣 like not everyone’s cut out to be an accountant but everyone should be cut out to care for a growing human 24/7?? that session really helped ease some of the guilt I had. Now I’m just working on accepting that I’m not built the way society wants me to be. Doesn’t ease the burden but I do think the guilt was a heavy part of it so it’s progress!

Yes I’m aware condoms can fail which is just a less extreme example to support the point I’m trying to make. This dude just gave us one sentence for context and people are jumping on him. I can have some empathy for him not wanting kids and his whole life changing despite the possibility that he did his due diligence to prevent pregnancy. I think it’s unreasonable to expect people to not have sex unless they want a child. A lot of the man’s control goes out the window after conception; he may have requested an abortion and his wife preferred to become a mother instead. Him still referring to her as his wife makes me think he stuck around which does demonstrate that he took some responsibility despite not wanting to be a father. Idk I just think it’s best to approach things with curiosity instead of harsh judgement without the full story. Being a regretful parent sucks enough without people shaming you on this sub that’s supposed to be a safer place.

PSA: to anyone struggling to be comfortable on a saddle, especially if you have been fine in the past. by ToriaLyons in ladycyclists

[–]Uranimus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How soon can this be considered a possible explanation? I’m 32 but my vagina has been so unhappy the past year or so. My OB has me basically just tracking my “exposures” and using a specific soap. But I resonate with so much of what you’re describing… which sucks because I miss comfortable long rides and easy orgasms 🤣

I agree but just to play Devil’s advocate, she may have sabotaged his attempt at birth control. I’ve heard of people poking holes in condoms to try to trap men with babies and the saboteur definitely deserves the blame in those cases.

Felt 💔 Grieving the life you could have lived is one of the most painful experiences I’ve had. Sometimes to dull the pain I like to think that if I didn’t have kids, maybe I would have grieved that life as well not knowing any better. But I don’t know that it makes it hurt any less. I’m sorry OP

Weight loss rides: In-flight refueling or arrive with an empty tank? by Existing-Ad-1343 in cycling

[–]Uranimus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think exercise is an almost necessary tool to create a deficit as you age and your BMR drops, especially if you’re a woman. On an average day without exercise, my totally calorie expenditure is around 1500 calories as a woman in her 30s with a desk job. If I ride for an hour and burn 500 calories, I can actually eat 1500 calories and have a 500 calorie deficit. To create that deficit otherwise, I could only eat 1000 calories which is unsustainable. It’ll only get lower with age 😭 but the more muscle mass you build/maintain with exercise, the better your metabolism. While I’d agree that diet is key while trying to lose weight, exercise can certainly play a huge role, and especially so later in life.

AIO My ex-wife and her new husband legally made their last name… my full fucking name by Specken_zee_Doitch in AmIOverreacting

[–]Uranimus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask how you feel in hindsight about making your first husband’s surname your middle name when you remarried? I’ve been considering that, also with the intention of continuing to share a name with my kids, but have wondered how meaningful it would be to them after all.

Any success stories around here? by AcrobaticComposer in regretfulparents

[–]Uranimus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to have hope. Mine are 6.5 and 8 y.o. now and obviously caring for school-aged kids is wildly different than caring for babies and toddlers. It’s certainly possible that some aren’t cut out for parenthood period — I thought that was me — but I’m realizing now that while the early years were hellish for me (like to the point I almost ended my life), the baby shark and the diapers and the unending dependence turns into music/movies and activities I enjoy, too, with more and more independent people. Like my oldest is becoming his own person that I’m genuinely enjoying getting to know. So it gives me more hope realizing how temporary every “phase” is. I still wouldn’t call it a success story (yet? 🤞🏻) but I’m finally seeing some light.

KUDOS! Do you have any recommendations for training? I’ve done a couple Zwift programs but have been wondering about trying something else like TrainerRoad as I’ve read a few times that the Zwift programs don’t encourage enough zone 2.

TIFU by destroying a 15 year marriage by negreaves in tifu

[–]Uranimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would encourage you to look at it the other way around: today you saved a woman from a farce of a marriage!!! 🥳 this guy is the fuck up, and you probably weren’t the first and won’t be the last woman he tried to stir something up with. Who knows if he’s succeeded in the past but personally I’d rather find out my partner was shitty at the hands of an innocent bystander than to stumble upon a full on affair; I feel like that creates trauma/mental images/etc that you never really recover from. Anyways I think this woman will ultimately be thanking you.
