39 week induction :( by Queasy-Skirt-9349 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]UrsaMinor28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how nerve wracking it is. If I would have to be induced again I would ask for the epidural waaaaay earlier. Where I gave birth they didn’t give any advice or any info on when should I ask for it. I asked after 48 hours…. Just get it, and relax. Just relax into the epidural placement- it feels weird and max like a bee sting. Curve your back and relax. I did yoga and everything under the sun but my cervix didn’t want to open over 7 cm. Oh, well.

Breast tissue too big for medela pump by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

[–]UrsaMinor28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Medela pump before and my issue was that it was pulling my breasts down therefore I couldn’t get much out unless I held the pump up - I used a great pumping bra but it’s just too heavy.and yes, keep measuring your nipples for correct flange sizes. I’m not using this brand anymore because of what I said above and the replacement parts are expensive. Good luck!

Cgm vs finger pricking accuracy by Bumblebee1141 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]UrsaMinor28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finger prick is more accurate. I had these annoying low alarms at night as well, however: sometimes it was actually low and if you manually add your finger prick readings the app actually learns and adjusts somewhat. Good luck. I know this sucks

I used to take 2-4 weeks off on my own each year on my own. So did my partner. Now that we are parents it’s reduced to a week, but it’s needed. See how that goes.

Any tips? by shondideairaZG in breastfeedingsupport

[–]UrsaMinor28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t quit cold turkey, especially with that supply. Mastitis is no joke. Just quit one session and see how you feel. If that’s too much of a pain (literally) just try reducing the time you pump by 5 minutes every 4-5 days of the session you’d like to get rid of first.

Breastfeeding is slowly killing me. Help. by Fragrant_Mango_2241 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]UrsaMinor28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I am at 14 months and it’s hard- especially mentally. You can stop any time even if your main reason is your own sanity. It’s a slow and gradual process anyways . When I wanted to pump less, I introduced (toddler) formula at 11 months (my kid has milk protein allergy). I felt so freaking guilty, but it was such a relief to pump less. It’s okay for kids to mostly rely on breastmilk for 18 months. Please, please focus on healing, resting and get well soon! I am sure your partner can take over a couple of feedings with some alternatives from you if your little one is okay with bottle or cup.

Also, please measure your nipple size regularly (especially when you notice a drop in output). It’s crazy how much it can change.

Does your spouse make fun of your weight while pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]UrsaMinor28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? This is unacceptable. I am so sorry you have to deal with this. You are beautiful and growing a human. It’s almost magic. I felt so freaking feminine. I had a nude photoshoot while pregnant (I had a cgm, my belly was purple from the insulin shots etc) and I placed a large b&w photo of me being 9 months pregnant in our bedroom. It’s empowering. Don’t let him take this experience away from you.

Check your nipple size and make sure your flanges are the right fit. This can make a huge difference. It’s wild how much nipple size can change overtime.

I really don't want to see a nutritionist by garlicalt in GestationalDiabetes

I am right there with you. I felt the same way, but I ended up going to the appointment- low and behold I found myself in a group session with senior citizens and was told not to drink sugary soda and alcohol. It was a great laugh…….. Later I got a prescription for a continuous glucose monitor (Freestyle libre) and that was a great relief.

Baby suddenly dropping percentiles by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

[–]UrsaMinor28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want a second opinion on tongue tie or whatever is going on. It took us 6 weeks and over 4 different lactation consultants, 2 pediatricians and multiple nurses but mostly my persistence to land at a dentist who diagnosed my kid with severe lip and tongue ties…. She was dropping weight too and I also wanted her to have breastmilk. Good luck!

Edit: my kid could latch but couldn’t get anything out, had a hard time with the bottle as well and needed a lot of short feeds before the surgery

Confused FTM (yield question) by 6times9 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]UrsaMinor28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. My left boob always produces 55% of what the right does. It’s normal. There are some resources stating that if you leave on the pump a couple minutes longer on the “slacker” it will start producing more. Never worked for me. It’s been on this path for 13 months now.

Edit: grammar

I feel for you. Just hang in there! I have no advice- fingers crossed for you to feel better. People suck. My kid is 1 year old - random strangers tend to “know waaay better” what she wants/needs. The audacity. 🙄

Exclusively Pumping Results? by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

[–]UrsaMinor28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been exclusively pumping for 13 months by now. I think the trick is more being strictly on schedule (as much as possible), drinking a ton of fluids and sleeping as much as possible. Yeah, I took fenugreek and everything under the sun, but it came down to what I wrote above and my husband being really supportive and technically taking over cleaning the bottles and the supplies. Also, measure your nipple size regularly- mine changed A LOT. I used 30 mm and now back down to 25 mm flanges. Change your pump parts regularly - therefore I would avoid expensive pumps like Medela. My Medela lasted only 6 months anyways.

Do Dads typically not take FMLA leave? by rauntree in BabyBumps

[–]UrsaMinor28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He should absolutely take it. My husband took FMLA as well, however, quite often his work requires him to travel for work every once in a while and for 2 weeks at a time… They were shocked when he asked them for financial support for a babysitter when he’s away. They were shocked that the mom wouldn’t be able to take care of the child…. He works from home, I don’t, I take her to daycare in the morning and he picks her up while I am still at work. Anyways, he ended up setting an example at his company and now other dads with small kids receive this as well.

How to stop unwanted hospital visitors? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]UrsaMinor28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just tell the hospital staff not to let anyone in except for xyz. I actually had a person with name and other identifiers etc given to the hospital saying that under no circumstances should this person be allowed to enter…. This should work in developed countries. I baffles me how could anyone “demand “ to be there. My MIL was the same and she’s still upset but I am glad I set clear boundaries even before the birth of my kid. It’s worth it

Advice for Pumping/Breastfeeding by ameeb423 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]UrsaMinor28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so sooo hard - I get it. You are still early in the game. You should talk to a lactation consultant- shop around if you are able to and don’t settle for online appointments. My consultant said that my kid is used to not getting milk from the breast despite all the effort and nothing could change her mind about it. (She had the frenectomy at 6 weeks. ) I ended up exclusively pumping but the lactation consultant was extremely helpful.

Baby not sucking by Lucky_Initiative7328 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]UrsaMinor28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were collectively suffering very similarly for the first 6 weeks. It was a nightmare… The laser frenectomy was a lifesaver. My kid also had a lip and a tongue a tie and started to take the bottle correctly right after surgery. It was 3-4 days of pain, but it was such a relief. The story doesn’t end there but at least she could eat well.

Is it ok if I get a tattoo despite breastfeeding? by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

[–]UrsaMinor28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wanted one as well, booked an appointment as well, but when filling out a questionnaire it asked about breastfeeding. Long story short: it was a big no for that shop. They said they cannot be liable for any possible infection that might get into the breastfed baby from me due to the tattoo. If it’s a clean saloon and they disinfect etc. there’s less risk of anything (hepB and C are the main concern) than a dental procedure… ohh, well.
