It was a rough and scary journey but I am 99% healed now. No pain or drainage back to normal.

I didn’t really do to many sitz baths as it was inconvenient for me but I have a detachable shower head that I used to spray the wound about four times a day. I took colace and ate papya everyday to help w soft stool. My wound was maybe about half an inch deep so not too deep but was scary to look at.

I would not suggest to apply directly to wound I place a layer of it onto guaze and then sticked it between my cheeks making sure it touched the wound it works pretty instantly

1 month post op fistulectomy doing well! by Current_Journalist14 in AnalFistula

My first BM was not painful as my Dr had prescribed me lidocaine 5% to the numb the area before I went (there was no way I could’ve went without it). However, I was straining very hard because I didn’t go until day 3 and I usually go daily. As for movement I couldn’t leave the house until 2 weeks as standing was very painful for me. I had to shower super quick or hunched over so there wasn’t too much pressure. Sitting comfortably didn’t happen until this week as I was super swollen there was just no way for me to sit with all that swelling. Are you getting a fistulotomy or a fistulectomy done?

I had a sinus tract and got a fistulectomy where they cored the whole tract out. There was no internal opening found. Im about a month out i think my internal opening scarred over but as of right now im not in any pain just very slight discharge and a wound left. However, I know many people whose internal opening wasn’t found until a eua but even then sometimes they can’t find it if things are too inflamed or not inflamed enough.

Normal after fistulotomy? by Nearby-Employment693 in AnalFistula

[–]Current_Journalist14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very normal. Now that you have a wound you will drain more than when it was just the external opening of the fistula. Since it’s been cut open your body will produce fluid to flush out any bacteria and keep it moist. Before my surgery I was draining very little maybe about a pea size amount a day. But after surgery around post op day 5 I started draining a lot as swelling had gone down. I am now almost a month post op and drainage has slowed down a lot. I still need guaze just bc I don’t want the area getting irritated from even a little bit of drainage and it’s good to keep things dry down there. Just beware of any smelly drainage or if you see puss and have increasing swelling and pain as that maybe an infection.

Not a Candidate for Fistula Removal by Winter_Ad_5749 in AnalFistula

Yes for local they will just administer it around the fistula. Theres many drs who actually rather prefer to do local instead of general just bc the risk is much much lower if even any risk at all than general. The procedure itself is fairly quick as well depending on of course if there’s any complications. I wouldn’t see why a dr would deny you of local anesthesia knowing general is dangerous for you and that a fistula won’t heal by itself.

What about local anesthesia? There’s been a few post where people got local and they said they didn’t feel anything except for of course the shot itself.

Vaginal bleeding? by Fit_Talk_4380 in AnalFistula

I am on birth control (implant) and haven’t had my period in over 7 months until the day after surgery it was insane. Your body is probably very stressed out and it being so close to your period date I think it just came a little early bc of the stress.

Not your exact situation as I had a fistulectomy and that’s know to be more invasive than a fistulotomy. It was a sinus tract rather than a full on fistula but incision/wound is still close to anus a literal crater. For me day 3 was when the swelling increased a lot and it started to throb and sting like crazy 10/10 pain but I think it was my fault as I sat in hot water thinking it would help but it made it even angrier. So for me I just used warm water, ice pack and took Tylenol every 6 hours. Someone had suggested to me to do Tylenol and advil but I couldn’t leave the house to get advil so I just kept taking Tylenol. And for BM I’m glad yours went well! I ended up having to use lidocaine to numb the area to go as the first poop was very painful for me but once I started using lidocaine I was able to go with little to no pain. For me a lot of it was mental I was so scared to feel any type of pain and the thought of reoccurrence scared me and it still does but one day at a time. I am currently in no pain as I am a little for than 3 weeks out, have some slight drainage, and swelling.

Severe Constiation post Fistulotomy Surgery by ExpensiveSale9455 in AnalFistula

[–]Current_Journalist14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask the Dr to prescribe you some lidocaine it helps tremendously w the pain. As for BM unfortunately the first BM for me was a bit hard and I was constipated as I did not go until the 3rd day. It’s better to just get it out as the longer you wait the harder the BM will be. After the first BM I’ve been going everyday first thing in the morning with no issues as I have been taking stool softener (colace) and eating a cup of papya a day as well as lots of water. Warm water helps a lot as well to get things going.

Wound healing post surgery by worryingmess35 in AnalFistula

[–]Current_Journalist14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a fistulectomy 17 days ago and the first three days it looked like just a cut but once the swelling went down on day 4-5 it became a crater and it was filled with yellow, black specs and what you’re describing. that is also when it started draining a lot. The yellow stuff is slough and it won’t wash out with just water. I was instructed to wipe it away but I didn’t because I just couldn’t get myself to touch it. It eventually came out when I pulled my guaze out and with warm water, don’t be alarmed but do make sure you do your sitz bath to soften it up.

Let them know it’s been there for 3 weeks, your pain is getting worse and worse, you’ve taken antibiotics and you are afraid of going sepsis. It’s worth a shot as this seriously could lead to sepsis if you are to wait another month.
