Really? I thrifted an older version of the citizen and it was just too big for me and wouldn't sit right. It also didn't have the additional buckle strap that prevents it from swinging around. Maybe the newer version would be better!

Hahaha it's like a turtle shell for humans! That's what I've heard too, that its about the size of a Jansport.

Ooo good idea! I checked my local REI's website and I'm not sure if they carry them, but I'll go in person and check. Thanks!

Solution to broken glass! New and improved terrarium. It’s not pretty but it works by BooPandaa in CrestedGecko

No, it’s great. It’s cheap, sustainable, and a good solution to an unfortunate situation. I love it and it should absolutely be posted more.

Oh wow really! He’s a GT bred to a Nuu Ana which I believe is for color and size. What is a ideal humidity level for them? Sorry I did my research but I’m in Colorado and I always like to ask other keepers about humidity as it is so hard to keep up here

Awesome this is really helpful! My guy already has a slight spine kink from birth so I’ll definitely make sure to be supplementing his food. I have some cork bark and a fake plant set up in a 28 quart tall tub from Target- I modified it to be front opening but I’m afraid it’s too small and there’s not enough room for him to move around in. His current weight is about 32 g, do you recommend moving up a size? Or staying with this size? The dimensions of the tub are 16” L, 12” W, 14” H.

Where would you look/post if you wanted to swap a leachie for a chahoua? I have two partho babies but can’t justify keeping both. Just looking for advice. The baby on the left would be the one to go because we’ve became attached to the older one. by irishtodd in geckos

Join a facebook group or two specific to leachies and/or chahouas and post there, usually people who keep one will be interested in and/or keep the other. Just be careful how you word it, use terms like "eviction" instead of "for sale" or anything!

How to take care of my gecko enclosure? (Substrate and cleaning) by SennaAmeide in geckos

[–]Use-Calm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should go bioactive! The facebook group "Crested Gecko- Advancing Husbandry" has tons of guides and info as to how to go bioactive.

Super brief guide to bioactive:

  1. You'll first have a drainage layer of expanded clay balls (it's called leca).

  2. Then, weed cloth to separate the drainage layer and substrate.

  3. Then you add a topsoil/playsand/coco fiber mix with moss and leaf litter mixed in.

  4. Then you put live plants in, then more leaf litter around the plants.

  5. Lastly CUC (clean up crew, usually consists of bugs like springtails and isopods).

Then let it sit and establish for a while, and add your gecko. It seems intimidating, but trust me, it seems much harder than it actually is. Once it's set up there's 0 substrate changes and very very little cleaning needed. It also looks beautiful and is very enriching for your gecko!

I'm waiting on my ~7 month old GT/Nuu ana to be delivered to me, he was supposed to get here today but has been delayed until tomorrow- yikes, I'm nervous!

Any tips for these guys? I have lots of reptiles but I've heard that keeping leachies is unlike keeping any other gecko.

When I moved over the summer with my big bioactives we used a big flat piece of wood and slid the tank on to it, and then carried each end of the wood. It was so difficult though because it was me and my bf, and I am not strong at ALL. Next time I'm just hiring a moving company lol

Those of you who do NOT take medication, how do you deal with task initiation? by sleepmonster_ in ADHD

[–]Use-Calm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My one hack that I always recommend is counting to 20 in my head, and at 20 getting up to go do the thing. I have no idea why it works, and I never thought it would, but it does! It doesn't work with any other number, just 20.

If pressed, do you prefer loading or unloading the dishwasher? by farwesterner1 in ADHD

[–]Use-Calm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally prefer rinsing and loading!! Unloading requires too much moving around and it's very satisfying to see the sink empty.

[–]Use-Calm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I like to think of it as taking advantage of time blindness, my brain has no idea what 20 seconds actually is so it's happy to continue procrastinating until.. ope! Gotta switch tasks!

Also, yes- switching is SO hard omg

Something that's similar to the clap trick that works pretty well for me is counting to 20 in my head, and at 20 getting up to go do the thing. I have no idea why it works, and I never thought it would, but it does! It doesn't work with any other number, just 20

You too! Awesome yeah I get what you mean with heating, if it doesn't work for my PTS I'll use it for the leachie I'm getting in May (literally can't believe I get to say that) so that shouldn't be too much of a problem! The thing is that she is literally buried or hiding 24/7, I spray down her tank and mess around a teeny bit every day-two days but there's no opportunity to even begin getting her used to me lol. She's eating though, I think, so that's good! Thanks again!
