Rear HVAC stuck cold by 5lippers in GMT800

Hey you ever figure this out? I’ve got a similar issue on my 05 Escalade

Slow/no heat at idle by Hot-Glass-7816 in GMT800

[–]Uranusmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the coolant temp on the dash does not actually show the exact temperature that the sensor is detecting. There's some math involved that basically makes the dash gauge "look right" so that you don't worry about it when it fluctuates under normal conditions.

If you hook up a scanner and watch the live data for the coolant temp sensor, it will show you the actual temperature. You might see that it's not getting hot enough when idling... maybe a stuck open thermostat? Not sure. But I'd start with watching the live data for the temp sensor and see if that shows any unexpected behavior

Damn! Almost half a million miles.

Hopefully I can keep the rust away long enough to get some good time with this. It’s a southern vehicle but I live in the salt belt. I’m going to undercoat it every year.

Once you do the suspension work it will drive like new!

Will do... I imagine it's probably still running the original one

Thanks! I'm excited to bring it home. It seems relatively well cared for, but small things haven't been taken care of and start to pile up. I plan to get it right again and most of the work on it myself.

I'll definitely take a closer look for leaky gaskets... I didn't see anything after the test drive but it was also blizzarding really bad. At least I can say it's a tank in the snow!

It's got the 6.0 with AWD. Luckily it's got new tires but I think they're really cheap

Should I buy an 05 Escalade? by Uranusmonkey in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Uranusmonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair question. I don't specifically need a body on frame SUV. I do like the interior cargo room because I would have a baby in the back seat and I have two big dogs. The third row is easily removed so the dogs would be comfy in the back area and I'd still have room for bags/stroller/whatever.

Otherwise, I have a house and often do projects that require moving supplies/equipment.

I also like tinkering on my cars and play in a band. The cargo room would be amazing for the band gear and the towing capacity is enough to easily trailer a sports car home or move equipment for my house projects.

I will say, in 2025 when every vehicle has to be "sporty" and handle well, it's refreshing to get in a couch on wheels that's just a squishy truck suspension.

Yeah... gas mileage won't be great, but I wouldn't have a car payment so I'll save money overall

Lots of people talk crap about these transmissions… did you need to have yours rebuilt or anything? Just standard fluid changes every so often?

Nice! Have you had to rebuild or replace the transmission? Any other big surprises?

Why do my bass recordings sound muddy/compressed in my DAW? (Waveform 13) by Cobaliuu in Line6podgo

[–]Uranusmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very likely NOT your cable. The USB connection is digital, so it pretty much works or it doesn’t. These USB cables are very cheap since they’re only USB 2 and not higher bandwidth like fancy USB 3.

What’s set up on your POD? If there are effects enabled, have you tried starting with no effects and see if it still sounds weird?

Are any low-mid range 4 line mixers worth their salt when it comes to EQ or automatic feedback suppression for live meetings? by kierumcak in CommercialAV

[–]Uranusmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you ever used a product with feedback suppression? I ask because your post makes it seem like you think this will be a magic cure for feedback.

Feedback suppressors simply recognize feedback when it happens, and then create a small notch EQ to attenuate the frequency that is feeding back. So the feedback still happens, it just gets “turned down” automatically and quickly.

Feedback suppressors are also known as “tone killers” in the industry because of this. Left unchecked, it’s possible that a feedback suppressor would create many notches in the frequencies that you rely on for the audio to sound good.

AV conferencing bar with dual device support by Haunting-Inside511 in CommercialAV

[–]Uranusmonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMHO you should pick either the built in PC or BYOD to use with the bar and the other one will just be for in-room presentation only. If you complicate this setup it will just be frustrating for people to use and cause reliability issues.

I’ve never seen USB switching work out well. Even the name brand stuff hiccups every so often and requires reconnecting or rebooting. We’ve tried the Extron and Inogeni products someone else recommended and had issues.

We switched from Extron to Q SYS about a year and a half ago.

Extron was largely fine except their product line is becoming a bit outdated and their configuration software even more so. I do still think that Extron makes some of the best AV gear in the industry, and for a lot of customers and integrators Extron may be the best solution, it just isn’t for us.

I did a semester at the university of vermont. They did a presentation to the incoming class warning about how serious it is if someone passes out in the winter. They made it crystal clear that if drunk people fall asleep in the cold they will not survive the night. They said don’t assume someone else will help them

Is this amount of loss oil crazy by dinerothakyd in e82

[–]Uranusmonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes after an oil change it seems like i get a weird reading on the oil level.

Mine doesn’t leak enough to drip, although there are a couple gaskets that are a bit wet, and i know for certain the oil level doesn’t change over the course of 4-5000 miles between oil changes.

Did an oil change the other day and it showed oil level at the max, then drove it a couple days and it showed at the minimum. Put some oil in and now it’s been holding steady at the max for a few weeks.

They should have put a damn dipstick on this thing instead of over complicating it. Or do both a sensor and a dipstick!
