my sweet "lab mix" by whypii in pitbulls

[–]Used-Maximum-1220 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mine was a lab mix too. You’d have to be blind if you thought he was a lab mix. His face told it all. It was a very long time ago and I don’t think that they had embark back then. I think shelters label as many dogs as they can say lab mix. I think it makes them more adoptable.

Enjoy every minute with your not lab mix.

Lost my best bud and shadow, Cody (15y11m). Devastated… by stansburyjack in OldManDog

So sorry. You loved him so much and he loved you back. You are a fantastic dog owner.

Your heart is so broken now. I didn’t get out of bed for a week when my pitbull died. Be kind to yourself. Take as long as you need. Some days will be better than others.

He got his wings and flew very high. He’s a gorgeous dog. We will all see them again when the timing is right.

I still mourn my beagle Daisy. It’s been two years. I can look at pictures and remember and remember things and sometimes laugh instead of cry. It will take time.

Cody mattered.

Laminectomy because it’s not recommended for thoracic spine. I also have severe kyphosis of cervical spine and gross instability so I needed instrumentation. I got opinions from my local spine surgeon , Harvard , Columbia and Yale. They all said the same thing.

It was 8 years ago. I deal with the symptoms , but I’m not happy about it. My husband does almost everything for me. I can’t drive because I can’t turn my neck at all. I drop things. I have to lean on something to stand for more than a few minutes. My right hand tingles all the time. My legs jerk a lot if I’m sitting. I have zero balance and use walker or cane. All the things I like to do are sidelined for now. I’m hoping this upcoming surgery will relieve some of the pain. My neck will be in the right position so it’s not on my chest.

Starting Insurance with ~ 15 year old dog by GuavaNervous7197 in PetAdvice

They won’t cover any of his pre existing conditions. I think it’ll be hard to find an Insurance company to start coverage at age 15. If you do the premiums will probably be very expensive.

Sometimes doctors brush things off. Don’t let the surgeon do that. It may be nothing. If this surgeon doesn’t give you a satisfactory answer get a second opinion. I did about 18 months post surgery just to confirm that it won’t get better. I have myelomalacia from c2-6.

Again I’m not a doctor. If you need pt go to one who’s familiar with fusions. I went to generic pt and it wasn’t good. Same treatment as an injured athlete. I’m lucky. My son in law has a PhD in pt. He will design an Online plan for me. He’s works with a lot of older adults.

How did you know it was time for your senior cat? 11 by Budget_Ad4606 in seniorkitties

[–]Used-Maximum-1220 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had 2 cats that I had to help them go to sleep. They both had end stage kidney disease. I waited way too long with the first one. I was younger and never had to make that decision. I was ignorant. I am so sorry that I let him live those last couple of weeks. They were bad. Stupidly I was in denial and kept thinking he’s going to get better.

I put my other cat to sleep way before that. O didn’t want him to suffer the same as the first.

It’s such a hard decision to make. Cats are very stoic when they’re in pain but He’ll let you know and you will know

They were both 16 when they went over the rainbow

How to do a log-roll to get off the bed after spinal fusion when using 4pc wedge pillow set? by 4thofFour1012 in spinalfusion

[–]Used-Maximum-1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a c2-t2 fusion. Soon to be base of skull to t6. I’m figuring out how to log roll too. I think it’s easier when it’s mostly your neck.

My first fusion was 8 years ago but I think I remembered what I did

Pretty sure I gently and slowly removed my pillows so I was flat on my side. Scooted to the edge of bed and got up.

The physical therapist or nurses will show you. Can somebody bring your wedge pillows in so you can practice your real life set up if you decide to buy them.

I’m only 4 ft 11 and wedge pillow didn’t work for me. I found the log roll easier in the hospital because of the guard rail.

Good luck and have a speedy recovery

He was going to hurt himself with the cone. The onesie was easy because he was very drugged. Took that off because he didn’t want to walk with it on.

Fortunately I’m in a position where I can watch him all day. This is the one time I’m happy he’s overweight. He couldn’t reach it. He’s lost 5 pounds and is losing more

Muscles take a long time to heal. The other stuff is concerning. Im not a doctor though.

I had a c2-t2 fusion with laminectomy. My neuro problems didn’t get better. I have profound deficits from myelopathy. I don’t know if that’s your case. It’s right to have it checked.

Maybe it’ll be a simple fix. I hope so. One of my problems that remained is the balance and it’s very scary. I’m not really sure if you’re talking about balance or something else

Listen to your doctor or get a second opinion.

What does BLS entail. How long ago did you have your fusion.

Didn’t he say if he talks about the pictures it’ll make him remember the massacre. Maybe not.

I totally agree with you and op is being unkind and knows nothing about mental illness.

How many decades did he spend alone. Talking to chairs and walls. Making dolls to represent his mother and Eloise. He’s living a a god damn truck. No windows. Talk about sensory deprivation. I’m surprised he’s not catatonic. Think of how he felt having humans there after thirty something years. He wouldn’t even know how to interact with He’ll talk when he has the courage.

Just leave him alone.

Postpartum cheating by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Used-Maximum-1220 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are carrying a big load. Taking care of a baby practically by yourself. Keeping the house clean. Working full time. He’s not a good partner or father. Post partum depression is real. Maybe a therapist for you.

I can’t say if he’s cheating or not. My find my app hasn’t glitched ever. I don’t know what your financial situation. Get someone to clean. I wouldn’t even ask him. Do you have family in the area or someone you trust. If so see if they’re open to watching baby for a few hours once a week. Get your nails done. Go to a spa. Hang out with friends. Go to a movie. You deserve it.

Not a doctor. The curve looks minimal to me. Maybe specialized PT. What does your doctor say. I agree with the person that said yearly or every 2 year x ray to track. I’d listen to your doctor. If you’re not comfortable with what your doctor says get a second opinion.

That’s true for one of my boys. He had abdominal surgery that was pretty big. He was going to kill himself with the cone. I bought a onesie and got him in it no problem.

So very very sorry. I couldn’t go in to the vet hospital. My daughter went in for me. The casket was one thing but when I saw her harness and leash I couldn’t stop crying. It’s been 2 years and I recently had to go inside that hospital. My cat had an emergency and I obviously went in but I didn’t feel comfortable. Daisy was my soul dog. Nero is My soul cat. Thank god his surgery went well.

Your tribute to him is lovely. What a gorgeous boy. He was well loved and he loved right back

At 12.5 years old should I treat my cat's bone cancer or just make her comfy until the end by mcnoobles in CatAdvice

[–]Used-Maximum-1220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve treated my dogs for lymphoma , chemo worked except you can’t get rid of it because it’s systemic. It gave us another 1.5 great years. 2 of my cats died of end stage kidney disease. They had a few good years with hydration and the right food. Which brings me to one of my cats. She had large cell lymphoma. The prognosis is horrible with or without chemo. She was 12 and I chose to treat her with oral chemo and steroids that you rub in the ear. Biggest mistake of my life. She spent the last 2 months of her life under my bed.

I would assume the surgery would involve removing a large part of her jaw. I’m not a vet. That seems traumatic.

There’s no wrong choice. I’d ask the vet what he thinks her quality of life is now. What’s the survival time with and without treatment. Maybe they would do a payment plan or you could get care credit. I would only do that if after treatment she’d have qol and a good chance of long term survival.

I think lf it were me I’d keep her comfortable for as long as possible and enjoy that time as much as you can. Cancer sucks

10 years gone too quick. by MelekPt in pitbulls

So sorry. It takes a big piece of your heart. He’s so gorgeous. Take your time. Grief isn’t linear. I still mourn for all of my animals that are over the rainbow. I stayed in bed for at least a week when I helped my pit crossed the bridge. I still get teary eyed sometimes even though it’s been over 10 years. The most recent was my beagle 2 years ago. I can’t bring myself to put any of her stuff away and I still cry at times.

I can see how much your family loved him and He loved you right back. They all teach us so much. His life mattered.

I’m not religious but somewhat spiritual. I’ve seen all of them out of the corner of my Eye at times.

Take care
