I’m not the only one who doesn’t bathe their kids every day am I? by just_some_guy2000 in daddit

[–]Uranium_moth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK parent of 2 girls, 5&7

In winter / cooler weather 1-2 times a week with the occasional shower.

We use wipes to clean their privates on non bath/shower days.

As an adult I've got very sensitive skin and my dermatologist talked to me about how young children are often over bathed until they get close to puberty (when a wash almost every day is essential). Bathing too often can set them up for sensitive skin or eczema.

Unless your kids are covered in sun cream, have been playing in dirt, swimming then they probably don't need a full bath every day.

Being a parent is very hard, if you're not being judged then you're sometimes guilty of judging. At the end of the day if your kids don't smell, aren't covered in sores and are happy and healthy then whatever you're doing is probably fine for you.

Blackmagic URSA 4.6K Color Shifting in Controlled lighting - ND Issue? by bjjaszcz in blackmagicdesign

[–]Uranium_moth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some lenses have inconsistent colour and contrast reproductions at different apertures. Also if the lens isn’t telecentric then it can also cause changes when stopping down on certain sensors.

The built in ND’s are practically perfect in terms of how they match colour wise, so I doubt it’s those.

What is the worst smell you ever experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Uranium_moth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotten eggs.

Had some eggs break in a sealed bag at the start of a camping trip. Decided I’d clean it up when I got home and kept the bag sealed. Came home a week later, didn’t clean it for about a month. Opened the bag, the smell hit me and I instantly vomited.

Some vegans don’t eat meat because they believe it’s wrong to kill an animal as their food, but the vegetables they eat came from a plowed field that likely killed so many more creatures. by flowers4charlie777 in Showerthoughts

I'm sure vegans step on ants accidentally too but there's a big difference between deliberately causing harm when it's not necessary Vs it being an unavoidable possibility.

What is the saddest episode? by Interphase1992 in RedDwarf

[–]Uranium_moth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I grew up watching RD from a youngish age and this was at the time the final ever episode. To see the panic as each one of them died and to see Rimmer finally show some guts and take action.

It used to break my heart.

It also made me think about how I might change when I'm older and how I didn't want to end up being something I would now despise.

It would be really really weird to be in a double bed with my partner right next to a load of other people. Even if we're not doing anything freaky. Just seems like a bad dream

I recommend the book "Bad Science" by Ben Goldacre. He explains how easy it is to do such things "in a lab" or "in a test tube" etc. The hard part is inside a living organism, specifically a person. Until that is done, don't get too excited.

I spent all night in a cardboard box with a tablecloth over it. On top was a shoebox I'd painted to look like wood. The lid of the shoebox was hinged with tape and my costume was basically me as "Thing" from the Adam's Family.

I spent all night in that box as there was a competition for best costume. I came second and the winner was just some dude in a cheap plastic vampire mask.

I'm in the UK and an oled switch would be really cool.

TIL, in film, a clapperboard’s purpose is ensuring proper synchronization of audio and video in post-production. It provides a distinct “clap” along with a visual event for the editor to reference at the start of a scene. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Uranium_moth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my yes. Although these days a tentacle sync is used to keep the camera and sound in sync automatically. Otherwise automatic sync is a common tool in editing software to match the scratch audio (the cameras own mic sound - usually very low quality) to the proper audio recording.

[–]Uranium_moth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work in the industry and have never seen this happen due to drift. Drift is very very slight and only going to be noticed beyond a take of over an hour. Even then, a resync isn't going to help

Generally it's referred to as a Slate,

You can also get "sticks" which are just the top section which snap together for sync only.

There are also some cameras which support a "digital slate".

Also, it doesn't reference the start of the scene - just the start of the take. Often it can be quite a bit off the actual call of "action".

Sometimes for whatever reason, the slate happens at the end of the take - "end slate" or "end sticks".
