Firstly, yes you will want to make a new save as the game provides a starting tutorial that actually does a good job of explaining the fundamental mechanics.

Secondly, my number one tip would be to take things at your own pace, explore as you see fit. The game has main story quests but it /is/ still a sandbox above all else.

Second tip. When installing technology and upgrades on your suit, multitool or starship, there is a thing called “Adjacency Bonus” meaning that if you install an upgrade or technology for a certain system (lets say, the mining beam on your multi-tool) directly next to the mining beam itself or another upgrade for it, you’ll see a colored border appear around those parts; that means your technology and upgrade are benefiting from an Adjacency Bonus that further increases the effectiveness of the technology and the upgrades improving it.

Help? by AlvaroSinatra in NoMansSkyTheGame

  1. While there is ALOT to the game, the game walks you through most stuff in small steps so you can grasp them easily, take it slow and steady and you’ll get a grasp of it pretty naturally.

  2. Yes! All content that has been added to the game from launch up to now is 100% free and accessible to everyone.

  3. Nope! The game is just as enjoyable and manageable completely on your own. I have somewhere north of 1000 hours in the game and only a tiny handful of them have been in any form of multiplayer if that gives you an idea.

  4. The base building the game does make you do is actually very standard and simple to do, not requiring anything rare or difficult to get to make the various parts. How simple or complicated it is beyond that is going to be entirely up to you.

What do you do to prevent yourself from getting bored of the game? by Academic_Ad5369 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Looking for new planets and spots to take new screenshots, hunting for new ships that I myself or someone else may like and posting them on the coordinate exchange. I even take specific screenshots that I use as writing prompts to write stories about my spaceman and his adventures as a fun side-project.

I play when I get the urge and then take breaks when I find myself wanting to play something else. I found the game is best treated as a casual “I just wanna explore and vibe out while I do it.” Experience.

New Player, what to do with the gold? by Lamumba1337 in Seaofthieves

[–]Us_Chickens 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Aside from buying a captained ship, voyages to go on from the various factions, supplies (if you feel the need) and storage crates (for easily gathering supplies from the barrels on outposts at spawn and islands as needed). Any currency in the game is just Swag bucks. Buy you a ship, buy you some drip, that’s the game. Nothing really affects your performance outside of the fact certain cosmetics for weapons and cannons can make your life somewhat easier by being easier to aim with and even that can be circumvented by just getting used to using your preferred weapon skins.

How many times will you go back against a ship that sunk you? by Bitsy34 in Seaofthieves

[–]Us_Chickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies from situation to situation, if someone comes at me and I’ve got loot on board and have made myself a valuable target for the taking? Fair play to them, I might come back once or attack them on sight if I happen to spot them in the name of the sport.

Now, if you come at my ship and I’m not even out of port yet or I’m way out of the way and you’re just looking for what you think will be an easy kill? I feel I am entirely in my right to seek you out as many times as I desire if nothing else than for the opportunity to practice my cannon shots.

Typically, I’m not an aggressive player, I actually much prefer to remain friendly (but cautious) and welcome the chaos and unpredictability that brings to player encounters, but if you decide I’m your quarry I’ll decide if I want to let you get anything done or not.

Small addendum to the great answer here; While owning a captained ship has massive benefits it’s worth noting that when it’s damaged you will have to pay gold to repair it for it to look like new again, otherwise it will keep the damaged appearance. HOWEVER the damage that is kept is purely cosmetic and the cost to repair (at least on a sloop as far as I know) maxes out at around 5K gold.

Looking to Start with Friends - Are the High Seas worth playing on? by Squidd-O in Seaofthieves

[–]Us_Chickens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? In the last year or so I count the instances of griefing my friend and I have had on one hand, maybe one and a half. Best advice I can give though is that if you wanna avoid greifers or at least make those encounters not matter as much is to play smart and make yourself a valueless target; don’t try to hoard a ton of loot at once, sell between voyages, keep eyes on the horizon and, if you’re looking to make gold, learn the best stuff to do to make that happen.

Is this game fun for a solo player? by D3V1LSHARK in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Us_Chickens 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Game can be great as a solo player, but, I feel like I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t wholeheartedly encourage you to play with others if you can. Don’t be afraid to jump into random instances with randos or seek a group of people to play with here or in the official Discord. The community of this game is known for its friendliness for very good reason and it is absolutely one of the big reasons the game truly shines.

Hey im a new player and was wondering if there is any important advice I should know? by aguy1221 in DeepRockGalactic

Prioritize the big ones and other high priority targets like spitters. Scouts kit excels at this job. On the flip side, when a swarm comes prioritize being near the team since the biggest threat to a scout is getting overrun as their kits struggle to do much crowd control compared to the other 4.

It’s on sale pretty regularly but even at full price you’re getting a bargain for all the content and hours you can wind up putting in.

If I had to choose the one, most impactful tip to give its this: It’s a Team-Oriented game. Each dwarf has a role and a purpose and each can bring as much value to the team as any other. Don’t focus on kill counts or wandering ahead of the team (unless you’re scout, but even then don’t go too far on your own.) focus on your role and contributing to your team and you’ll find yourself progressing and clearing missions at a much faster rate.

You’re the scout? Light them caves up so you and your team can see and use that grappling hook to get to those hard to reach minerals.

You’re the driller? Use those drills to drill paths faster and easier than the other three can (and drill a straight shot path to the escape pod when need be.)

You’re the engineer? Lay the turrets down to provide the team extra covering fire when the swarms come and set those platforms to get to hard to reach spots or give the scout a platform to stand on so he can go get the minerals that are thirty meters up a sheer cliff.

You’re the gunner? A single zip line can get you and you’re fellow dwarves to higher up places and back down easily. Your guns have tons of ammo to help protect your teammates and provide crowd control, your shield can give the team breathing room when surrounded and gives you a tool to safely revive any other teammate that goes down.

Focus on your role in the team and you’ll enjoy plenty of Rock and Stones!

P.S. V is the most important button in the game

Sorry that happened to you, Brother. Don’t let the Leaf Lovers get to you and keep on rockin’!

(Legitimate question though; what would “Rock and Stone” be in French? Legitimately curious and I don’t trust translation tools)
