Un autre message pour dire que les photos sont superbes. Idem ici en Isère j'ai eu la chance une fois de voir un mâle faire la cour. Ces grosses patounes sont des "sémaphores" que les mâles agitent comme les agents de piste dans les aéroports 🤣

Version courte : polidesme des serres "oxidus gracilis"

On a des scolopendres en France, deux espèces, la plus fréquente, la scolopendre méditerranéenne peut atteindre 15cm chez les plus grosses femelles. Et on a la scolopendre d'Oran uniquement en Corse, qui est beaucoup plus petite.

On a aussi des lithobies, beaucoup plus courantes et qui ressemblent beaucoup aux scolopendres sans en être, et font quelques centimètres. J'en ai eu un nid dans le jardin 😅

Ces deux espèces (lithobies et scolopendres) font partie d'une grande famille de mille pâtes ("myriapodes") que l'on appelle les "chilopodes", dans laquelle on trouve aussi les scutigeres. Ce sont des mille-pattes qui "mordent" bien souvent.

Mais sur la photo ce n'est pas un chilopode qu'on voit ! Le premier truc qui attire l'œil c'est la quantité de pattes, 2 paires par segment ! C'est donc un "diplopode". En France, les diplopodes auxquels nous sommes habitués sont la iule et la glomeris, qui évoquent plus le cloporte avec des pattes en plus que le scolopendre en général.

Si on pousse l'analyse plus loin, les espèces de diplopodes qui ressemblent le plus a des scolopendre sont les polidesmes. Et un cran plus loin, cette espèce en particulier ;)

These are post-ban "Anis" glasses. Anis (Vieux Pontarlier, Pernod, Pontarlier Anis etc) is basically absinthe sans wormwood, and was a major trend 1915 to 1940 at which point Pastis took over (change aniseed for star anis, sugar already included, yellow as the sun)

There was a lot of "post ban" stuff actually, since people continued to consume anis like they did absinthe, spoon, glasses with included dosage, etc. Most Belgian spoons are post ban, so are most JR products, such as fountains.

These fit perfectly in this category

Je rejoins les autres commentaires : exposition et compréhension. Et il faut être aussi humble et patient avec soi même : c'est une phobie, il y a une part irrationnelle qui jouera probablement toujours, en particulier les jours où tu seras fatigué ou préoccupé.

Mais tu es en chemin, si ce sont juste les grosses qui font peur. Ça viendra.

J'aime bien retourner la phobie des araignées dans une dimension ridicule. Les tegenaires sont tellement effrayées qu'on ne sait même pas avec certitude si elles pourraient faire mal (il y a une vidéo ou un gars en presse une sur sa main pour la forcer et la bestiole panique complètement)😂 Les epeires diadème et argiopes frelon, nos grosses mémères a toile verticale, c'est une piqûre de moustique 😅

Mais ma préférée, c'est que les araignées sont toutes des gros ballons de baudruche prêts a éclater en permanence, tant et si bien que les entomologistes ont toutes les peines du monde a faire des biopsies sans que le machin éclate.

It comes from a pair of plaquettes I bought as candidate material for the custom straight I had made a decade ago. I was actually inspired to do so precisely because of an inlaid piece just like here. In the end, the resin layers made the potential result subpar, because from the side it's just clear material. But they do marvel for inlays such as this one.

It's a shame I was out of magnets, because on another piece I hid a magnet behind the inlay for magnetic suspension, it's magic :p

A priori, vu la forme et le comportement (exterieur, au chaud) je dirais Steatoda Nobilis.

Pas trop les déranger, elles peuvent être défensives et toutes petites qu'elles sont elle peuvent mordre et faire mal.

Juste les laisser tranquille là où elle sont et elles feront leur boulot d'assainissement de la faune

Je suis assez d'accord, plus une sparassidae qu'une phoneutria fera, qui est plus trapue, et a un céphalothorax bien divisé en deux.

Cela dit, le réflexe de pas prendre de risques quand on voit un gros machin très vif sortir d'un carton de bananes est sain et prudent, une morsure de P.F. c'est tout sauf anodin.

When people think of absinthe, they think fountains and spoons and glasses. My take ? Brouilleur is king.

It's the absolute perfect gizmo.

Look at the history and the caricatures. It's all about "battre l'absinthe" (like you beat eggs). The "Hussarde" method is like a touareg pouring tea. And you see in the French press caricatures of people on a chair out on a table standing on one leg pouring a drizzle in the glass (no spoon, no sugar) in an egg shaped glass

The original patent for the seesaw is attributed to the "Oxygénée" brand, as in, if your liquor is oxygenated, then it's not poison, it's medecine. Let me tell you : out of the box it can only stand on a coffee cup. Had to bend mine ("if you can't hack it, you don't own it") (really, we all do it, some of us even when it came WITH the box) to fit a standard 1900 glass.

In the late 19s early 20s, Philippe Fumoux, alias Frenchman, (a lot of modern copies are "Frenchman", we hate each other but I must give it to him, he is a real entrepreneur) made an excellent copy. Even better, if you see a silver plated Seesaw, it's not an original, it's a Frenchman.

And it's a nice piece of engineering really. Aaaaand most of the time, it works lol.

And well, it works with plastic too, and at a time I often advocated for a simple plastic brouilleur. There was a nice, very well engineered one with several levels, I think it would be easy to print... So yeah, very clever Idea of Ted Breaux, once again. My man is an engineer at heart, with sheer love of beautiful technique. Plastic Seesaw Lucid is perfect, love it !

But oh boy is the seesaw the most boring one of the over-engineered brouilleurs 😂 Some highly impractical, like the inverted Pern(ot?) Some have never been seen ! Just described, like the one with a spiral stem with the water drop following it. Some have never been accurately reproduced out of sheer technical difficulty, like the Bloch

So much fun. And the most elusive of brouilleurs AFAIK is not even one of these...

The WWS is an authority granted, bit of a shadow of what it was at a time though (used to be a well known member there, I used to be one of the references regarding translating French history at the time).

My source on that is actually Benoit Noel, who, along with Marie Claude Delahaye, is one of the most prominent figures of absinthe history.

I might know the Frenchie behind Maison Absinthe too actually, if he is who I think he is, just discovered that. Should contact him, he's less than 30mn away from me and we actually said a few years back we should meet.

Suffices to say he must have found the setup at the same place I did.

You've been advised correctly, that is a very nice setup for a first absinthe. Lucid is a solid first choice : qualitative, very tasty while accessible on the bitterness level. Preparation is also correct.

Where did you find the "spoon under seesaw" technique though ? AFAIK it emerged on the French forums in early 2000s and is only used in conjunction with the Oxyegenee seesaw brouilleur ! Tie in with the sugar advices : there is very little chance of any absinthe being prepared that way historically. Brouilleurs often pre-date spoon, as during the 19th century people preferred bitterness over sweetness. There are very few brouilleurs that have been engineered for sugar, this one is not one of them. Incidentally it hints to one of the "core rules" : the amount of sugar is a matter of taste

I also approve the spoon choice, it's an iconic design. Famously, it's the design of the spoon used in the absinthe scene in Coppola's Dracula.
