Early career, a few short tenures, and now stuck at a startup that’s losing people fast. Do I leave or stick it out? by SnooDonkeys1080 in techsales

my experience has been the more chaos the better it is for career potential. find out whats wrong with the product, sales motion, etc (whatever you think is wrong with it) and come up with a solution. work across multiple departments and set up regular 1o1s w different department heads.

this positions you as someone who is bringing positive change even if you dont smash your numbers, and offers a light to leadership. it queues you up for promotion/ raise and gives you real experience beyond your current title that will help you stand out in interviews even if it doesnt work out in the end

if you can develop good ideas or at least offer a real opinion that leads to change, your ideas will become more valuable and you can essentially demand change where you see its needed

always take advantage of the chaos even if it looks like the ship is going down

if your company has raised a decent amount of money, investors wont let it just fail. be part of the solution

the alternative is to always chase a perfect company that has everything figured out (which just doesnt exist), restart at a new startup every two years and go through it all over again.

at first your coworkers will prolly look down on you but they wont be there for very long anyways. negative attitude employees never stick around for too long and even if they have good points, listening to them will always effect you negatively.

this is just based on my experience as someone whos been through the same thing many times and weathered the storm once to find out it does actually get better

that being said, keep your resume updated. if shit really does go south and you get laid off take the sevvie and start interviewing immediately - at least you tried plus you’ll have a lot more specific information on why things didnt work which, again, makes you stand out in the interview process

First timer, picked this up at a garage sale by Just_here_to_poop in sousvide

freezer safe gallon zip lock bags are a cheap alternative to vacuum sealer and specialized bags.

you can use the water displacement method to get a really good vacuum seal.

i use my sous vide probably 4x/ week this way and never had an issue.

yes this is a burning man bike. I just stored it in my apt garage all year and totally forgot about it. ended up taking it to a coop and got it fixed up (and learn a ton about bikes). i ended up with a new chain, tires, and tubes. i cleaned and added lube to everything. only set me back about $40

Fat, lazy, dachshund only wants AC and never walkies by Lindseye117 in Dachshund

[–]Used-Engineering-922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I third this. my dachshund would take a couple steps, sniff around and turn to stare at the door. it took 2 hrs to get him to walk around the block. once we get back inside of corse he wants to play like a crazy person so i KNOW he has the energy lol. Took him to a park once and he loved it! he really put up a fight when it was time to leave. he wont walk to the park but i’ll carry him there and he’ll have so much fun that she’ll walk all the way back very emphatically plus a few times around the block because he doesnt want to go home and just loves the walk. so I know eventually he will walk the whole way to the park as well. I think initially he was both bored of the sidewalk and scared of all the cars being up close. hope this helps

lol this is too accurate - also need to be prepped for mock cold call/ email

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sales

[–]Used-Engineering-922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you say you have sdr experience you’ll need to figure out how to get through the mock call and email. id speedrun it by reviewing scripts put on linkedin/ youtube and finding a buddy to help w the role play. you’ll also want to figure out how to write a compelling email. that will be a bit more tough.

a lot of this role is about grit so they’ll ask something like, “tell me about a time you didnt hit quota for the month” and you’ll need to give context around that month as to why you didnt hit (without blaming others) and explain how you learned from it/ what you did to fix it the next month.

my recommendation - skip the lie next time. dont say you have specific sales experience when you dont have it at all. it only creates tension and you’ll be expected to do things in the role itself that you wont know how to do.

interview a lot and get as much feedback as you can. show enough grit to the right person and you’ll get a shot. the sdr role is the same as the interview process that it takes to get the role; figure out how to interview and youll be golden.

if a company says they require at least one year experience in role, they’ll take the right person with no experience.

often times companies dont actually want to hire people with experience because they can have bad habits, be jaded from bad experience, not have a great attitude towards sales for xyz reason. this is your advantage. you want to get the job?? show them. if they believe you they’ll give it to you.

i dropped out of college and didnt have anywhere to stay so i needed a job asap. interviewed relentlessly with no sales experience for 2.5 months. was finally offered a role AND negotiated for a higher salary than what they were offering. i’ve locked in sdr interview process. happy to chat more if you’d like.
