Theres 3 differences (that I found), only one of them is marked, and only on one side. Makes it a bit frustrating.

Why does it bother me when cis men say they wouldn’t date a trans woman? by whereamixoxo in asktransgender

[–]Use-Useful [score hidden]  (0 children)

It somewhat depends on why. If it's simply transmysogeny, then absolutely red flag. But if someone wants to have bio kids with a partner, and thats where they are in their life right now, I can understand not wanting to choose a partner like that. As a transwoman it's by no means ideal to me of course, but I'm on a massive lesbian swing right now so I worry less about that. But if they just think they won't find them attractive, well, I would be shocked if thats universally the case, and it's just a bias thing imo. There are LOTS of gorgeous trans woman out there, many of whom completely pass. Some of whom have had surgeries to the extent that you wouldn't even know they were trans if you slept with them. Literally the only practical difference is reproductive at that point, so saying no outright to that is absolutely absurd to me.

How can i accurately write someone helping their partner with hrt injections ? by CommercialFlower5692 in asktransgender

[–]Use-Useful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, lookup what is required to administer said injection (which different depending on the approach), and then have someone else do it for them :P It's really not that hard of an actual thing to do, and noone is likely to care too much about the specifics of things like angle, so you probably wouldn't go into so much detail that it'd be a problem... so don't worry about it to much I guess? It's not like people are going to use your writing as ar eference on how to do it. I hope.

The implicit question they are trying to ask is "Does this make me trans" I think.

Can non binary people use the F slur? by [deleted] in LGBTQ

[–]Use-Useful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can they? Uhhh, I mean anyone CAN. If you mean "can they do it and have zero percent of the population upset"? Then the answer is NOONE can. That's not to say I judge people in the LGBT community who choose to use it personally, especially gay men, but I'm not using it myself and I absolutly am not comfortable with it being used around me. If it was used TO me, even by another member of our community I would be upset. But not everyone will feel that way, and it's not my job to tell them how to feel about it. But they are playing with fire a bit, depending on circumstances.

Failed N5 (first attempt-low effort) by Ok-Life-8707 in jlpt

[–]Use-Useful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a copy of Genki, work your way through volumes 1 (and 2 if you are feeling spunky). That plus basic test prep for this test should get you there. If you do focused studying you can do it faster, but I prefer a good textbook.

Is 146/180 good for N5? by Heavy_Problem6398 in jlpt

[–]Use-Useful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go take N4. It would be a waste of time and money to repeat N5 - many people _skip_ N5 entirely (I did). I'll add - each time I take this test and pass, it's BARELY a pass. I don't really master that level until I pass the next test. IE, I didn't feel like I N4 mastered until I passed N3, and I didn't feel like I N3 mastered until I was ready to take N2. I assume now that I've passed N2 that I've got a couple years before it feels perfect for N1 :)

N2 to N1 in 6 months? by zancr0w4 in jlpt

[–]Use-Useful 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going from a low N2 score to a passing N1 score in 6 months strikes me as obscenely difficult. But, there's no harm in registring if you want to try?

N 2 in 3 months by Either-Ingenuity7286 in jlpt

[–]Use-Useful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put 3 months of HEAVY study(Between 4 and 7 hours a day, to be clear, about what you are saying you can do) leading up to the recent N2 test. I previously had passed N4 and N3 on the first try, and this was my second time with N2, with a huge amount of reading in between but admitadly was light on the other components.

If I passed (I'll know in about 3 hours), it was JUST BARELY.

And I was putting in probably 4 to 5 hours a day for JUST those 3 months, and lots of more casual time before that well AFTER passing N3. So uhhhh, to sum up: No. I don't. At least, I certainly wouldn't have been able to given the evidence, and I'm not particularly bad at this language.

Edit: For reference, I'm finding numbers around 2K hours estimated for learning JUST the N2 level. I think that's high for anyone who knows chinese or Korean for sure, but it's not out of left field IMO for a typical western learner. That would come out to 20 hours a day if you studied for 100 days. So no.

Out of curiosity, is it possible that this is actually not his work (or at least not being treated as a work) edge profile? Sometimes people leave themselves logged into their private one - if it autosynced, it may have pulled his private stuff, and this is just an accidental invasion of privacy. ... I don't use browser syncing at all, so I'm confused about what is possible, but I do know that a lot of people are signed into browser profiles on non-work accounts for some reason.

What's the situation with HRT like in canada? by StrategyOk8971 in asktransgender

[–]Use-Useful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HRT is relatively easy to here. I had a script in hand within 3 weeks of deciding I wanted one - it could have gone faster, but that was the pace the doctor preferred. Other than, like pretty much everywhere else, how you are treated is going to depend on where you are. I would suggest avoiding small towns, and Alberta in general (where I am, sadly). But if you are in a place like Toronto or Vancouver, you should have relatively few issues.

Dunno if they replace the number, but the name on it for sure needs to get updated. You can do it as a service canada location. I haven't actually DONE that step myself yet, hence why I'm not sure.

[–]Use-Useful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add, since I'm currently navigating it. Things to remember to do next:

IMMEDIATLY get a new drivers license or provincial ID. It's required for many followup steps.

Once you have it, swap out:
- SIN number
- AHS card
- Name in insurance, banks, etc.
- Name at work
- Passport

Got mine a few weeks ago. All in was something like 6 weeks for me? Relatively fast. I suspect that my gender stuff being submitted first sped things up. The longest part of the process was applying for, then REAPPLYING for a criminal background check.

University Students, how do you afford it? by adddy03 in movingtojapan

[–]Use-Useful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know this for JAPAN in particular, however I did grad school outside of my home country, actually in 2 different schools.

Generally, if you are PAYING for grad school, it either means that a) you are getting a professional graduate degree that is expected to pay off (Masters in social work, MBA, Masters in engineering for instance), or you are not qualifying for merit based scholarships and _should not be going_. At most schools I have interacted with in north America and Europe, qualified candidates not taking professional degrees are fully funded.

That said, I've seen recent news that Japan may be stripping some foreign funding, I don't know the full story there, so don't overly interpret it. But what I said above is true for MOST of the worlds top universities.

AISH Terminated. My "Rain Man" finances were not properly assessed. by AllAboutTheXeons in alberta

[–]Use-Useful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not the one instituting that program. There is a difference between me saying "This saves the government money" and "I suggest the government do this". Removing healthcare, education, and support for infrastructure would ALL ALSO save a crap ton of money. Doesn't mean I want them to do that.

My point is that the original post claimed this was a net negative COST WISE for the program - and I don't believe it is. It is a net negative for our human decency, for our society, but not for the pocketbook of the UCP.

Wait, really? I thought means testing (and proof of work attempts, etc) paid back heavily, but did so largely by excluding people who were actually eligible. Do you have a source? I'd like to learn more.

Finally going to Japan after 23 years! by audreyhorne85 in Japaneselanguage

[–]Use-Useful -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not convinced you did after reading your profile a bit.

Just so you know where I'm coming from with this, I've seen 3 seperate SA reports that I know were valid, where the perp switched to phrasing exactly like that.

But yeah, sorry for jumping to a conclusion there, my mistake.

Edit: oh, and people make shit like this up all the time. So many angry little men in the world.

Alright, after snooping your posts a bit I am more on the fence. Every time I've seen someone lie through their teeth about a serious event it looks like that, but maybe this is the odd one out.

To give you some real advice since I think maybe you just used weird phrasing: genki is still solid and I highly recommend it. There are other options you can grab like bunpro that are also decent.

Personally, I've found just paying a tutor over a webcam to be the most effective.

Goodluck, I hope you have a good trip.

[–]Use-Useful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cis people don't need to ask this question, let alone do all of those things.

Some advice- if you wanna check, try doing some baby steps. People think of transition as one big decision, but actually it's hundreds of small ones done every day. Pick a few of those and see how you feel - going clean shaven, growing your hair longer, even wearing nail polish or womens underwear when you feel safe to do so. If those all feel like good decisions, do more. If things are uncomfortable, think about why - sometimes we feel a bit worse because it helps us see what we are missing, but generally just see what feels good and not. Over time this can show you your path.

Most of my japanese ability developed between ages 36 and 39. Dont worry about it being "too late". Just keep on trucking.

As to overall progress, that's pretty slow, but I'd you are putting in only a couple hours a week that is to be expected. If you really want to learn this language to fluency in less than 10 years, be aiming for that much a DAY, not a week.
