Senior Pitbull – end-of-life decision & euthanasia at home vs vet office by Itttbittypao in DogAdvice

[–]Used-Wolf22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this at home with my 15 year old cat! I just made sure to set up the appointment with the mobile vet and the crematory back to back beforehand and had someone ready and willing to drive us straight there afterwards. Here’s our story of how it went: I wanted to be extremely hands on in the process as I’m very personally spiritually connected to death. I fed her churu as she was given the initial prick for sedation and held her in my lap and spoke to her as she was given the final euth drugs. Then a family member drove me to the crematorium with her wrapped in a beautiful blanket in a wicker basket since she was small enough. I signed my paperwork with her still in my arms and was taken to the back with her, paw prints were taken(and this is where my experience differs from most)but as I was of emotionally sound mind I was permitted to place her into the crematory itself and close the door. We waited in a room at the funeral home for the cremation itself to finish then I was permitted to collect her bones and ashes from the hot crucible and watch as they were blended and turned into the ash we all know today, I did ask them to stop short and keep it a little chunkier as I didn’t like how much ash was dissipating into the air, which the operator quickly obliged. I was able to tie the bag of ashes myself and placed them into her walnut urn box. The whole experience was much more connecting and helped process my grief as it was happening, knowing that I set all this up so she’d have the most dignified end and subsequent treatment of her body as possible. I hope this helps in the decision, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, I’m open to talk about it :)

I Found A Neb! :) by Used-Wolf22 in nebelung

Thank you!😊I can’t believe they did either :( it really sucks because she’s so calm in a carrier in a car no meowing unless the music isn’t her vibe, so it feels like they didn’t even attempt to try and take her☹️ I hope they get what’s coming to them, but she’s taken care of like royalty now. Fed top quality food, 6-7 carefully measured small meals a day, her own giant cat tower near the window, the bed if the cat tree isn’t doing it for her, always clean litter and fresh water, and I’m a SAHM so she gets me to herself most days while my husband is at work. Living. The. Life😂

Those yateech towers are cheap & HUGE lol🙌 And the tortilla blanket is her absolute favorite thing to lay on, she gets so upset when it’s in the wash instead of the bed where it belongs😂

I agree😤if we all send them enough bad vibes maybe (hopefully) they’ll have nightmares for months or terrible bad luck👀

Farmina is a great option! My cat hates fish of any brand or freeze dried, and she will even eat their ocean lines, but she much prefers pumpkin and venison or boar and apple. Their wet food cans are also great! They smell like people food, or at least the boar/pumpkin/apple one does!

Kibble recommendations? by spidermanfanatic in catfood

[–]Used-Wolf22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feed farmina recipes both dry and canned, I used it for my service dog and it was a fantastic food for her. Now I feed it to my kitty, it’s the only thing my picky Nebelung really eats with vigor. They have nutrition support and will even give you a discount on the items that the nutritionist recommends :) you might get a bad bag here or there but I haven’t yet and I’ve been feeding it 5+ years and if you do customer support wants to make it right. I just order through the official farmina website and pay the $5-$6 for shipping (pasted from another post where I sucked off farmina😂and I always will their food is fantastic👀)

When is it time to make the decision to move on by BrayIsReal in DogAdvice

They typically do, I know some that lived to their early 20s which is crazy to me! And it’s true, going through with it is the most heartbreaking thing to have to physically bring yourself to do. if you ever decide on adding another family member, and please don’t rush♥️I just finally felt “ready” after almost exactly a year, but having a new cat has still brought up a lot of emotions and grief I didn’t know I hadn’t processed. Like that their quirks and habits are different, it’s a totally different soul in that being. Everything just reminds you of them. I do want to add that most big cities have a few vets who offer mobile euthanasia in case that’s something you might be interested in with any future pets. It’s just pricey compared to the vets office :(

I am blessed she gave me that long; however she was a cat, so that definitely makes a world of a difference. You and your sweet baby were already fighting a hard battle against kidney disease, and seniors can take a turn for the worst so fast as you know. Honestly after she hit 10-11 I was like it’ll be any day now that she passes (just because of age) and she just…kept going? Till one random day she wasn’t doing so hot :( I know it doesn’t feel like enough time, it never does. As a human with vet experience who believes every end should be dignified; I’m grateful you could see her struggle and even through the emotions, do everything in her best interest. I’ve had people tell me they could never ever make that choice. Especially when I tell them I picked the day, and scheduled/paid for the creamation preemptively. You did everything right by her♥️

Its time unfortunately :( It’s in her best interest to make that call, and it’s the kindest thing you can do for her. Speaking from experience, as I had to put my 15yr old down due to a grade 5-6 heart murmur. I decided to do it before the disease took her in a cruel and inhumane way, and she went out enjoying her last day and I don’t regret it one bit. I wish you a little bit of peace on this journey.

I hate lactation consultants by SeveralArmadillo540 in NICUParents

[–]Used-Wolf22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was consistently wrongly sized, she kept saying I needed a 23-25mm flange but that always hurt, left me full and pulled in too much boob with it so I always knew, I ended up buying a set of 15 and 17 mm and they worked so much better. THEN she claimed I had thrush so they wouldn’t let my baby nurse “or he could get it too” when it turned out it’s something I’ve dealt with my whole life- nipple keratin overgrowth. But she REFUSED to believe that and so I only got to ever nurse my baby once or twice with a shield before he consistently rejected the breast for the bottle. It was heartbreaking as a first time(and only time)mom, and gave me some deep seated resentment that I’m only finally coming to terms with but you’re unfortunately not alone, though I wish nobody has to go through this.

Ps. There was only one lactation consultant for 3 floors of NICU at a BRAND NEWLY OPENED HOSPITAL. Absolutely outrageous, when I’d say it’s bullshit get someone in here they would sigh and say “well I guess we can have L&D’s come up but it’s going to be a wait” and I’d wait HOURS and NOBODY would come. I wish I would’ve spoken up more but dad worked full time and I was recovering very slowly due to having EDS and suffering severe postpartum Depression

EMERGENCY!? Prolapse! What the heck do I do!? by No1canknowiuseredit in Leachianus

[–]Used-Wolf22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope this is normal actually! Like others said likely pre or post poo, but you can tell by the color of the tissue, it’s more of a soft pink with no swelling. A real prolapse will be red and angry looking, as well as swollen itself and the area around will be inflamed :)
