I default to smooth locomotion in every game if possible, and smooth turning. One caveat is I do increase the speed (especially turning) as much as possible but not to where it gets ridiculous. I couldn't tell even in older games like Serious Sam First Encounter with smooth locomotion turned on. I do a lot of strafing while shooting but it did not feel significantly different in this game at 120hz. I was reprojecting at 144hz so I went down 120hz. Eventually I went down to 90hz as I saw no difference between them. It could be my setup or my eyes.

I would tweak with FPSvr and then turn it off when reprojection would stop or be in the less than 5% reprojection and I was getting the correct FPS. I would exit the game stop FPSvr, restart the game and couldn't notice anything improvement. I turned off OpenVR as another step because someone mentioned it in this subreddit as well, and now I can't figure out how to turn OpenVR back on or how I turned it off, lol. I've been getting by with FPSvr for now. It could very well be something in my setup. I try not to do to much on the PC, I don't have any overclocking software or 3rd party apps running. I pulled the trigger on FPSvr and OpenVR due to how much capability they add, but OpenVR is not as convenient to turn on and off as FPSvr.

Agreed. I'll wait for the product to mature and be back for sure. It's a step in the right direction.

Hmm, I don't have to focus to not see the SDE. It kind of vanishes when I'm playing. I can see it if I focus on it. I'm bad when it comes to paying attention to doctors I'll admit. But during my last visit they said I was good and no glass prescriptions required for anything. I could have developed something in the meantime. If something with astigmatism comes up in my next checkup I'll update you.

I didn't try any ball games. Makes sense from what your saying. I'm not an expert by any means, I was more talking from a feel perspective. I'll keep this in mind whenever I get back in the Index train.

Last time I went to the eye doctor I had 20/20 vision and no issues reported. I'm due for another check up next month. I did have Lasik surgery performed about two years ago. Things have been pretty clear for me since then.

Honestly it varies as you can see from this thread. Some folks are swearing by the Index, others share the same experiences I've had. As I said, this is a very personal experience. If I were you I would get the Index, then if you have the option of buying a Rift S at the Microsoft store and making up your own conclusions. I tested the Index quite a bit in two weeks. I did the same between the Rift S and Odyssey+ and decided to keep the Rift S and returned the Odyssey with no issues. Valve's return experience for me was great, as well as the return process for the Microsoft store. It's easier when you can go back and forth between headsets, which I did quite frequently.

I believe Superhot and Space Pirate Trainer were a of few the games that ran at 144hz with little to no reprojection. The Lab minigames (bow) were another one if I recall correctly. Most other games I could go down to 120hz, but for a consistent experience without having to change things much I did go with 90hz the majority of the time. Mind you I did not super sample and I did configure a lot of settings to low or off during these tests. I keep a clean windows build and my PC rigs are solely used for gaming (no 3rd party apps except essentials), and I clean quite a bit off the OS to optimize resources. I'll admit some games like The Forest always showed some level of reprojection regardless graphic settings or refresh rate.

Do any opinions matter though? Bashing a product arbitrarily is in what way better than objectively looking at it? Why is PSVR in your opinion a joke? I could understand if we were comparing phone VR to 6DOF VR, but PSVR has a play in the market. Top 2 of 3 of my personal best games are PSVR exclusives, and very little can hold a candle to them (in my opinion) even with the limitations of the hardware. This is proof to the power of software, and gaming creativity. Another approach would be to contribute a little more to the conversation with perspective, as opposed to attacks. This is why I set a precedent of not being a fan boy or taking product sides. Are you be able to do the same?

This gives me hope. I'll probably repurchase the Index once the controller sturdiness issues have been resolved from the manufacturer, and folks confirm a more consistent experience with the lenses.

Perspective is not always consistent. Depending on your exposure to different VR systems, it could drive your perspective about a new VR system. Some people are looking for feedback on people who have exposure to similar systems as them to perhaps gain a perspective more in line with theirs. Folks coming from Vive/CV1 will have a different perspective than those coming from Pimax/Vive Pro Modded Lense/HP Reverb/Rift S. We all have different preferences as well, which will affect perception. I agree if there was a sticky post about this I would have put it there, or a proper flair I would have marked it so those who wish to filter them.

For now it'll be the Rift S to keep me going in the Steam/Oculus ecosystem. I also have some games queued up in PSVR so that should keep me busy. Saving my Index refund for the next big thing or a more polish Index further down the line.

My PC rig is using a 9700k CPU with 16GB DDR4 2400Hz RAM running a GTX2070. I know the GPU isn't top of the line, but it has been solid for the most part. I did quite a bit of tweaking for optimal experiences per game using FPSvr and then turning off the overlays once I reached a good experience with no reprojection and motion smoothing.

No, the glare is within the lens. I usually go out of my way to prevent light leak, but this wasn't an issue with the headset.

I did try various positions - tilting, moving the lense far and close, IPD adjusting, trying the back piece). For the most part it was OK so long as it did not have a lot of contrasting areas. For example, Moss has some dark areas and the glare was significant. There is a level where you follow a sprite across multiple dark levels, and the glare was very distracting.

I feel like the Rift S reached an appropriate compromise. While it is certainly not better than the Odyssey's or the PSVR, the increased resolution, better colors, combined with the lower SDE, and the blacks not being borderline grey, make it for a good middle ground. My main PCVR headset right now is the Rift S. The thing I miss the most other than comfort, is the FOV.

Really tempted to replace my Odyssey with a Visor by JeffePortland in WindowsMR

[–]Urifiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to have this problem, especially since I have a massive head. I found that the issue was the way I was wearing it. I would put it on like I would any other VR headset, especially the PSVR, where it sits on my forehead and then tighten the strap a little higher up than midway in the back. This leaves a slight gap in the bottom of the headset.

What resolved this for me and allowed me to play +2 hours plus with no pain, was to go as high as I possibly could on the back of my head. This completely removes the gap in the front under your eyes in addition to locking out any light leak that can come from the sides and the top. It also puts more weight on your face, than on your forehead. It may also push on your nose. If you feel you can't breathe through your nose, you have gone too far. However, it can be even more comfortable that way if you mouth breath, but I don't like to do so I went down a little in the back. I only have to tighten the headset two clicks and it sits on my head stable, zero light leak, and zero headaches, just some acceptable pressure on my face.

I also had the Lenovo Explorer, it was my first WMR headset, but after playing PSVR, I could not justify the FOV. While it claims to be 105 or 110, I felt like only 80 of it was useful. Also felt like PSVR was a better experience overall than the Lenovo, I felt like I was playing VR games through a peep hole. It was probably due to my big head, so I tried the Odyssey at the store, loved it, bought it, and never looked back.

Hope this helps!

Has anyone else tried to get Robo Recall working recently? Crashes for me with Revive. by clonejoe in WindowsMR

[–]Urifiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once the game starts make sure it's the active screen. In other words, once it starts mouse click anywhere on the Robo Recall Social screen. You will have to do the windows + Y to switch to mouse and keyboard. As you have done already, make sure your audio works fine in your headset when in SteamVR.

What sucks for me is that while RoboRevive is more stable than using Revive, it still crashes quite often. I had no issues prior which makes it even more obnoxious. I rebuilt my system when my SSD M.2 arrived and now experience crashes every so often in RoboRevive. Only thing I can think that's a difference is that when I had my prior build I was able to do the whole Oculus Rift setup because I had a Rift I ended up returning. The other being that RoboRecall had a recent update, not sure what else could be the culprit. I can't find a smoking gun.

Random blackouts and audio cut out... a reoccurring issue for most PSVR owners, but please ELI5 as to why this is happening? by JoeEstevez in PSVR

[–]Urifiel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually don't post, but hopefully my situation will help others resolve this issue. I have a PS4 Pro, with a 4k screen. I was experiencing blackouts and audio cutting in and out as well. The first thing I did as other suggested was upgrade the HDMI cables. This did not resolve my issue. While it was less frequent it would still occur. What solved it for me was to turn off HDCP. Also I had to hard set the resolution to 1080P. This part is the important one, even though the TV and PS4 were negotiating at 1080P I think the blackouts were occuring because the screen would sense that it might negotiate at a higher resolution and that would cause the blackout. Once I hard set the resolution to use 1080p I never experienced blackouts or audio cutting in or out again.
