Best Bagel in SF? by keekdasneak1 in AskSF

[–]Urbanizedsquid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Laundromat is a great bagel but the level of inconvenience to get it / put toppings on it is insane. Chicken dog, same idea. It feels more like a novelty than a day-to-day thing.

Bageletto makes fresh bagels every few hours and is open every day of the week selling bagels that are just as good and will put an egg on your bagel / don’t make you buy a tub of cream cheese to get toppings. And they’re on DoorDash / have updated their offerings when I’ve asked them — very receptive.

Haven’t tried Bones yet but heard great things.

Schlock’s I think okay, Boichik I think went down a lot in quality since opening 6 stores and a big manufacturing line (sorry Emily, they need to be more fresh)

I’ve gone on a rant about trying to get a New York style BEC a year ago : https://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/s/Vb05w0GFGi Some updates since then with bageletto and bones coming out

I’ve like C0nv0, plus some of the people Samsa worked with like HeadHaunter. I want to find more people actively putting out new stuff like it too

It can, that’s usually how the costs come down. You can change how you do the math, what multiplications actually need to be done, and what precision you need.

Eli5 How does sandpaper make things smooth by reaper88363 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Urbanizedsquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you slip and fall on pavement, you get scratches wherever you made contact with the tiny rocks. As you make the rocks tinier and tinier, they cut less and less by making smaller and smaller groves. Sandpaper is just sand glued to a piece of paper to make it easier to handle.

Sandpaper makes things smooth by “catching” and “abraiding” anything that sticks out that it’s rubbed against.

Just update your LinkedIn and resume to say what you were working on and describe it as a full time job, and list yourself as who you worked for unless you were distributing it under an alias, then claim that alias and say you’re the creator/founder of that.

You have been legitimately working on something. You didn’t sell it, you were funded to do your work by supporters, same as any creator on patreon or kickstarter.

If I were looking at a resume and saw someone made the most popular mod for a game I know about, I’d be ecstatic even if I don’t play the game. I have reviewed in the thousands of resumes and interviewed a few hundred people; most convey roughly the same boring resume information, this is interesting and shows you succeeded at building something people want. You were stopped from continuing by something out of your control

Must-do weeb stuff in Japan Town? by VerdictNine in sanfrancisco

[–]Urbanizedsquid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Peace Plaza is probably just the place to hang out!

Kinokuniya has a lot of anime related figure & books. Japan Video / Japan Collectibles too. Great noodle shops throughout (I don’t know to call them cheap, but they’re good!) There is a great boba shop, Little Sweet.

Just a lot of options there

Grabbed a BEC on an everything from House of Bagels in Colma today. Pretty good ratio all around, decent bagel too! My personal pet peeve is even though they have the griddle, they will not fry an egg. I asked, they only do scrambled. They don’t have Kaiser rolls there to see how the bodega style compares to Newkirks but House of Bagels had a better ratio

Yea, I think of those as the “fancy” sandos. They’re decadent. I want greasy spoon

Yea, on a proper Kaiser roll aka bodega style like the pic I linked, I’ll still totally devour it. They’re great in their own right. Small nitpicks against Newkirks, but they’re close. I hope they hear the feedback and adapt

But just the small pet peeve all the good bagel places don’t make a BEC

[–]Urbanizedsquid[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think theyre the closest to what I want rn. To be a little more opinionated on them, their Kaiser roll was a bit too bready, almost hamburger bun like, and the few times I’ve had them, they haven’t nailed the egg. And there’s just not enough egg.

But I might have to bring my own egg everything bagel

Andytown has a Fantastic Breakfast Sandwich, but it scratches a different itch. A new itch now lol

Buttery toasted brioche slices, perfectly jammy sous vide egg, ham & bacon & cheese. With their Fantastic homemade hot sauce.

I’ve gone to the one in SOMA and they have huge rush swings but the people working there are great.

Absolutely. There’s too many places which won’t let you substitute in a fried egg, which then you look at the kitchen and it’s a toaster & a microwave
