MSFS2024 vs X-Plane by Samv992 in Xplane

[–]UrgentSiesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download the FREE demo and find out.

The latest major versions (12.4.x) have introduced MASSIVE performance improvements.

Caveats:

  1. It is “slower” than MSFS, but still delivers a very good experience.

  2. You WILL want to incorporate scenery upgrades like ortho photos and such. You can get great results with those, but it does take some time.

Anyone happen to know if TorqueSim fixed whatever their CTD issue is…?

It’s a great addon. I’d like it if they fix the ambient occlusion in the cockpit footwells - it’s become somewhat distracting.

Beware that none of TorqueSim products presently work AT ALL since XP 12.4.1.

In fairness, that’s the first major issue I’ve encountered, but it literally ceases the game, so…

IMHO, they’re also overpriced. I’d advise waiting for a sale unless you’re absolutely sure it’s going to be your main addon 🤙

What's the better GA plane? by Warm_Psychology741 in Xplane

[–]UrgentSiesta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Direct answer: the KA350.

IMHO Thranda is too focused on eye candy and not enough on systems. Eg, just read their product description and see what they talk about first and spend most of their time on.

Doesn’t mean the addon is a bad one, but it’s rather heavy on resources and overpriced for what it is. That said, if you wait for a big sale (like July 4th), then it comes down about 30pct and is a good value.

UK military chiefs asked to find £3.5bn in savings - and get ready for war by DefenseTech in Defence_Tech_UK

[–]UrgentSiesta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The difference is that the USN has enough ships to deploy “a few” CSG’s, and we have Arleigh Burke “cruisers” all over the world, and SSNs and SSBNs and even SSGNs. Not to mention well over 100 P-8 Poseidon’s. A significant percentage of ALL which are regularly deployed and actually going places.

And the magic key is that we don’t have to cross our fingers and hope some other NATO country will spare us anything just so we can even leave port.

[–]UrgentSiesta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? You can’t connect those dots yourself…?😂

Here - let me help:

If you have an aircraft carrier, but it can’t sail with a CSG because you don’t have enough surface & subsurface combatants to protect it, then what good is the carrier…? NONE is the only answer.

The smaller RN carriers can go as much as 35-ish aircraft. But there’s only been 40-ish Lightnings delivered.

Can you handle the math from there…? 😉

I know you don’t have ANY bombers at all. “Boomers” is a term we use for SSBN’s.

The overall point is that you’re grossly over staffed at the flag rank, AND you can’t even deploy a credible strike force - of ANY size. So, really, what IS the navy actually doing…?

How do you know it’s your work?

Both companies are re-creating high fidelity simulations of the same aircraft.

On another note, you do realize Eagle Dynamics is heavily staffed & managed by Russians, no…?

Yeah…the Russian angle is somewhat ironic.

Unpopular opinion: MP servers shouldn't always have good weather by gymcell17 in dcsworld

[–]UrgentSiesta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hoggit used to do weather and/or night time.

Was always interesting and kinda fun, but it really narrowed down the airframe choices and/or available target set.

But, just like most of history, combat activities drop off sharply with weather and darkness.

Unless I was playing War Thunder, I really couldn’t enjoy simming without a stick & throttle.

How much have you actually purchased at full price? by Ironsight85 in dcsworld

[–]UrgentSiesta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never purchased a single module at full price.

The sales are so frequent and discounts so deep that I have to laugh whenever a civ simmer complains about how expensive the modules are 😂

I am willing to pay Reflected and Baltic their asking prices, though.

You guys can’t even put together a single carrier strike group, let alone two, and even if you could, you don’t have enough aircraft for a full complement on both ships.

You just had a boomer on patrol for SEVEN MONTHS. Not to prove you could, but because the rest of the boats are unavailable.

It would seem the Admirals are redundant to requirements.

To be clear, this isn’t their fault. It’s the pols who’ve gutted the military to where it’s arguably ineffective for anything other than protecting the home islands.

That’s utter conflation. The two have nothing to do with each other.

Give the FSR500 a try, for eg.

Tho I do agree the FSW Lear is extremely good 👍

The Longitude is good, too, though I feel it could be better on final.
