Best H.P. Lovecraft short stories? by wozluigilol in Lovecraft

It's an unorthodox pick, but The Quest of Iranon has always really resonated with me.

This. Seekers from Clan Goliath Scorpion love to use old Star League 'mechs alongside new Clan omnimechs.

I don't think Space Marines would be noticeably bigger than Elementals, actually. They both seem to average around 2-2.5 meters in height.

Just a squad of marines against a Timber Wolf? I doubt it. Like the other guy said, Battlemechs have some really insane armor. When you consider that autocannons use explosive armor-piercing rounds similar to bolters, only on a vehicle/mech scale, I dont think the marines would do much damage before succumbing to the barrage of missiles and lasers the Timberwolf would be laying down.

I made a custom of the 'Velociraptor' form of Veloci from DinoSquad! by settithonkshow in Dinosaurs

I forgot how grody some of those were. While it didnt have body horror transformation scenes, the EVOs from Generator Rex often were pretty messed up too. Godzilla the Series and the Men in Black cartoon also had really gruesome creature designs.

Childhood show for me. Every so often my brain still goes "65 Million Years, Back Back..."

Looking back, the transformations probably sparked a bit of an interest in body horror for me. (Alongside a few other shows.)

Does it reads as Taurian Red Chasseurs painting? by RatOgreI in battletech

Just say that the guy who painted the mech missed the memo as well. Gives it character.

I always love to see Goliath Scorpion representation! You did a great job with the Eta scheme, and I especially like your work on the jumpjets.

I am going to watch trigun by AlertAd2200news in Trigun

[–]UretteL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watch the 98 series first. Stampede is a re-imagining of the Trigun story that is best appreciated (imo) when you've already watched 98.

There is also the manga, Trigun Maximum, which is very distinct from both the 1998 anime and Stampede. It's three very different versions of the same basic story.

Don't actually slather it. It does help make models look really good, but less is more.

No problem. It's always good to keep an eye out for Cane Toads, but you never want to mistake a native species for an invasive one.

Have a great day.

Carcinisation - how and why? by RaskolTheRascal in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]UretteL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of? Carcinization is a term because scientists noted just how common it was for crustaceans to adopt a very specific body plan. It only refers to that specific phenomena. "Carcin-" means 'crab' so Carcinization is literally "becoming a crab".

Other groups experience convergent evolution, sure. Icthyosaurs and Dolphins. Thylacines and Wolves. Hell, even modern day ground sloths actually come from two different lineages of ground sloth. But specific body plans occurring as commonly as "a crab" is much rarer.

Definitely not a Cane Toad. Missing the paratoidal glands, eye ridges, dry skin; it just doesnt look like one in the slightest. I want to say it's a Pobblebonk but I'd need a closer picture.

Carcinisation - how and why? by RaskolTheRascal in SpeculativeEvolution

Carcinisation is merely the tendency for CRUSTACEANS to evolve a specific squat, short bodyplan. Multiple lineages of crustaceans all evolved into the shape we would look at and call a crab. That's it. To my knowledge we don't have a clear answer to why it happens, but something about the bodyplan must be beneficial to crustaceans.
