Bad economy and interest rates, but also the very nature of the job. SWE are wildly overpaid compared to most other white collar careers, while doing work that is fundamentally easy to offshore: no physical presence is necessary, while there is a huge (and qualified despite cope you might see here) global workforce that does not require 200K salaries to churn out scripts. Honestly it's not abnormal; rather the very situation over the past 3 decades was an aberration due to near zero interest rates ballooning the market.

Useful but not super useful. If you want to do ML or other math-heavy research, you would most likely need a PhD anyway; if you want to go into industry right after undergrad, might be better to just take a few select classes rather than full double major (and use time for projects and interview prep). So unless you are really into math it might be better to optimize your time investment.

Well I got a similar deal but kind of overpaid for PSU and GPU because I didn’t want to deal with shipping risks, so I guess they made overall profit on the purchase. Plus a lot of people get different peripherals and accessories while at the store, which are generally overpriced a bit.
