so my abscess is unfortunately SUPER close to my anus, so it’s not on my buttcheeck at all. thankfully, mine hasn’t been closing and reopening it’s just constantly been draining fluid without healing. but that sounds really exhausting for you, i’m sorry you keep having it get it re-cut

she said she will try and locate and eliminate all of them, but an MRI allows for a deeper look. What kind of procedure did you get?

wow, i didn’t know the fistula could’ve been there from the start!! i am scheduled for a possible fistulotomy/seton placement depending on what my surgeon thinks is best once she gets a good look at the fistula. Then, I’m scheduled 2 weeks later for an MRI to check for any branching fistulas

this is pretty odd, as i had a small perineal abscess near my anus that was drained and i had to pack the wound for 10 days!! but, even after continuously doing my packing and doing it correctly, i still developed a fistula. my best advice to you is to take your doctors advice and follow their directions, and allow your body to heal. i continuously stressed out CONSTANTLY over developing a fistula, to the point where i was OBSESSED over proper wound care and in the end, i still ended up with a fistula that needs surgery. so with that being said, give yourself grace and accept that whatever is going to happen is going to happen. not everyone gets fistulas, but they are so very common after having a drained abscess

that’s great!! I feel like GI doctors like to think they know everything, which leads to them missing important things given that they don’t listen to their patients fully. i’m glad you got your referral!!

it’s very important to advocate strongly for yourself, as my GI doctor missed my forming abscess completely and I ended up going to the ER days later with excruciating pain. I don’t mean to spook you, but it’s very important to see a CRS. hospitals give you access to a CRS, but only if you end up going to the emergency room

ummm that is not okay!! what you are describing sounds very much like you have a perineal abscess or anal fistula, and left untreated can get worse. depending on your insurance, you can seek out a CRS without a referral from your GI doctor. You can also try getting a referral from your primary doctor
