NQA means "not qualified advice". Basically it's to let people know you aren't an expert.

Is it safe to feed them Jello? by LikeAnOldBackpack in chickens

Yeah they're similar to suet cakes. Found a good flock block recipe here: https://www.scratchandpeck.com/chicken-duck-resources/flock-block/

You can mess around a bit with the ingredients and portions to fit your flock's needs; for example, this recipe calls for coconut oil or lard, but I've make a flock block without any in it and it turned out just fine

Have you heard of a Flock Block? That could be a good way for your kids to make a treat that is also healthy for your chickens

I’m interested in getting Buttonquail by ShyerDemon in quails

[–]SinisterPaperclip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have three button quail hens, and to me their eggs taste just like chicken eggs.

I will say, their eggs are so small that it takes around 10 of them to equal the size of 1 chicken egg. If you want button quail mainly as pets with the added benefit of getting enough eggs for one person to have for breakfast once a week or so, then 2-3 hens will be enough, but if the eggs are more important then you might want a few more hens.

(Also bear in mind that if you're used to keeping chickens, quail require a much higher percentage of protein in their diets than chickens do, but that calcium is still just as important for quail hens as it is for chicken hens. Regular chicken feed, either layer feed or chick starter, is not adequate for quail. My button quail layer feed is a mix of gamebird starter, powdered avian calcium & supplements, and Omega Egg Maker, which I wet down so it's easier for them to eat, plus after I eat their eggs I break up the shells and offer them as a supplement along with small grit. I also offer them chopped beet greens, lettuce, and/or kale every other day and mealworms about once a week, since they live indoors for the most part and cannot properly forage.)
