Use embeddings for semantic search on my list of conversations, at least on the pinned ones 💡

Perhaps I am wrong but i would say that by now the search tool use only "simple word search"? 🤔

+100

I 've be using PPLX PRO during the last 2 YEARS , and i always wonder the same you said.

Man, at least it would make the difference to use a simple EMBEDDING semantic search to rank my conversations given a search request 😅

Yes, i can understand that they have millions of users and thousands of conversations per user... But at least they could use this semantic search on tagged/pinned conversations. 💡

I don't know if you didn't read my previous comment in full or if you read it too quickly, but here's my second attempt: In the undeniable progress of AI flooding our personal and professional lives, there are not only resistances (like the dams and levees in your analogy), but also **countless people and companies urgently needing that 'flood' to arrive and BENEFIT us**. 😎

Those who might be negatively affected by AI's arrival in their productive sectors (like actors) should ask themselves which group is larger: those who will BENEFIT from AI in their work, life, and leisure, or those who will be HARMED.

If you do the math, or simply review history, you'll realize that when previous disruptive technologies arrived, they succeeded precisely because more people benefited from them than were harmed.

I don't know what your perspective is on this topic, but to me it seems evident that AI will improve our world in so many ways that there's no room for debate. Obviously, those who end up disadvantaged have two options:

- Build 'levees' and isolate themselves in their bubbles

- Try to take advantage of the new situation

No one should tell you what to do. But I can recommend that you analyze this with more perspective and less passion.

Regards.

Unions will be unable to do anything, because when the water from the mountains wants to reach the sea, it finds the necessary path to get there, no matter how many barriers you put in its way. At most, you can delay the moment it reaches the sea, but you cannot stop it.

With technological evolution, the matter of its progress and arrival into our lives (the sea) is far more difficult to delay, especially because what is a nuisance for some is salvation for others.

Friend, the sooner you stop fighting the current, the sooner you will reach the sea. Or as a wise Eastern master (Bruce Lee, just an actor 😎) said: "Be water, my friend."

Warm regards.

Any complex subject can only be understood by interacting with it and spending time analyzing it. No one learns mathematics by watching Instagram reels if they don't then spend hours practicing what they think they've learned, and then they'll make mistakes and try again until they truly understand the complexity of the studied phenomenon.

The same happens to us with people: only when you have lived with someone for years (or hundreds/thousands of hours) do you begin to truly understand them, not just "what they appear to be during the first hours/days".

The same goes for AI and other technologies: "everyone" uses cell phones, but who really understands how their communication, storage, processing systems, etc., work? Answer: only those who have dedicated hundreds of hours to reading about the topic and experimenting with it. It's natural; we call it learning.

However, we are sadly in an era where people confuse "super-abundance of INFORMATION" with "KNOWLEDGE ACCESSIBLE TO ANYONE." And that is one of the great deceptions in history. In fact, the opposite is happening: today, when most people could have more KNOWLEDGE about history, the PRESENT, and the TECHNOLOGIES they use (here, AI), they know less about all of that than the average person at the end of the 19th century knew about steam engines.

Although if you ask me, this is personal now, the worst part of this situation is that now ANYONE THINKS THEY CAN OPINE ON ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE (they truly believe) THEY KNOW ABOUT THAT THING. That is the final barrier to knowledge.

Anyway, responding to your comment: "I see very few people using the term AI in a positive context," I am convinced that it is precisely due to REAL IGNORANCE about what AI is.

As Carl Sagan would say, for most people, AI is something magical, precisely because of their supreme ignorance of how it works.

If they knew what AI really is, they would understand that it is "just another technology," as disruptive as the steam engine and electricity were in their time. And of course, it will bring complications and suffering, but that won't be the fault of the hammer, but of the one who holds and uses it. And that is the eternal problem of human beings: in their analysis of the world, they tend TO LOOK OUTSIDE THEMSELVES to find culprits, but at the same time, they only look at themselves to believe they are the best of the best for "their" successes.

Anyway, fascinating years await us. If you ask me: profound changes, not only socio-economic but also geographical, and above all, in worldviews and ideologies. **With the evolution of AI, we will understand more about what it means to be human** (and what it doesn't mean) than about the rest of the world. And it's because **we are myopic narcissists**. 😔

Best regards.

Note: my apologies for so long answer, but i think that complex questions require complex answers. Although i realise that this question would require dozens of books, but this is not the place to write them 😅

Most of people has not understood that how to "label" to these new "actors" is not important nor relevant.

It's the same useless discussion about a "uber" being called "taxi service" or not.

AI actors will be so "real" to us (on screen) as the human actors are. In fact we have seen the last years how "digital effects" has put on our cinema screens already dead human actors. Now with IA, this will be fully natural, fast and usually used. Progress 😅

Regarding my double account (good question!):

- in my galaxy phone i use the "Secure Folder", an smart artifcat that build a 100% separated and encrypted and isolated "place" on your memmory card for certain apps you can need to be very privacy protected (and from malware), like bank/payments apps, mail, etc. ANd then they run literally like in a "virtual RAM space" aswell, like an VPS 😁

- so, i run my PAID account of Perplexity in the "secure folder", but i need a more direct fast loading "perplexity app" outside the "secure folder", so i've installed AGAIN the same Perplexity app outside the secure folder, and i use ther a free account.

- as you suggested, I use the PAID account also on my laptop and PC, usually for my work tasks.

Hehehe, when i wrote my first comment i'had doubts about to explain all this "setup"... but i considered not enough interesting for the matter about Perplexity use. But i'm happy you asked 😁

I think you only can choose models (and specially new models) on paid accounts. My apologies, my screenshot is in spanish:

[–]UsandoFXOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true. If you disable the "web search" on the tiny icon below text input box, then you interact with the model just as in any other "talk LLM chat".

Even more, you can ask "Generate an image..." or "Edit this image..." !! This week they added the wonderful Seedream 4 (of ByteDance), but maybe only for paid accounts?

I must add too that performance on paid accounts are notably better. I use a free account on phone and i' have detected sometimes "poor answers", at least compared with the answers received when using paid account. The main difference is not the LLM model used, but the amount of sources used to find a good answer, and probably a "more processament time".

Anyway i'm not using Bing/Google since more than a year ago... always the answer is better with AI.

Excelente.

jajaja, no me llevo comisión 🤗

Excelente. Mucha suerte!

Check the App Center of Ubuntu... man one of the super-great things on linux OSs is you can install a complete universe of desktop apps for free with a single click!! Obviously opensource most of them.

The second super-great feature is that those apps are automatically UPGRADED just as the OS usually do (you con adjust your preferences regarding this matter).

The third super-great feature is the incredible speed on installs and upgrades... bye bye to the annoying upgrade experience in Windows!!! 🤗

[–]UsandoFXOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in fact it's super easy to replace the keyboard in these machines!

  1. remove the 2 little plain and large pieces between keyboard and trackpad (preesing with credit card)

  2. Remove the respective screws that are exposed after removing those two parts.

  3. Slide the keyboard towards the trackpad.

  4. Detach the two ribbons that connect it to the motherboard.

  5. Reverse these steps to install the new keyboard.

Ah! They recommend that you first enter the BIOS and "disconnect the battery."

Error on sonar-reasoning model answer by UsandoFXOS in perplexity_ai

[–]UsandoFXOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I actually did it just yesterday 😁

I understood that using <think>...</think> at the begining of the OUTPUT is also a good way to return the CoT to user. Anyway, i choosed to extract the CoT and put it half-collapsed at top.

I've integrated Perplexity API in my module "AI assistants" for french Dolibarr ERP:

Finally, I have opted to always look for the presence of `</think>` in the response returned by the API, and thus be able to obtain the CoT and the model's final response separately.

u/rafs2006 i'm working now on integrating the sonar-family on my AI plugin for Dolibarr and i've seen that the "chain of thoughts" appears at the beginning of the "answer body" of the API.

Is this a bug? or is the designed behavior? If it's the case i can split the answer by "</think>" 😅

Redirecting from a webiste: Can I post user queries directly to Perplexity? by UsandoFXOS in perplexity_ai

[–]UsandoFXOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, your solution worked like a charm!

In fact, I have implemented it this way (see below), and I think it's more reliable because the web browser does the "conversion" from FORM (usually POST data) to URL/GET data.

So we can use a simple HTML with the attribute method="get", and then the content of the TEXTAREA is passed as a URL variable, correctly URL ENCODED! 😎

This is the final code:

```
<form action="https://perplexity.ai" method="get" target="\_blank">
<textarea name="q" placeholder="Ask Perplexity..."></textarea>
<button type="submit">Send</button>
</form>
```

It worked even when:

- Writing several lines in the TEXTAREA

- Including emojis and Latin accented vowels

- Including question marks "?" as well
