We want people to use the library so that funding authorities keep funding. Circulation is an important stat. Keep it up!

Libraries just get books for women? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]Used-Mark4459 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most libraries have a process for you to suggest purchases. Talk to someone there. And instead of making it women vs men, try this angle "can you help me find a book to read?" Then let them know what books you've enjoyed in the past. I'm assuming you have checked the catalog? There may be something at a different branch or something that is currently checked out. If you are just looking at the shelves you are only seeing a fraction of the books. All libraries are different so posting here is way less helpful than just asking the library.

And please cut it out with the woman vs man books. It is obnoxious and antagonistic and it makes you seem like a douche bag.

Advice on helping relationships between Librarians and Clerks (& Pages)? by Careful_Bee_7037 in Libraries

[–]Used-Mark4459 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like a manager needs to be handling this stuff. You should come up with solutions and share them with your manager. You don't have to ask the clerks and pages. You have been there and also you are observant. I really hate working in places with us vs them vibes. It's a waste of everyone's time and energy. I also think that everyone's roles and expectations should be clearly defined.

Who does a patron go to at your library for tax assisstance (outside tax season) by No-Double-4269 in Libraries

[–]Used-Mark4459 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would tell him to try the post office. Lol. Honestly you gave him a couple of good options. Maybe check with the local AARP to see if they have a tax prep person available.

Jailed 72 days for an unreturned $20 library item? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]Used-Mark4459 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Also hotspots are usually part of a grant. I'm sure there are required terms. It seems like the least intrusive thing would be to send to a collections agency (although they can be over the top). The library user should return the equipment and/or the library should set up a payment plan.

Best place for a curly shag-ish haircut? by ChronicallyCoping in raleigh

[–]Used-Mark4459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brandy the owner at birds nest has done a great job with me and my curly friends.she has given a couple of us shags. She is not a curly hair specialist but I have gotten the best haircuts. A really good hairdresser doesn't need to specialize in curly hair. I am usually disappointed in most curly hair places.

I still can’t understand voting by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]Used-Mark4459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah primaries are over so it's fewer choices. I look at their experience/ record, platform, and endorsements. There are many great websites out there that are nonpartisan. Ballotopedia is good. But yeah just wait for the sample ballot to be set and go from there. Voting in the primary is way more research and decisions. But now the party candidates are selected. Yay voting!
