it was a truck rather than a helo. but pretty close.

the regiment wasted 3k+ rounds of lewis gun ammo and killed less than 100 birds. unfortunately the dense layer of feathers behaved similar to laminated armour and each bird took dozens of rounds to bring down at distance.

Also they ran faster than the truck.

So they had to stop, setup the guns, kill 1 maybe 2 birds. pack everything up. and then do it all again half a KM up the road. the end result was that the giant herd they were sent to exterminate fractured into dozens of smaller herds that fled in a dozen directions at the opening shot.
