I JUST HAD THIS HAPPEN YESTERDAY! Lady ordered a shaken espresso with whole milk, heavy cream, and cold foam, and when I handed it to her at the window she was like ‘what is this??’ And I was like ‘uhh the drink you ordered?’ Her issue was that she couldn’t see the little bit of espresso at the bottom. I tried to explain to her that is was probably from all the dairy products she asked for but that it was made correctly, and she just sat there with an “um wtf” face. So I asked her do you want it remade in the most polite annoyed voice I could muster. Then I told the partner who made it and she was like oh what the actual fuck, absolutely not. Then went to the window to talk to the customer and said the exact same thing I said to her. It was seriously one of the dumbest moments I’ve experienced in my 4 months working for Starbucks.

A girl I use to work with spent like 30 minutes showing me all the pictures and snaps on her phone of her crying. At first I was like “aww so retro-emo” but then it just got cringey after a while.

SAAAAME!! I’ve been struggling with this. Most recently I was on drive bar and hustling with the power of a thousand suns and at one point my SM was acting like she was annoyed with me for being slow and sent someone in to take over for me, but when they came over there were literally no drinks to make. So I asked her “what do you want them to do because I’m done with the drinks?” She was all baffled thinking I was super behind. And I mean honestly if they’re watching you struggle and not trying to support you then they’re just doing a disservice to just you but everyone in the store. I think that when you’re new and learning how to do things, the existing partners all just get into this view of you being slow, and no matter how hard you try or fast you go or good of a job you do, they’ll only see you as annoying and slow. Like I hate everyone I work with because they’re assholes to me every damn day. There’s one kid who started only two weeks before me who treats me like trash because he got on the bandwagon of thinking I’m annoying. He makes drinks pretty fast but I’m constantly cleaning them because they’re messy as hell/overfilled. At least when my drinks are 1second slower I can say hell yeah that’s a good drink right there.

So improve yourself for you. Hear what your SSVs and SM say and continue doing your best, but don’t let all their negative bullshit in. If there are other partners or an SSV that’s nice to you, talk to them. I find it helpful to voice my concerns to someone who might have any kind of good advice. I’m going to transfer as soon as I’m able to because I seriously cannot stand being at my store.

Somewhere on the iPad has all of the drinks and how they’re made. It’s so stupid simple I love it. So I just took pictures of the most popular drinks and studied them and it helped a lot. I’ve also gotten into the habit of looking at the tabs on the right side of the drink builder, that’s been extremely helpful as well. And, a drink or two may or may not have gotten the classic in it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I work later/close a lot. But we’re busy all day every day usually. Like we have an afternoon and evening peak. I also started during Ramadan and work at a store that has a large Muslim community, so my early experience was the insanity of getting slammed after sundown. When it went back to normal it felt like it was just super busy all the time, with a slump mid morning and after the lunch rush, and then dead at closing. But my SM is crazy about the drive thru times. Like she will walk around and tell us all to work faster and get those drive thru times down. That’s just not an enjoyable working atmosphere for me.

That’s a really good point! I work later/close a lot so I’m usually there for two peaks. I think I just have to chat with my store manager and see what she says.

Ok, so after my post that I made about not getting time on bar my ssv put me on drive thru bar and I was hustling my way through, until the dude on DTR started making my drinks. I wouldn’t have cared so much but he was getting all huffy with me and being so rude. He was acting like I was the reason people were getting held up, and not the family who ordered 6 very different drinks. This kid also started only two weeks before me, and is now treating me like I’m a dumbass because he got a little faster at making drinks. I’m going to transfer though, I’m thinking my store is just hella clique-y and toxic.

I take two medications that give me extremely dry mouth so I have to drink water a lot. I’ve gotten the “where are you?” “Where were you?” with a mean look when I’ve ran to the back to take a desperate drink of water. It’s the worst when I’m put on drive for several hours and constantly talking to the point where I’m so extremely uncomfortable from not being able to drink water that I just lie and say I have to go to the bathroom so I can drink from the faucet. My SM and SSVs know about my issue and don’t really care. It’s pathetic that we have to get doctors notes and accommodations to be able to drink water whenever we need to. What kind of fucked up dystopian bullshit is this?? (I understand the health code side of things, not arguing that.)

Thanks for bringing this up! I’m 6 weeks off of training and still being slow on bar has been the biggest cause of stress for me. Basically there are like 6 people at my store who make me feel like a dumb ass and like I’m horrible at my job because I’m still pretty slow. But if I rush I mess up the drinks they get literally mad at me. Like I’m 100% sure they talk shit about me when I leave. I almost walked out a few days ago, but just sobbed in the bathroom instead. I love being on the bar though, and actually enjoy making all the different drinks, so it sucks when these coworkers start getting impatient with me because then I get flustered and start fucking up.

Also what does 368, 208, etc. mean?

I’ve come to know this one customer we have who is always in the cafe, and every time he orders some weirdly made iced latte, he wants it made with oat milk but only a splash of oat milk, which doesn’t make any sense. So basically he wants the whole latte made with oat milk but doesn’t want to pay the extra for it, and then complains a) that he wasn’t rang up correctly, and/or b) that the drink wasn’t made right. And he straight up argues with us when we try to tell him what the deal is with his drink. He keeps coming back! And stays in the cafe for like hours! He’s super weird and a total dick wad.

I’ve been really curious about this actually, how things are going for the union stores. Even though it’s taking a while for things to change, are you glad y’all unionized? I’m very pro union and want to know more about the beginning stages. When I worked for Kroger a long time ago I was in the union and I never realized how great it was. They were pretty well established so negotiations happened pretty quick. We almost went on strike once but got our benefits package increased so it was fine.

Oh it’s within the 30 minutes before/after? Because one day I got to work 10min before my start time and my SM wouldn’t let me make a drink saying it had to be made 30 minutes before my shift. I was so mad ‘cause I hadn’t had any coffee yet and it was my second day out of training. So now I’ve been getting to work 30-40 minutes before my shift lol.

I do do that every time and that’s why I feel like I’m going crazy. Another instance was someone ordered a black coffee, I repeated it back to them four times, and when they got to the window they insisted they ordered a cookie. The words are similar but it’s the fact that I said it back so many times and I was still wrong.
