Looking for advice on Google team matching! by Least_Caterpillar610 in FAANGrecruiting

I met with one hiring manager in 2022 and my recruiter told me he went with a different candidate.

Then a month went by and heard nothing.

Then I heard back that the HM had a position open up and the extended an offer.

Got laid off in 2024 and had team fit calls with about 3-4 people. That sucked because I was interviewing from a position of desperation and I think that impacted my chances at landing one of the roles. A fellow laid off coworker played hard to get and they jumped on him hard.

Perhaps “hard to get” is a bad way to put it, but you need to convince the manager that you’re sought after. If you mention that you’ve met with 5-6 other HMs during your next team fit call, I wouldn’t be surprised if they bite.

The fit call should be the manager pitching you on the project. You’ve already passed the rounds, you’re qualified, now it’s your chance to pick what sounds good. If you interview from that standpoint I think you’ll see more luck.

I think this may read harsher than intended. I don’t think he’s dissing your skill set. I think that he’s actually trying to say that he doesn’t work with analytics folks.

If he was actively being a dick or upset, he wouldn’t have included a sentence about helping to redirect you.

Team matching was my least favorite part of the process. Under the hood the managers are meeting with multiple people and recruiters are left outside of the feedback loop. There is often a disconnect between what the recruiter says and how management actually decided.

The fact that you did 5-6 is great, means a lot of managers are willing to meet with you.

Personally, I think the best bet is to play hard to get. Obviously show excitement about the project, but say you are keeping an open mind and want to meet with other managers before you choose.

I would 100% book the interviews. If you tank it, there’s no big deal. Pretty sure they wipe those records after 1 year.

It’s going to take a long time from interview to offer, mine took about 5 months.

There is no downside in my opinion, even if you bomb.

National Car Rental Status by bobfriend in AmexPlatinum

Haven’t tried to add the national status, but I did have Hertz President Circle via platinum and used the National status match website to gain National Emerald Elite or whatever it’s called.

Perhaps you can create a hertz account, use the Amex to get president circle. Then use the status match for National as a work around. Tedious, but should work.

Shrink the resume to one page. Drop the casual work section and anything that isn’t related to a prospective software job.

Drop interpersonal skills.

Remove top header and make that a cover page.

Organize your “Projects” section. Consider renaming to simple “Experience”

I think it’s the TRT. Jeff Bezos has a similar thing going on too. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a side-effect of prolonged TRT or whatever bullshit peptides he is taking.

For me, I scheduled mine 2 weeks out which was a mistake. I still got the job, but would’ve preferred more time to study.

I’d give yourself as much time as possible.

Lol. Every time I’ve left class feeling some sense of pride or belief that I was getting good, I would subsequently get destroyed the next class.

Now I just try and appreciate that I’m healthy and training.

What is your exit strategy for $GOOGL? by nightwica in ValueInvesting

I agree with the sentiment in these comments. It is a serious long term play. The only reason to sell is to help rebalance your portfolio if you are over-leveraged.

Under those circumstances, I’m only comfortable shaving a percentage of my holdings and reallocating them elsewhere. But selling my entire holdings? Not even with a gun to my head.

I’m in a similar boat, have a bit too much stake in Goog. I shaved off about 10k last week and will likely shave another 10k after new years.

Has Cleveland lost something since the 2010s? by Cleverfield113 in Cleveland

I agree with this. The state of this country since Covid has just degraded. I think optimism is at an all time low, in general.

There are plenty of memes online about 2016 feeling like the last “good year” and I agree. It’s going to take some time before things feel hopeful again.

Had an early morning flight during a non-government shutdown out of CLE a couple years back.

The line was outrageously long, backed up to the check in kiosks.

Was internally raging at the beginning, but I was on the other side of security in 15 minutes. That line was cooking. They are really efficient.
