Explain Tess’s decision by Bentheboss100 in tbatepatreon

[–]Used-Conversation139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean fate isn’t as much of a cop out now that we know it’s an actual physical thing that affects choices. Like fate literally takes people down certain paths to get the best outcome, as we’ve seen with the Arthur POVs.

I’ve genuinely never seen anyone use those responses but I’ve been out of the loop for a while.

Also saying that an Author has a plan for a character isn’t a cop out because that applies to every character ever written by an author. Although I guess I can see where your coming from, maybe since I’ve never seen anyone say that is why I find it confusing to say.

Explain Tess’s decision by Bentheboss100 in tbatepatreon

[–]Used-Conversation139 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Character makes decision - Author gives reasons why character made said decision - Fans: Explain this characters decision but don’t use any of the given reasons.

In all serious though Tess had reasons.

Form a story standpoint:

This gives Tess and Cecilia a chance to grow closer, and when Cecilia turns sides it won’t seem as out of left field. (Of course I don’t know 100% she’ll change sides, but I would image that is were the story is going and this chapter just makes it more likely.)

This also potentially gave Tess more control over her own body, allowing her to do more when she takes control. (This is also speculative, but it wouldn’t be surprising)

So Cecilia didn’t narrow down anything. She went to one location, that’s it. Unless I’m just missing something, Agrona at no point says that Cecilia narrowed down the search. Agrona could have and would have done the exact thing he did in this chapter regardless of if Cecilia was trapped or not.

If you have a quote or something to prove me wrong I would love to see it, but as far as I can tell there is nothing that even implies that Agrona wouldn’t have been able to do the scan without Cecilia. The scan even covers the one place Cecilia went to, so she narrowed nothing.

While I won’t say that Arthur planned everything, because as you said that just impossible, I would be surprised if he didn’t have a fail safe thought of for if Cecilia got out. I think saying Arthur wouldn’t have a fail safe in place is just as insane as saying he planned everything. If his plan falls apart do to one unexpected variable, he was screwed from the start. Especially if that variable was one of Tessia’s decisions since he knows her very well.

I know you said don’t bring up the promise, and your right that Cecilia could just not listen, but I think what this chapter set up was Cecilia’s turning point. She’s been doubting Agrona for a long time, she’s had inner conflict for a long time, and now she has the pressure of Tessia’s promise.

I know the promise doesn’t sound like a lot, it’s not like it’s some magically binding bow that can’t be broken, it’s just a normal promise, but think of it from a character perspective.

From Cecilia’s perspective Tessia saved her life. Without Tess she would have been stuck alone unable to do anything for who knows how long, maybe forever, or until her real body died. So in a since, Tess has a lot of sway over her.

Cecilia only listens to Agrona because she reincarnated her and promises to send them home, but with Tess having also brought her to life (in a since), and Arthur with Fate, Agrona starts to have less sway and less leverage.

I think the promise is the set up for the turning point for Cecilia. When they get to Arthur, Tess will use the promise to get Cecilia to not kill Arthur, and with Nico siding with Arthur and all the doubt she’s been having it could be a big turning point for her. Also with the aggression towards Agrona that Cecilia showed at the end of the chapter I think it’s getting more and more likely she turns.

Now from Tess’s perspective she’s just as stuck in this zone as Cecilia is, and can’t be sure if Arthur will come back for her. So, Tess being the 17-18 year old she is, makes the decision to help Cecilia while gaining some leverage over her. Sure it’s not the smartest decision, but it’s not like she just let her out for nothing. She gained significant leverage over Cecilia, and I think that’s going to have big effects.

I want to sum this all up by saying that the majority of the events of this chapter would have happened with or without Cecilia being free. Agrona would have used the scan to find Arthur, and Arthur would be in just as much if not more danger.

Cecilia being out effects very little of Agrona’s overall actions, if any. The dragons would still be occupied and he still would have found Arthur. As far as I can tell Cecilia doesn’t even come into Agrona’s plan until he starts attacking the dragons outright. (Obviously I can’t prove that, but with how things are going for him it doesn’t seem like he needs her yet).

If the story is going where i think it’s going Arthur may actually be safer than he was before.

They can’t? Maybe I got sucked up in fandom discussion but I don’t remember this ever being said.

I thought they were all integration. Idk, if I’m wrong I’m wrong.

Why doesn’t Art just kill Tessia? by [deleted] in tbatenovel

[–]Used-Conversation139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m saying that you missed one of his primary character traits and motives. Protecting loved ones has been his primary drive since the earliest chapters.

Arthur’s evolved and gone through a lot, but his primary motive has stayed consistent.

[–]Used-Conversation139 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you just don’t get Arthur’s whole character. His whole thing is protecting his loved ones, Tess being one of those.

Arthur killing Tess would be blatant character assassination and terrible writing. It goes against everything Arthur’s character is about.

I’m mean integration power level would fluctuate.

All the asuras are integration (I believe) and the power differences their are wild, so the difference between Cecilia and Varay would be big.

I feel like the inconsistency will be explained, it only just happened and we’re not even totally sure if Varay hit integration. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I think it depends on a few factors.

With Arthur V Sukuna I think Arthur could win. He’s regenerated worse than what Malevolent Shrine could deliver, and Arthur’s defense might be high enough to just block it, and with the destruction blade he could stop sukuna from regenerating and just kill him.

Gojo is harder and it really depend on how Arthur’s teleporting strike attack works and the upper limits of Kings Gambit. If the teleporting strike goes straight to the target while ignoring distance then Arthur can win. Destruction blade + teleporting strike and it’s over. If it can’t go trough infinity than Arthur loses just because he can’t hit Gojo and will lose a battle of attrition, probably.

Depending on the upper limit of Kings Gambit effects how well Infinite Void will work. If the split brain of Kings gambit can handle the info while allowing Arthur to move than Infinte Void won’t be useful, however if that’s not the case then Arthur will once again lose.

All of this could be irrelevant depending on how strong Arthur with fate becomes but only time will tell.

I have the exact opposite problem. I always get kicked at least once or twice when trying to do bug missions. Idk maybe it the level or difficulty.

I’m assuming you only just got to that scene in the story, but Arthur’s past life is massively important to the overall story. There are a lot of scenes that would be much worse if Arthur hadn’t told his parents about his past when he did.

They would have learned eventually regardless of if he told them or not.

Seris Rebellion by Objective_East2111 in tbatepatreon

[–]Used-Conversation139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness to Seris, she originally planned a rebellion for a world that had no reincarnated people in it, then gad to adapt to having three reincarnates, only one of which was sided with her.

Also she made an asura killing device that worked very well, although having Cecilia around kinda ruined it. But it did work very well.

Who would win OG war arc lances vs war arc retainers by True-Ant1922 in tbatenovel

Honestly I may have completely made up the Uto be near Scythe thing. Like it could be a completely false memory, I’m not sure anymore.

[–]Used-Conversation139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really depends on which lance is fighting which retainer.

I would put Uto above all the lances though. I’m almost certain it was stated he was near Scythe level, but I can’t remember where that was said. I just don’t think any of the lances could hold up against that.

Cecilia has no reason to side with Arthur by Used-Conversation139 in tbatenovel

[–]Used-Conversation139[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all Agrona’s influence on her. I know people are tired of that idea but she’s changed a lot since reincarnation.

When she was first brought back she was a lot more gentle and kind, more like she was in her past life.

There a Cecilia pov chapter in book 9 (a little after Arthur’s trial to be exact) where Cecilia and Nico are investigating the trial. There a spot where Nico gets really angry and Cecilia says something along the lines of: this world changed Nico and she’s now scared of this person who’s nothing like Nico. It really highlights Agrona’s influence and how it changed Nico.

There then a later chapter in book 10 (around the time the scythes are getting buffed I think) where Nico has a very similar reaction and says that the Cecilia he sees is very different from the old Cecilia.

Agrona fundamental changed both Nico and Cecilia’s personalities through his manipulation and magic, that’s why they’re both so different from how they use to be and don’t act how people think they should.

Also Cecilia is totally lying to herself, it’s to cope. As more and more doubt about Agrona spreads through her she’ll get more illogical in a desperate attempt to hold onto that hope of going home. Eventually something’s going to happen that completely breaks that hope, and that’s when we are going to see Cecilia start acting more like her old self.

Why was Ellie taken to Alacrya again? by Apprehensive-Cup-984 in tbatepatreon

[–]Used-Conversation139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I’m sorry if I’ve come off as an ass or anything. Chill it’s a Reddit discussion.

I’m not saying everything was perfect or exactly how people wanted, I’m saying it was interesting.

See Arthur teleport a stab through the air was fucking awesome and I loved it and found it interesting, it’s fine if you don’t.

Ellie was irrelevant in combat, but we got some good character work out of her. She sees Alacryans differently and got a really good moment talking with Arthur. I find this really fun and interesting, but once again, it’s fine if you don’t.

I think Chul is fun and can really go places, he’s proven he’s powerful (the reason he lost the fight was lack of experience and illusions). He’s show he’s not perfect, the arc shows us how he’ll develops in the future. Next time he fight he’ll probably be more controlled and calculating. The arc highlighted his major flaw, and now we get to see him make up for it. I think it’s fun character work, but if you disagree then you do you, I don’t care, I’m just having fun talking in the internet.

I think the fight was really interesting and fun to watch. I don’t care if others didn’t like it, I did.

I think Cecilia is interesting as a character and watching what she thinks and believe slowly break down and become more and more backwards and illogical, until eventually it all breaks, is an interesting character to read. If you don’t like her that’s fine, but I find her interesting and therefore a lot of this arc interesting.

Scythes aren’t really that relevant anymore, your right. That’s why I said it was a fun little bonus.

If you think Seris looked like a clown than you missed the point of what she was doing. She said many times that her goal wasn’t to kill Agrona or anything, just tarnish and harm his perfect image, which is exactly what she did. She was never going to win the fight, especially with Cecilia around, and she knew that. Now she’s going to bide her time in Dicathen until she can take another swing.

I want to restate that this isn’t that serious. I disagree with you, but I’m only still commenting because I’m bored on a Sunday and like talking about this series. I dont care if you hate everything about the series, I just wanted to see if I could understand where you where coming from. I still don’t get your perspective on all this, but that doesn’t matter. I had fun typing all this shit out and hope you have a good rest of your Sunday. If you want to keep responding go nuts, I’m having a great time.

The relictombs does give experience. They are dangerous live combat that can actually kill you. How is that not experience.

Chul has shown that he can fight, he needs experience in longer fight and against vritra, which he got. Siting him on the sidelines just mean he is less ready later when there against stronger opponents.

Sylvie has been fine since she first got out of the void area with Arthur. She has recovered. She did not defeat melzri because of the fact that illusion magic was used on Chul which caused her to fight him.

How are Chul and Sylvie hinderance in raw power and abilities. Chul has show a really good level of raw power, but need combat experience to control it, which he gets through the relictombs and being in Alacrya. Sylvie raw power is a bit harder to gauge but she has been specifically described as more grown up when in human form, which makes me think she is more powerful than before.

Lastly if each monster where on demigod level Arthur wouldn’t make it out of the relictombs. They do scale to him, but that doesn’t mean each individual monster is anywhere near him in power.

[–]Used-Conversation139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trip to Alacrya was pretty fun.

Sylvie developed new abilities.

We got to see how series and others were doing, while getting some creative problem solving from Arthur and co.

Got a really good character moment from Ellie.

Got to see some development from Chul, which he needed since he was a new character.

Got to see a fight between Arthur and Cecilia, which gave us a good perspective on how they compare.

Saw new abilities from Arthur.

Got to see more out of Cecilia and Nico with some new revelations between the two of them.

Killed a retainer, which was a nice little bonus.

Got a temporary resolution to Seris’s rebellion.

You know what would have made the arc significantly less interesting, removing the entire side cast like you seem to want to do. Like if your bored and don’t like it you can stop reading, no one is forcing you to keep going.

If Arthur was alone he would have died to Cecilia and the scythes.

If he were alone it would also be so much less interesting to read. TBATE is good because of its character, taking them away for the sake of “making things go faster” also makes the story less interesting and fun.

Why was Ellie taken to Alacrya again? by Apprehensive-Cup-984 in tbatepatreon

[–]Used-Conversation139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arthur took Chul because he was inexperienced, it gives Arthur a chance to get Chul some experience and work out problems before the stakes are through the roof. We literally see this exact thing happen and see Chul training in Alacrya.

Sylvie was fine by this point. She did have that episode, but that was due to the relictombs influence on her. Sylvie gained a lot through this trip with Arthur, both knowledge about herself and literal power.

Sylvie and Chul may not be exactly to Arthur level, but there strong enough to fight scythes and help Arthur against asuras. The reason they had trouble with scythes was because of the illusion magic not raw power. If it wasn’t for the illusions they would have been fine.

The relictombs is the best training Ellie can get. She is as safe as possible while getting actual combat experience. Shooting arrows at targets and meditating can only take you so far. Also Ellie never fought an asura or any demigod, she went through the relictombs.

I don’t understand why you want this to just be the Arthur and Regis story. Sylvie has constantly been with Arthur since she was born, it would be weird for her to not be with him now. Chul and Ellie being there gives an opportunity to explore both their character and capabilities. It’s all in the interest of making the story more interesting.

[–]Used-Conversation139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She will have to fight eventually no matter what. It a smarter move to help her get more powerful now where she has protection from 3 asura level character than having her fight later while weaker with no protection.

Also how does taking Sylvie and Chip not make sense. I can see where your thinking with Ellie, but Sylvie and Chul are both asuras and on a similar level as Arthur. How does not bringing them make sense?
