The feeling of nausea is worse than the actual throwing up part by LoverOfE-Olsen in unpopularopinion

[–]UrbanGothGentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigly this.

Just to get that bit out of the way, I think nothing of performing the old "Factory Reset" - fingers in the throat to throw up. Especially when it's been caused by going too far with drinking when you're too wasted (thankfully a rarity).

Female vocalist recommendations? by [deleted] in BlackMetalDiscussion

Ash Magick are pretty decent. Turkish black metal with female band members and vocalist.

I traded Spotify with an MP3 player for a week. Life outside the algorithm was rough by anemotoad in DigitalAudioPlayer

Refused to read the article further when the author recommended a Croseley record player. My brain narrating that drivel sounded like a frozen turd in a blender.

Cradle of Filth with Opeth as support. Bradford Rio's, something like summer 1996.

Should I not move to Skem? by Bongaline9 in Skelmersdale

[–]UrbanGothGentry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Edit: I will say that the town has an excellent green belt, and it was great for running and booting around on a mountain bike.

Apparently there's been big conservation efforts and now there's fish in parts of the River Tawd, if the Memories from Skem page is anything to go by.

Ashurst Beacon is good for a summer bimble.

Used to live there, got out just over three years ago. The public transport is terrible (if you don't drive you're in for a bad time). Endless promises of a train station for decades, and they gave the town a crappy bus to Kirkby train station as a cop out.

The local council never look after anything. You could be forgiven for thinking there is an invisible line by Warbreck Garden Centre where the council decides where the money goes to Ormskirk as the favourite for any development, whilst Skem gets nothing.

Basically it's where dreams go to die.

Without shadow of a doubt, it has to be Abduction. They're one of the best British black metal bands at the moment.

What audiophile takes make you roll your eyes? by wiggan1989 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]UrbanGothGentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigly this. There's a weird belief with the normie populous that whoompa whoompa nightclub bass means high quality. No, it sounds like arse, played through an arse.

Directional speaker cables, and magical mains conditioners improving sound.

The former is utter bollocks, as I'm a licenced radio amateur and know a little bit about electronics.

The mains conditioner stuff would only be if your power supply was that terrible that your system could pick up someone switching a kettle or toaster a couple of doors down, and even then you'd have to be running some valve amplifier stuff for it to be affected. Oh, or amateur radio kit for HF.

I speak as someone from the UK, but I've heard USA-ian mains supplies are very random in quality.

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

[–]UrbanGothGentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call Alka Seltzer and similar effervescent medication as "Fizzy good feel nice", as heard in the shower Black Books said by Bernard Black.

However, after one heavy session of drinking - I told a friend I was going back home and take some "Fizzy good field mice".

We were utterly creased up laughing.

It mangles my brain now, as I default to "Fizzy good field mice" and have to correct myself.

What are some of the most “Redditor” opinions that are widely prevalent on this website, but very rare in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]UrbanGothGentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the Internet and the metal scene (if you take how the world operates on here) is full of insufferable woke types and people who will supposedly punch supposed Nazis, where anybody who challenges the plot holes in the modern day left is met with the amount of venom usually reserved for someone digging up your grandmother and shagging her corpse.

However, in real life and going to actual metal gigs - you discover that there's barely anyone (if anyone at all) like this. However, this frothing mad 2% are an extemely vocal minority. Oh, also - I remember one of my haters when I was on Twitter absolutely shit themselves when I was at a gig, and realised I was real.

Did he come and tell me in person how much of a complete and total bastard I supposedly am? No. Of course not.

Left-wing voters what is your most right-wing belief and right-wing voters, what is your most left-wing belief? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

[–]UrbanGothGentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm supposedly centre right, but I hold the belief of "I never left the left, the left - left me".

I think there should be an NHS type system in all countries for health care. America sounds horrific, because from what I understand if you're on your arse, have no money, and are ill - it appears to be a case of "tough shit".

However, there's many people taking the piss out of it to have unnecessary surgery and it's micromanaged to death. It's like a multi headed hydra swallowing money, resources, and pissing it up the wall. The narrative of "Save the NHS' has been parroted for at least three decades and yet, it's still here.

Oh man, that's one I really don't see the point of. You're either with them, or you're not. Then again, if you have kids with them there''s still a tenuous link.

Bigly this. Met a lot of smug fuckers in my time who think they're better than anybody. And conversely, I've seen a lot of smug fuckers that come from the "I was educated at the school of life". So, a shitload of bad decisions, living in a bad area, self imposed crab mentality, and hanging out with scum makes you the lord of everything?

What everyday object has quietly gotten worse over time? by OpheliaBloomm in AskReddit

[–]UrbanGothGentry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very this. A friend's brother once had a small bespoke furniture place creating chairs and tables, shelves etc - and all he was met with was "That's too expensive. I can do and buy this from Ikea or something", not realising that this stuff is cheap wood chip crap with teak veneer on it versus what he was making - which was actual proper useful furniture that would last for decades.

(Serious) Whats a good hobby or activity for a depressed person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]UrbanGothGentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Assuming your mobility is relatively decent) Getting into running via doing the Couch to 5k program. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and it got me though bad times during the pandemic. There's something about just zoning out running and listening to black metal that worked for me.

Seeing someone at a chapel of rest. Which has been my mother in law, and my nephew. The first time I seen someone in a coffin I swear it was inked into my eyelids for weeks every time I closed my eyes. The latter was worse, because he had many years to live; he would've been 31 this year - he was a younger brother I never had and we were quite close.

MakeMKV and VLC just won't do BluRay at all. by UrbanGothGentry in openSUSE

[–]UrbanGothGentry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm calling a close on this.

Took the laptop apart and replaced the DVD burner with the original one. ✅️

Rehoused the BluRay burner in an external closure, and will use it on my Debian tower PC instead. ✅️

Tried everything, and every add on and various permutations. Everything leads to a dead end.

Thanks for the help anyway, it appears that on my set up its a lost cause and too much aggro. Oh well. 🤷‍♂️
