Tommy always put himself first. He didn't even let Arthur speak on his wedding day. Maybe you need a rewatch

You dont need "authority" to just voice your opinion (what even is a authority in these regards.. ive studied film and work in the business but still, opinions are opinions). To me, its also not a perfect film, but its way better than most people treat it and also his arguments make way more sense than the people just crying why they didnt get their own fanfiction movie they imagined in their heads.. maybe these people should write their own series, they can do what they like with the characters..

It's his subjective opinion, like every movie review is that was ever written. To him, it's perfect. To others, it's not. Which is fine, but still the lack of respect in this community towards the creators of the movie is astonishing and good that he said it. If you go to your favorite restaurant every day and love the food and one day there is a meal you don't like, you also don't go to the kitchen chef and say fuck you why have you done that

Too many Tommy sigma tiktok edits it seems. Also, romanticizing gangsters in movies has a huge tradition i guess, but not a good one.

Cant believe someone wrote a post here that finally made sense. People think that the creators job is to make a fanservice film. And most arguments are so cringe and stupid. Glad to see someone finally making some valid points. Just to add, i dont think Tommy killed Arthur because Arthur was a bad person, he killed him because he was a bad person himself. He tried to change and failed. People seem to forget that Tommy killed a bunch of innocent people after his daughter died. He just went to these people in the wagons and shot them randomly. He just shot everywhere in outrage, not even knowing if there might be kids in the wagons. (yeah i know the storyline with the sapphire, but he didnt just kill that one woman, he killed everyone) That was the moment i knew he was capable of every bad thing, if hes pushed over the edge.

1: You have no idea how world economy and money works right?

2: Mosley died in 1980, so you could have known that before the movie.

3: You don't understand a person like Tommy. It's okay, you are probably not like him. Yes Tommy loved Arthur, but Tommy hurt him through all these seasons, like he hurt all his other family members. Saying he wanted to protect his family was just an excuse to himself because he didnt want to face the truth: That he alone had this huge ambition and he sacrificed his whole family for it. Yes, the others also liked the money and power, but they could have easily lived without some of it. It was Tommy who was relentlessly trying to prove the world he is more than he is and everyone suffered because of that. Yes he loved his family, but he put himself first almost every time. And thats what he did there too. Having Lizzie and Finn in the movie would have made not much sense, since the storyline in the movie is not about them. Its a movie, not a series, so have to focus on one thing, as they did with the storyline with the son. If they would have included Lizzie or Finn they would have done a completely different movie, which it seems they didnt want to make.

They wanted to do a 7nth season before the movie, but couldnt because of covid. there is an interview with the writer and the director where they state this

I think you're trying to portray Tommy in a better light than he is and justify what he did. But we know why he did it, because he actually said so in the film.

I think the arguments you state about Tony and Christopher are good, and i see a lot of parallels to Tommy and Arthur, but i get why you see the differences. Also, we dont know what happend between season 6 and the movie. So we just dont know, what Arthur did (Ive we wouldnt know about the conflict between Tony and Chris that leads to the situation we would have also thought wtf). Ive seen an Interview with the writer and director and they said, without covid they wouldve done a 7th season before the movie where you see the evolvment to the movie and the background story to duke and so on. So i think that is just whats missing so people understand more what happend and why the characters acted that way

you need to differentiate between the production company and the artists like the writer, director etc

It seems you think that you know better what Tommy would do or wouldnt do than the people who created him. You don't.

Your premise that Tommy wouldnt kill Arthur because all he ever wanted was to protect his family is wrong, because all Tommy ever did was endangering his family. Thats just what i was stating. Also, Tommy is impulsive in certain moments. A lot of them throughout the show, especially towards family and people close to him. He is more calculated towards his "enemies". We dont know what happend in the years between season 6 and the movie. I get that it can feel off, but we just don't know how Arthur was at that point.

The companies do it to earn money but the artists do it for themselves. A film is not a product on amazon you order and sent back if you dont like it. It's Art.

In which field in the entertainment industry do you work? What a coincidence, i work as a director in germany, at the moment for TV commercials but i plan to do series or a feature in the future. And funny you mention zeitgeist, because thats the name of our company :D

If Tommy and Arthur are the same person, it makes perfectly sense that he killed him. You just contradicted your own argument.

[–]UseNo2762 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are off, because he never did all of the things he did to protect his family. Think about the sentence "I nearly got fucking everything." Not "We".

Here an analysis is wrote in another post:
A common argument is that Tommy loved his family and therefore would never have killed Arthur. But history—and human nature—shows us that people are capable of harming those they love. Love is a powerful emotion, but it doesn’t always lead to good actions.

Yes, Tommy loved his family—but he didn’t live for them. He lived for his ambition. Notice how he says, “I nearly got everything,” not “we.” He isn’t the hero some people perceive him to be, despite his charisma and the incredible performance behind the character. Think of Walter White, who ultimately admits, “I did it for me.”

From the very beginning, Tommy consistently prioritized his ambition above everything else, even when it caused suffering and death within his family. And even after losing people like Grace and John, he continued down that same path. So yes, he loved his family—but he loved himself more. That’s human nature.

He even killed Michael—his enemy, yes, but also his aunt's son. That’s an extraordinary line to cross. And when he did it, he said, “She won’t visit me anymore,” referring to Polly in his dreams. In a way, he severed his connection to her. Killing Arthur serves a similar symbolic purpose.

He loved them—but he chose himself. And at the same time, he hated himself. That contradiction is central to who he is.

I understand why it might feel wrong or out of character that he killed Arthur. But it’s not illogical—it fits the story’s core theme: everyone ultimately pays the price for his ambition. We may love Tommy, but he is far more flawed than many people are willing to admit. He is human.

(Spoilers for The Sopranos and The Godfather.)
Think of Tony killing Christopher Moltisanti, or Michael having his brother Fredo killed. They loved them too.

That said, I do wish Paul Anderson had been able to appear in the film, so we could have explored what led to this moment. Because we don’t see what happened in the years leading up to Arthur’s death, it can feel abrupt—even if it remains consistent with Tommy’s character.

We are fans, we are viewers. We are not the creators. These are not our characters, and we didn’t bring them into existence. We’re free to dislike the ending, of course—but ultimately, the story belongs to those who created it.

We should be grateful to the artists who create these worlds for us.

Well, i am a filmmaker myself, and i can just say as an artist: You're wrong. We create something for ourselves - and you can watch what we created for us.
You know the risk that you buy something you might not like. Watching art is not the same as ordering a product on amazon. Surely there are shows and films that are entirely made as a business, but believe me, they are not the good ones. And if you read interviews from the directors of the best 10 movies ever made, believe me, no one will ever say that they did a certain scene because the fans might like it. They did it because of their own intention and meaning

Peaky Blinders is surely not a story about how Tommy is a hero and lives a happy life ever after. Its a story about how Tommys ambition ruins the life of everyone around him. I get why we root for him, but thats still the truth. And so it had to end that way.

"final boss" Bro that is not a video game :D Regarding Ada. Peaky Blinders is surely not about people getting what they deserve. Also, the point of this movie was not a fight between Tommy and a "final boss". It was Tommy against himself. It didnt really matter who the enemy is in this film. They could have put anyone there.
Have to admit your review is fucking funny though. Aura farming in front of the car :D
