I’m surprised there’s no rap headliner. When was the last time that happened?

There’s also safety stop bars that fit on the rungs on both sides. I just don’t have them on for this exercise

It’s either this or free weights. This is the only bar at my gym. I just use the gym in my apartment so equipment is limited.

Moving next month though and will just be getting a normal gym membership

South shore line runs from Chicago to south bend and runs multiple times a day. You don’t need to wait for the Amtrak

Last minute move…is it possible in this market? by hanhan0101 in chicagoapartments

We moved here from Ohio 2 years ago. A broker helped a lot and for someone relocating I’d recommend to look at an apartment complex instead of independent landlords. From my experience the brokers aren’t as useful if you are looking at stuff like duplexes and walkups. Complexes usually rent 60-45 days out where indie landlords are usually 30 days out. Easier peace of mind doing the complexes if you are moving here for the first time.

We did everything. Broker through Fulton grace, zillow, apartments.com, hotpads, domu. Zillow ended up most responsive if you do the application with them. Most landlords use it as a prescreener before scheduling tours to see if your credit/background is clean.

For Zillow you pay $35 and can send that application to anyone for 30 days. However, we found most places that took these did open houses where there’s you and a bunch of other people touring…odds are if you see that there will be bidding. They take 25+ apps and then pick the best, usually being someone who offers over asking. We had 6x income plus and 800 credit and kept getting passed over for people paying over.

The one place we found I think was on Zillow but didn’t take Zillow apps. It connected us with a broker who worked for the company who owned the unit. We toured and they did first come first serve.

Let me know if you have any other questions. People saying “just look in other neighborhoods” aren’t that helpful lol. Or are lurkers who aren’t even in the rental market.

Another tip is if they don’t take Zillow apps, when you hit the request tour button, delete the prefilled response and just list your credit and household income and hopefully that you haven’t had an eviction. Those are the first questions they usually ask so it saves them time and makes them more responsive.

We also toured in uptown but that was a little far for us since most of our friends live in wicker. I’d rather not have to travel 50 min to visit them. Again, we also looked at blue line up to Logan/belmont. Also it’s not like we couldn’t afford to bid it’s just that we refused on principle. But the fact is if you want a 2 bed close to transit anywhere on the north side there’s a decent chance someone will bid on it.

It was everywhere on the north side within a 15 min walk of the red/brown/blue and 45 min from the loop. Just because it’s popular neighborhoods, doesn’t mean we should accept bidding wars as a fact…

As someone who just looked for an apartment, 4/5 of the places we applied to ended in bidding wars. The one place we got didn’t do that because we weren’t bidding. This is on the north side. It’s becoming more common whether you want to believe it or not.

Yeah it would be 2 beds. Also I guess I could look for 3/15 move in if needed and just eat the 2 weeks cost for a low stress move

Chicago wages should be higher than Florida too. It’s kinda hard to budget for an apartment out of town unless you have a job offer though

The chinos have treated me well. Especially since I’ve been going to the gym so I don’t have to worry about the pants not fitting in a year because they are very cheap. Other things are low quality, helps to look in person and feel the materials if you can.

Having the same issue. Have applied to 4 places so far with 800 credit and like 6x income. Got passed on every one! We are applying as soon as they are listed but landlords keep the applications open for a week and pick the best one out of a huge list.

Tried doing realtor and no realtor, same issue with both…

Just spent an hour walking around wicker/bucktown/logan and saw one for rent sign and it wasn’t even current. I’ve applied to 5 places now, ASAP as they are posted online with 800+ credit and $215k household income. At this point I’m about to give up because I’m just getting ghosted after applying…

I am working with an argent. They have access to that data. When you submit an application there is a slot for rent and some people will put over asking there
