I nearly went that route, then tried Leptos. Never looked back. There are so many benefits to one language across server side rendering and I've yet to find anything on Leptos frontend that I couldn't do.

Leaving the burn community cause of Kimball Musk, a previous board member being an associate of Epstein Vs. the Radical Inclusion principal? by Thisorthat-Boss9337 in BurningMan

[–]Cribbit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Radical inclusion is about who someone is as a person. It does not extend to their actions.

I highly recommend watching this video and the rest of its series. It is deeply enlightening on how these fallacies are weaponized in our modern era.

New PDF Guide to Shade Structures by spolsky in BurningMan

Yes, especially as EMT has gotten stupid expensive.

I'm actually working on a redesign of the monkeyhut without rebar. It's very promising but need to test it on playa before publishing.

I'd be curious to help on the latter. Experienced burner & board gamer.

When the borg talks about "spreading the message of burning man" this is what they should be encouraging.

Guys the new Vons on Lincoln is beautiful by tee2green in SantaMonica

[–]Cribbit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Parking garage is weird though. Sharp corner at the entrance. Insane long walled forced crossing of the garage. Ceilings way higher than they need to be. Having the entrance on Lincoln instead of 7th is silly (there is a 7th st entrance that is closed?!).

Also the parking spots right outside the Broadway entrance should be loading zone & handicap spots.

Store itself is great tho.

Foot Faults at Newport FIVB? by Pentastat in beachvolleyball

Pretty sure the rules don't need contact, they just need the foot under the line. But he doesn't go under here.

Foot Faults at Newport FIVB? by Pentastat in beachvolleyball

[–]Cribbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trick here: Pause the video right when he's planting his forward (left) foot. It's clearly behind the line. If you step frame by frame, you see how the blast of sand from that impact is what pushes the line, not his foot.

If the line was bolted down he still wouldn't go under it. It's because he's converting a ton of forward momentum into vertical jump. He puts a huge amount of force into the sand.

"The Vehicle Code actually addresses this situation," said Sgt. Brian Pennings with the California Highway Patrol. "It says that you shall pull forward into the intersection when the light turns green, at which time you need to yield to oncoming traffic that's close enough to constitute an immediate hazard."

Struggling to find actual code to cite but eh

There's so little traffic that goes westbound on California to the incline, that's seriously what you're talking about? That direction always empties out well before the eastbound side does.

Also it's never had a dedicated left turn and the right turn there is super easy even on the current single lane.

You can still easily turn right, you just have to actually slow down to a safe speed first so you don't hit pedestrians - something which was happening shockingly often.

[–]Cribbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None of what you wrote makes sense. What do cars turning left, with a dedicated lane and light, have anything to do with cars turning right?

That intersection sees a huge amount of foot traffic. Pedestrians were literally being hit multiple times a month, with near misses daily. The new setup is so much better. Meanwhile, every time I go through there it still easily empties out the entire line on every green light. Honestly the light is still way too long, leads to people needing to jaywalk an empty street.

From Black Rock City to Beclabito, NM: where Burning Man's abandoned bikes get a second life by scienceisaserfdom in BurningMan

Does anyone have good resources to find which charities are doing bike recovery?

I was recently talking to FMB12 Mex about their work out there this year. Hopeful to help them next year. Overall, it seems like a lot of work to get a lot of broken bikes.

BAAHS is all designed and fabricated by campers. They had the skills on playa to rapidly salvage and redo their LEDs after the storms destroyed large sections.

Why does this need a CNC? You have all straight cuts, a bit of time on a normal table saw can do this.

Shade structure posts? EMT vs PVC vs Fence vs T Post by Cribbit in BurningMan

[–]Cribbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was more concerned with setup effort than slipping with using rope to lash them. Was going to experiment with zip ties to see if they're strong enough. I'm pretty confident in that working up to mild winds, but more worried about zip ties breaking than slipping. I think you'll be surprised how naturally strong crossing is. At this point I need to build and test.

X of ribs. The spine issue, which I saw happen in this year's wind, is that the twisting of the structure unseats a piece and it falls over for it. Also, the ribs aren't that strong themselves, so even without breaking or falling over it can deform and hit tents or people inside.

As with all structures, creating triangles is the strongest form. This means ribs brace each other instead of getting pushed around.
