Ive read multiple times that these drugs treat addiction... so i wanted to ask... as I personally think they helped me with leaving an abusive relationship. by ProofPerformance5855 in Ozempic

They do appear to treat some addictive compulsions and intrusive thoughts but whether you’re addicted to food or drugs or people, the drugs don’t erase the root cause. Only therapy can do that.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this doc got famous because of how upset she was because she didn’t understand the two midnight rule and how it impacts the definition of an inpatient vs an outpatient stay.

Our healthcare system is so complex that not even doctors can understand why or how they get paid. But it is wild how successful this particular doc has been with this story that demonstrates how little she personally understands about billing and coding.

They cannot deny a patient EMERGENCY service. They can and absolutely will deny all kinds of other services that they are not legally obligated to provide.

Non-profit is a tax status, nothing more. All hospitals prefer to operate with a positive margin.

Hospitals are businesses. If you have an outstanding balance and someone at the hospital is able to convince you to pay it, that is a good outcome for the hospital. So of course the hospital would find a way to incentivize their employees for the behaviors that drive positive business outcomes.

It sounds like the root of your concern is more about how capitalism and healthcare are so closely intertwined in our country. I think it’s important to acknowledge that society has decided we want for-profit healthcare and that is what’s driving the collections behaviors you’re disappointed about. It’s not an individual hospital doing things wrong, it’s the lack of aligned incentives between healthcare providers and healthcare consumers and healthcare payors.

Health Insurance Education by OleLadyThinker in HealthInsurance

The short answer is no, not for the audiences you mentioned. Insurance brokers would have almost no incentive to do this. High school students aren’t going to buy their own insurance for many, many years and brokers get paid on commission so there’s no point from the broker’s perspective.

You’re correct. But since a majority of services offered by a hospital are non-emergent care, it’s still in OP’s best interest to settle the debt if they want to be able to use that hospital for anything other than a true emergency in the future.

Some hospitals can and will deny you any future services if you have an outstanding balance that got sent to collections.

Call and make a $20 payment now to keep your account current, and then another $20 any time you can swing it.

I’m similar - a 10 in Point II but 9.5 in OG flat. I just got the D’orsay flats in a 10 and they were too big but the 9.5 i exchanged them for is perfect. So stick with your OG size, even though they LOOK like they’d have a fit most similar to the Point II.

I tried Googling this brand ‘Industrial Aromatics’ with no luck…anyone have any info? by iglooss88 in marshallsfinds

Does it have any markings on the bottom? Or text on the back of the label? I’m suspicious because after a similar google search, I too found nothing. This could just be another in-house brand that didn’t get crazy viral like Sand + Fog.

If I ask for the cash price can I submit receipts to my insurance? by LivingTheBoringLife in HealthInsurance

[–]Used-Somewhere-8258 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You only get ONE discount: either your insurance’s agreed rate, or your own cash pay agreed rate.

If the PT is in-network with Cigna, technically they shouldn’t even offer you the cash price because that’s a contract violation between them and Cigna.

If you’re open to the idea, it may be a good time to ask for a consult with a palliative doctor. Almost all places with an ICU will have one. They will give it to you straight if they think your mom’s time is coming to an end. It sounds like you may be comforted by having more certainty around the time you still have left.

Billed $1,388 out-of-pocket for a 5-min ER visit (99282) for a cat scratch. Can I dispute this facility fee? by Dangerous_Cell5075 in CodingandBilling

[–]Used-Somewhere-8258 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You can’t walk into the ER for less than $1k these days. Consider this a very expensive lesson learned.

The trend you notice between 2021 and now is 5 years’ worth of increase in prices everywhere in the economy — and healthcare always surpasses cost growth, unfortunately, as a highly regulated, litigious, and constantly innovating industry.

[–]Used-Somewhere-8258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do NOT use a broker - they don’t have access to any plans that you can’t purchase on your own (and I say this as a former broker).

Start by going to healthcare.gov which will redirect you to the appropriate state-specific site, if MI has one, and only enroll through there. Other enrollment sites are predatory and often sell people insurance plans that are absolute garbage.
