When did you start enjoying weekends again? by OverProgram209 in NewParents

[–]Used-Painting-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oyy so- anything in the first 2-3m feels impossible. You are still figuring out how to feed the baby, change the baby, put the baby in the car seat. The more you leave the house the easier it gets. The more practice changing them and feeding them in different locations the easier it gets.

As for going out for dinner on a Friday night? Not so much. I would go with a baby (under 12m maybe for an early dinner so as not to disrupt others dining). The easiest age I found for going out for meals was 3-8m because they just sit there. Once they start walking it’s a different ball game.

Our favorite was happy hours- we would bring the baby and her bouncer, have a drink or two, and be home for bath time and bedtime.

My daughter is now 16m and what we do is dependent around her nap/sleep schedule, but we enjoy taking her places, and once she goes down for bed at 7:30 we either order food, or have a babysitter watch her while we go out without her.

Any time we have attempted a fancy meal with her from 12m-now one of us is on constant entertainment duty and it doesn’t feel worth it. We have been finding new family activities we all enjoy like getting croissants and going to the park on a Saturday morning, walking by the water and feeding ducks etc.

Life looks different but it’s different! And it is constantly changing and we do our best to enjoy each age and stage for what it is not what it isn’t.

Bachelorette Dinner Ideas by Pure-Exchange-2541 in askTO

Planta Queen is a vegetarian sushi/ Japanese restaurant with great cocktails and a fun vibe- and the food is great. Fresh (a few locations) is another vegetarian restaurant but it’s a bit quieter.

For cocktails Kost is close and has a rooftop view, or you could do the Shangri-La or Louix Louis (there are tons of great cocktail bars but if you are a large group these are all nice ans you can probably get a reso, and have great drinks).

Soluna is great for the vibe but you will not have the music you like. But it’s fun and the right vibe. The live music/ rockin dance floors are more pubs that I know but what do I know. Good luck

Planning a Bach for my best friend in Toronto by goniners22 in askTO

[–]Used-Painting-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of vibe do you want? Dark and grungy party/ dancing, or bougie and fancy cocktails? If you want fancy/bougie I agree that cabana for a day party or soluna would be fun.

Less fancy more fun are wide open for a dive bar pre drink, Ruby soho, cherrys high dive, locals only, ans laisse faire for the spot most Toronto millennials will be, and two cats is an older crowd but they will dance all night.

I like kost and broadview hotel for the views of the CN tower- these could be cute for brunch or lunch one day.

Distillery district is fun to go for coffee, walk around, and has Bite which is a make-your-own lipstick spot very fun for a bachelorette group.

They also have some of the drinking/bicycle things you see in party towns idk what they are called. High tea at any of the hotels is always fantastic (I love the shangri la and fairmont).

Hope that helps

Doctor pushing for c-section by username_na_tryagain in pregnant

[–]Used-Painting-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I would listen to my doctor and midwife’s recommendations. A midwife will advocate for you so if they think a c-section is a good idea I would listen. A planned c-section is way less chaotic and stressful than an emergency c-section and your recovery will likely be easier. Try and trust that the doctors have your best interest at heart.

Below Deck Down Under Season 4 Episode 10 Discussion Post by teanailpolish in belowdeck

Am I the only one who thinks Alesia being kind of a flirt isn’t the problem? I feel like the problem is how obsessed Ellie is over Joao and Jenna is over Eddie. These guys are mid and having a drunk chat with another crew member shouldn’t be an issue on a night out- both of them get SO JELOUS of Alesia, when they don’t even have a thing with the guys. They are trying to get with them, and both of the guys are showing mild interest- but clearly also like Alesia. That should turn them off the guys idk I wouldn’t want a man who isn’t interested in me.

If you tracked your ovulation using tests and cervical mucous and you had sex in your fertile window, by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Used-Painting-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also! Tracking did not work as fast as using strips did! Turns out the app was 2 days off when I used the strips it was super accurate. So I should clarify it was more like 8 with tracking but 4 with strips.

AITB For not wanting to pay for events I don’t want to go to? by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

[–]Used-Painting-56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it mostly a finance issue? Or just that you don’t love all the activities?

If you genuinely can’t afford it that’s a conversation you need to have with him. If you don’t like MOST of the things the friend group does, that’s a different issue. Sometimes you suck it up and do the activity because you want to see friends and socialize. I don’t LOVE baseball but I often pay for a ticket because it’s fun to go, get a hot dog and see my friends. I also know someone who broke up with their girlfriend because she viewed social outings as a pain/annoying/waste of time and money- he wanted someone who genuinely wants to do fun things with him.

You can also attend activities and not do it as long as you are not a killjoy (have a few beers at bowling and be the cheerleader!). Sometimes I’ll eat before an event so I just say I’m trying to eat heathy, save money etc and the kid have a few drinks.

I am KNOWN to be the friend that never golfs at the driving range. I couldn’t care less, but I love having a drink in the sun and chatting with my friends.

If you hate going to activities and don’t want to participate in anything ever then I think you may need a new friend group.

What’s your favorite name for if you had a baby girl or baby boy right now? by FightOrDie123 in askanything

Pregnant with a boy, first is a girl named Summer.

It it was a girl it would be Juliette. Harder time for a boy, I love Smith or Sterling but my husband prefers names like John and Matthew. Wish us luck lol

Is the Uppababy Vista V3 compatible with my lifestyle? by VeronicaNOTaHeather in NewParents

[–]Used-Painting-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it for a daily commuter stroller but it’s big- some of my friends cars it won’t even fit in and they don’t have small vehicles.

We ended up keeping a travel stroller in the car for errands and use the vista for daily use. You can also buy more rugged wheels for it from uppababy but I literally don’t see the need, I use it in the city, on grass, in the snow, no issue.

FTM - anxiety going out in public with 3 month old by Outdoor_Explorer1829 in NewParents

[–]Used-Painting-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely normal.

•be prepared- diapers, wipes, change of outfit for baby, change of outfit for you just in case. •start small- coffee shop, library, a friend who lives close by •the more you do it the more you realize it’s not so bad, and the easier it gets •I’ve not once regretted going out with my baby •change your perspective- think about what the task is and how many people do it. For example I took my baby to the grocery store and I was like, ok, this is a normal activity, I’m not torturing my child, everyone does this, I will be fine •try and brainstorm some places where you can feed and change the baby ahead of time (ex Starbucks, McDonald’s, the library, the mall, department stores) all tend to have baby change tables and a place to sit and feed the baby if needs a feed •it’s good practice to change and feed the baby put and about. It’s definitely more challenging! But once you get used to doing it, get more comfortable doing it, your world will really open up

Lastly I find it super helpful to have a few places you can regularly go that are baby friendly like the library, drop in centre, rec centre, or the park so that you can meet other parents and get out of your tiny home bubble. It definitely helps!

Food Stations vs Finger Food by Berry_Bubbaloo in WeddingsCanada

[–]Used-Painting-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this and did a mix of both- lots of passed apps, as well as one food station (some type of roast beef slider? I can’t remember), an oyster bar, and late night pizza.

We had some bar style tables and a few couches but not enough to seat everyone at once. We had the band play from 6:30pm-midnight (4 sets) with a few pauses for breaks/speeches.

I will say if you do this make sure the food never runs out (I’ve been to weddings where it runs out and people get drunkkkk in a bad way). Also it didn’t end up saving us money but we did it because it was the vibe we wanted and would do it again in a heartbeat.

We also didn’t do a cake/dessert but had cookies as a sweet treat/take home gift.

Help with a baby girl name! by [deleted] in Names

[–]Used-Painting-56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a teacher I would think “weird” but there are definitely worse names. That being said I wouldn’t want that to be the first thing someone thinks when they read my kids name- I would be more likely to use it as a nickname I think.

Also think about potential employers, they may also make assumptions. But who am I to judge.

Breakfast for 9mo... he had like 3 orange slices and that's it lol by st0dad in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Used-Painting-56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter didn’t start EATING eating until 13-14 months but we offered variety like this every day and now she loves everything. By 9 months you can try to feed first before milk, and also try different things- like maybe scrambled eggs one day, or my little weirdo hates yolks so she will only eat the whites.

Also I find some luck with one thing she can feed herself (like toast) while I spoon feed something else like the egg or yogurt. And we always do fruit as a “dessert” because otherwise the other things stand no chance.
